Chapter 237: Lu Xiaotang Reading Romance Novels
Xu An and Xu Mo boarded the train with large and small bags, most of which were food.
There were snacks, milk powder, and canned goods prepared by Lu Xiaotang’s parents.
Additionally, Xu Ning’s parents had packed some local specialties from the capital.
Altogether, they filled three large bags, and there was another bag containing clothes for the two brothers.
Uncle Lu had the driver take them to the train, and the two brothers sighed as they looked at the four bags.
Xu An said, “We’ll take turns sleeping. During the day, you keep watch, and I’ll take over at night.”
“Second Brother, our parents and Uncle Lu and Aunt Lu really don’t think much about us, huh? All they care about is making sure their daughter and grandkids have more to eat. They didn’t even consider how we’re supposed to manage when we get off the train,” Xu Mo said, looking worriedly at the pile of stuff.
Xu An couldn’t help but chuckle. “Alright, stop complaining. At least you’re aware now. Keep an eye on things. I’ll sleep for a while, and we’ll switch later.”
Meanwhile, Lu Xiaotang and Xu Ning had just lulled the triplets to sleep, and the two of them were reading books from the space.
Lu Xiaotang was reading a romance novel about a rich second-generation heir and a Cinderella-type girl.
The wealthy heir’s family was in real estate, owning many properties in the capital. Just one of their homes would be something an ordinary person couldn’t afford even with a lifetime of hard work.
Xu Ning had borrowed the book from a college roommate, intending to return it after reading it.
But her roommate said the book wasn’t good and told her to just throw it away. Xu Ning found it rather interesting, so she didn’t toss it. Instead, she put it in the space and would flip through it when she had free time.
Just now, Lu Xiaotang had asked her to grab a book from the space for him to read, so she randomly handed him one.
As he read, Lu Xiaotang stroked his chin and laughed.
Could it be that dating forty years from now would be like this? He glanced at the book’s title again: The Overbearing CEO Falls in Love with Cinderella.
Seeing him laugh so heartily, Xu Ning felt puzzled. What was so funny about reading a book?
She was about to look away when she suddenly caught a glimpse of the book in his hand. Pausing, she looked back at his expression. He was grinning as he flipped through the pages.
Xu Ning couldn’t help but chuckle. The sight of a grown man engrossed in a romance novel like that—it was just too much for her eyes to handle.
Noticing her gaze, Lu Xiaotang smiled and said, “Wife, have you read this book? It’s pretty interesting. Could it be that people will date like this in the future?” After saying that, he laughed again.
After reading for a while, he stopped laughing and began to ponder.
Seeing him quiet down, Xu Ning smiled and asked, “What are you thinking about?”
Lu Xiaotang thought for a moment and said, “Wife, if what this book says is true, houses won’t be cheap in the future, especially in the bigger cities.”
He glanced at Niu Pi Tang, who was lying on the heated bed, and continued, “We’ve got three kids, plus Xiao Mo and Xiao An. When they get married, we’ll need to prepare houses for them. Looks like we’ll need to start planning early.”
Xu Ning was secretly pleased by his words. Since he had thought of it too, there wouldn’t be any need for her to make excuses when they bought a house in the future.
After thinking for a moment, she said, “If the college entrance exams are reinstated, we’ll take the test and return to the capital. If we find a suitable house by then, we can prepare it for the kids in advance.”
She then took out the money from the space and counted it. It included Lu Xiaotang’s salary from the past few years and his mission allowances.
There was also the money she had earned from selling bed sheets and military coats over the last couple of years. After counting, it was close to 20,000 yuan, along with the gold bars Grandma Wang had given her.
Xu Ning planned to use this money to make a trip down south after the college entrance exams were reinstated, to buy some electronics and resell them.
When Lu Xiaotang saw the stacks of cash she had taken out, he was quite surprised. “Xiao Ning, how do we have so much money?”
Thinking back to the supplies she kept in her space, he quickly understood. It must have been the money she earned from selling things over the years.
Xu Ning didn’t explain how the money came about, and instead asked him, “With the policies becoming more and more relaxed, how about we make a trip down south next year and bring back some things to sell?”
Lu Xiaotang glanced at her and said, “We’ll see next year. If the college entrance exams are reinstated, I’ll take some time off to go with you. We can first scout out the area.
I have a few comrades who are from down there. If we really want to bring back some goods, I can contact them and ask for their help in making introductions.”
Xu Ning was excited to hear him agree and even offer to ask his comrades for help.
Thinking about the electronics and clothing from the south made her feel like money was calling out to her.
Seeing her so happy, Lu Xiaotang pulled her into his embrace and said, “Wife, I think the wall slam written about in this book is quite interesting. How about we give it a try?”
As he spoke, he opened the cabinet and took out a cloth bag, pulling out four condoms and placing them on the pillow.
Xu Ning was speechless…
A wall slam is a wall slam, but why did he have to bring that out?
