Qin Mohuai hadn’t taken his medication for two days in a row, thinking he was emotionally stable. However, his mood was dark and unstable, almost making him choke with anger.
In her eyes, was he someone who could be casually blocked?
Would she casually block Liang Min?
Before he could call Xia Yuan, he received a call from Pei Jincheng first.
With his usual nonchalant tone, Pei Jincheng teased, “You’re lying in the hospital half-dead after taking a few punches? At the business conference last time, I observed Qin Jingye up close. His deep feelings aren’t going to last long; he’s all show and no substance, on the verge of being buried.”
“Hey, you’ve faced the boxing champion before, and you can’t beat him? Tsk, tsk, you must be wasting your energy with night-time escapades, leaving you drained by those little vixens. I think Xia Yuan might be a fox spirit in disguise. Believe me, no normal woman would fall for a control freak like you!”
The more he spoke, the more acidic his tone became.
Qin Mohuai’s voice was cold, as if submerged in a frigid pool, impatiently cutting him off, “Stop wasting time. Get over here and help me with something.”
“?” Pei Jincheng responded, “Didn’t you hear what I just said?”
Qin Mohuai hung up the phone.
He then called Qin Wu, his personal bodyguard, and asked with barely concealed anger, “What happened at home today? Why didn’t you inform me?”
Wu dared not make excuses and recounted everything honestly, “Miss Xia went back to the Xia family this afternoon. She didn’t want you to disclose her whereabouts, and we only just learned of it.”
Qin Mohuai snorted lightly, his eyes sharp as blades, “She told you not to say anything, so you didn’t. Who exactly is your master?”
Wu quickly explained, “If you didn’t listen to Miss Xia, she would complain to you, saying you take advances toward her.”
People in high positions often have a bit of paranoia, and Qin Mohuai, who harbored a deep grudge against Xia Yuan, was no exception. Whether Xia Yuan was lying or not, he was sure to suffer consequences.
Qin Mohuai’s brows furrowed in contemplation, a hint of amusement flashing in his eyes as his anger dissipated somewhat.
“Since she didn’t want me to speak, how did you find out?”
Wu replied, “It seems Miss Xia didn’t want to make things difficult for you, so she lifted the gag order.”
Qin Mohuai’s expression darkened again.
Wu thought, “You’re jealous of everything, aren’t you?”
Soon after, Pei Jincheng arrived at the hospital in his Lamborghini.
Wearing sunglasses and an expensive pink suit, he looked somewhat pretentious, like a fox that hadn’t mastered its craft.
Qin Mohuai, enduring the pain in his abdomen and fastening his shirt buttons, glanced at the dandy Pei Jincheng and said indifferently, “Drive me to pick up Xia Yuan.”
Pei Jincheng took off his sunglasses, his face showing irritation. “I’m not your chauffeur! You’re going to see your wife, not mine. Why did you call me here?”
Qin Mohuai replied, “I need someone to help me. Stop talking. You’re a car dealer—what else are you going to do?”
“Car dealer?” Pei Jincheng’s nose almost flared with anger.
Wait, Xia Yuan went back to her family. Qin Mohuai’s wife ran away?
Oh dear!
The living room light was still on as Liang Min and Xia Yi whispered to each other.
Suddenly, they heard a knock on the door. Peering through the peephole, they saw Qin Mohuai and a flashy man outside.
Liang Min hesitated for a few seconds before opening the door.
Even if Xia Yuan wasn’t with Qin Mohuai anymore, it wouldn’t do to offend him.
Powerful figures can crush them with a mere flick of their fingers; Liang Min had experienced that firsthand and still remembered the fear.
“Uncle and Aunt, good evening. Sorry to disturb you,” Qin Mohuai greeted politely and courteously.
Pei Jincheng, surprised, looked at Qin Mohuai. Was this really a case of the mighty being brought low by love?
The lofty prince charming had bent down in humility for love, becoming humble as dust.
“Hello, Uncle and Aunt. I’m Pei Jincheng, a friend of Qin Mohuai,” Pei Jincheng introduced himself.
Liang Min, feeling a bit awkward, invited them to sit, “Please, have a seat. Let’s talk.”
Xia Yi, standing by the sideboard, picked the cheapest barley tea and prepared it for them.
Pei Jincheng raised an eyebrow, “This tea has quite a unique flavor.”
Coming from an affluent background, Pei Jincheng was accustomed to the finest things and didn’t recognize the cheap barley tea.
Qin Mohuai glanced at the barley tea, remembering that last time he had been this.
He didn’t dwell on his own treatment. Before Liang Min could speak, Qin Mohuai handed them a stack of documents.
“What’s this?” Liang Min asked.
Qin Mohuai replied, “My psychological evaluation.”
Liang Min’s expression grew serious, “This is your personal information. We can’t just look at it. Please take it back.”
Seeing someone’s private matters only made things more complicated.
Pei Jincheng, with a half-smile, added, “Auntie, you might not know, but Mohuai lost his parents at a young age, and he’s deeply in need of love.”
Qin Mohuai took a sip of barley tea, his rebellious gaze softened under Pei Jincheng’s words, making him appear quite pitiful.
Pei Jincheng continued, “Because of his lack of love, anyone who gives him even a little affection will get his undying gratitude. I admit he doesn’t deserve Xia Yuan!”
At this point, Qin Mohuai lifted his eyes to look at him, thinking, “Is this guy asking for a beating?”
Pei Jincheng added, “But he will certainly strive to become a man worthy of Xia Yuan! You might want to review his case and decide whether you want your daughter to continue dating him.”
Liang Min was silent. Though she never mentioned breaking them up, Qin Mohuai had anticipated her thoughts and acted swiftly with a countermeasure.
Deep and calculating, Qin Mohuai was no match for Xia Yuan, who was completely dominated by him.
Meanwhile, Xia Yuan emerged from her room. The moment Qin Mohuai saw her, he instinctively stood up, his gaze fixated on her.
Xia Yuan didn’t want her parents to see Qin Mohuai’s psychological evaluation and returned it unopened.
This was Qin Mohuai’s most vulnerable side. If he ever decided to pursue the matter later, what chance would her parents have?
“You don’t need to use such tactics to win over my parents. This is our matter,” Xia Yuan said, her mood improved and her gaze softening as she took his hand in hers. “You should go back to rest. It’s late. We’ll talk tomorrow.”
The touch of her skin was soothing and electrifying, making Qin Mohuai feel like a spellbound demon, obediently following her.
Pei Jincheng watched with amusement, envious of the affectionate love rather than the situation where a woman had complete control over a man. He looked down on Qin Mohuai.
Outside, it was still raining. Xia Yuan’s custom-made nude pink leather shoes were as delicate as she was, ruined by the slightest water contact.
A few raindrops splashed onto her leg, making her frown as she stared at her leg until Qin Mohuai bent down, using his pristine shirt sleeve to wipe the rain from her calf.
Pei Jincheng clicked his tongue, thinking, “Is he being treated like a little lord here?”
In the dark night and rain, with the Lamborghini’s headlights illuminating the old, rundown neighborhood, Qin Mohuai, with his noble and gloomy demeanor, held Xia Yuan’s waist like a vampire king born of the night, clinging to the sweet human girl.
“Can I stay at your place tonight?”
