Chapter 198: Reminder
The snow continued to fall until the morning of the next day before finally stopping. Niu Niu, dressed in a thick cotton jacket, stood at the door, excited.
Niu Niu and Pi Pi were eager to go out and play. Xu Ning cleared the snow at the entrance, allowing them to play there for a while before bringing them back inside.
The toddlers, who had just learned to walk, couldn’t stay still for a moment. They wandered from room to room, even making several trips to the kitchen.
Xu Ning was worried about them getting into trouble, so she followed them around the house. The three little ones weren’t tired at all, but she was exhausted.
Seeing that Niu Niu and Pi Pi still had plenty of energy, she placed them on the kang, closed the fence, and let them play inside.
Last time, when Xiao Mo saw her actions, he said it looked like she was keeping little piglets, and now that he thought about it, his description was quite fitting. Wasn’t it just like keeping piglets—three little piglets, to be exact?
The confined Niu Pi Tang protested a couple of times, but when Xu Ning didn’t pay them any attention, they began playing with their little toys.
Seeing that the three of them were no longer making noise, Xu Ning took out her textbooks and continued her studies.
She now seized every opportunity to read; she hardly touched her sewing and needlework anymore. The clothes and shoes for Niu Pi Tang, as well as for herself, Xiao An, and Xiao Mo, were all made by Mother Xu and Aunt Lu.
Her dad and mom also assigned a lot of exercises for her and Xiao An to do, and she organized these exercises to send to Xu Yang and Lu Xiaoran.
A copy was also sent to Ming Yu, but that kid didn’t appreciate it and even wrote a letter to Lu Xiaotang to complain about her.
She was so annoyed that she organized a few more copies to send to his wife. Now that kid didn’t dare to make a sound. Hmph, what a brat! I’ll deal with you.
When Yang Xiaomei and Wei Lanlan came over with their children, she was in the middle of scolding Pi Pi, who had once again peed on the kang.
Wei Lanlan said enviously, “You manage three kids by yourself, and there’s no bad smell in your house. Unlike us, we only have two kids, and I’m always washing, but there’s still a lingering odor.”
Xu Ning smiled and replied, “It’s all the same; you’re just used to the smell and can’t notice it anymore. Even my brother says there’s a strong urine smell as soon as he enters our house.”
Yang Xiaomei noticed the books on the kang table and asked, “Do you still have time to read?”
“It’s winter, and it’s snowing. We can’t go out to play, so it gets really boring at home. I just flip through them,” Xu Ning replied casually.
After thinking for a moment, she reminded them, “When you have some free time, review your middle and high school textbooks. At least that way, you won’t forget everything you’ve learned. Don’t you think?” She looked at the two of them seriously.
Seeing her earnest expression, the two were taken aback and couldn’t help but nod.
Xu Ning smiled, placing Xiao Pang and Xiao Ya on the kang as well, allowing the children to play together while the three adults sat below and chatted.
“In the blink of an eye, we’ve been in the countryside for six or seven years, and the kids have grown so much. I wonder if we’ll ever have the chance to return to the city in this lifetime?” Yang Xiaomei sighed.
Wei Lanlan replied, “Last year, when we went back to Chen Xiangdong’s house, his mom mentioned giving up her job so he could go back to take her place, and I could go back to the city with the kids as well.
His sister-in-law disagreed, and there was quite a commotion about it. This year, his mom hasn’t brought it up again. To be honest, life here is pretty good; it’s a bit tough, but at least we can eat our fill.”
Xu Ning agreed, saying, “As long as we’re living a stable life and the family is together, it doesn’t matter where we are. Even if we go back to work in the city, things might not go smoothly.”
“That’s true. There’s really nothing special in the city. Sun Hao’s family is still in Haishi, and their living conditions aren’t even better than here in the countryside.”
“The year we got married, we went back once and stayed at a guesthouse.
You wouldn’t believe it; there were seven or eight people in their family, but only two small rooms. They had to cook outside, which was quite inconvenient,” Yang Xiaomei recalled.
Thinking back to that trip home with Sun Hao, she felt it was better to stay in the countryside.
The three exchanged glances and smiled helplessly, realizing that every family has its own struggles!
While the three of them were chatting happily, the little ones on the bed weren’t as harmonious. Niu Niu and Xiao Pang started fighting over a toy.
Seeing that Pi Pi couldn’t win against Xiao Pang, he jumped in to help, and Tang Tang crawled over to join. Little Ya got scared and started to cry.
The adults, who were enjoying their conversation, realized this wasn’t acceptable. At such a young age, they already knew how to gang up and fight. They needed a good lesson!
However, the children weren’t paying any attention. After fighting, Niu Niu and Pi Pi sat there playing together, while the unambitious Xiao Pang cried a couple of times before joining them to play as well.
Tang Tang continued playing with her little cloth tiger, and after a moment of sobbing, Little Ya quieted down.
The three mothers who wanted to discipline them…
