Chapter 46: Yuan Yuan Gets Jealous, You’ve Had a Concubine Selection?
Turns out, it was Ouyang Jing’s father, Ouyang Hongyi.
When Xia Yuan lived in the old apartment complex, she thought ten thousand yuan was a fortune, something she could hardly earn.
But that was all in the past.
As a top lyricist, Xia Yuan could easily make five million yuan by writing a few songs. And as Qin Mohuai’s girlfriend, she could have as many five million yuan as she wanted.
Ouyang Hongyi was clearly trying to humiliate her with his five million offer. If he really wanted her to leave Qin Mohuai, he should at least offer five billion.
Xia Yuan calmly said, “Five billion, and I might consider your request.”
With the Ouyang family’s financial standing, even pulling together a single billion was a stretch, let alone five.
Ouyang Hongyi’s face was full of shock. “Gold-digger! You’re asking for the moon! This is extortion!”
Xia Yuan lifted her elegant, beautiful chin. For the first time, she used Qin Mohuai’s influence to intimidate someone. She smiled coldly and said, “This dress was custom-made by a luxury studio he hired. It cost over a million for materials and labor. I’d have to be crazy to take your five million and leave Qin Mohuai. Go give that to a beggar instead!”
Ouyang Hongyi’s face turned livid with rage, but he didn’t expect her to be so sharp-tongued. She didn’t have a shred of guilt or insecurity for being the ‘other woman.’ Instead, she was smug and proud.
Xia Yuan turned to leave.
Ouyang Hongyi sneered, “Didn’t you know? Qin Mohuai once held a concubine selection banquet at Tianxi Club.”
“He only finds you interesting because you’re new. Once your looks fade, he’ll toss you aside and find someone else fresh! Businessmen, especially successful ones, never make a bad deal. The money he spends on you is just compensation for your youth.”
“As long as Old Master Qin doesn’t approve, Qin Mohuai will never marry you. And by the time you’re strung along and become an old maid, he won’t even bother spending five hundred on you, let alone five million. A man as cold-hearted as him wouldn’t even spare you that.”
Xia Yuan casually dug her finger into her ear, clearly indicating she thought his words were nonsense. “If you really want me gone, why don’t you just kidnap me, scar my face, or chop me up and dump me in the ocean? Wouldn’t that be more efficient?”
Ouyang Hongyi was dumbfounded. He never imagined this seemingly delicate girl could be so fierce.
“Qin Mohuai protects you like you’re the apple of his eye. Even Old Master Qin hasn’t dared touch you. How could I dare to kidnap you?”
Xia Yuan shrugged. “There you go. By the way, I’ll never become an old maid. At least in Qin Mohuai’s heart, I’ll always be fresh!”
Because she would die at the peak of her beauty, at the time when Qin Mohuai loved her most, becoming his untouchable, eternal white moonlight.
The dead never age.
But what was this about a concubine selection banquet?
Tianxi Club seemed legitimate on the surface, but that’s only because regular people didn’t have the power to make it otherwise. Someone like Qin Mohuai, from a prestigious family with a century-old history, could easily indulge in whatever debauchery he wanted at Tianxi, and the outside world would be none the wiser.
Xia Yuan could brush it off like it didn’t matter. After all, she didn’t love Qin Mohuai. Who cared if he was an old cucumber pretending to be fresh? Still, it irritated her, so she blocked Qin Mohuai on WeChat again.
Fairies don’t tolerate being tainted by dirty dogs. 🙂
Her mood was thoroughly ruined.
at Tianxi Club in the top floor
The entire floor was filled with luxurious private rooms, and about a dozen staff members were there to serve the wealthy young men inside.
Qin Mohuai sat in the center, his posture relaxed and lazy. His black suit gave him a professional, composed appearance, but his short, gray-blue hair hinted at his rebellious and unruly nature.
Pei Jingchen glanced over. “Not drinking?”
He noticed the Baccarat crystal bottle in front of Qin Mohuai was still untouched and teased, “Being a clean freak again? I knew you’d be coming, so I had them bring a fresh set of glassware. Go ahead and drink.”
Qin Mohuai replied, “She doesn’t like the smell of alcohol on me. She’s got a nose like a mink—if she catches even a whiff of alcohol, she won’t let me kiss her.”
Pei Jingchen: “…”
Damn you!
Who are you showing off to?
Just because you can talk about your love life all day!
Pei Jingchen’s sharp features, long brows, and fox-like eyes made him look both dashing and roguish. As jealousy flashed across his face, his usually charming expression turned cold.
“What are you guys talking about?” Zhou Xuan asked as he sat beside Qin Mohuai. He had just returned from studying abroad after learning that his father intended to make his pregnant mistress the official wife. Zhou came back to handle the situation himself.
He didn’t mind having another brother or sister, but that woman was too overbearing. Once she entered the Zhou family, who knew how much chaos she would cause?
Besides, if the person he liked found out his family had a history of infidelity, it would definitely hurt his chances of courting her.
Pei Jingchen, lounging as usual, asked, “You’ve been back for days and haven’t come out to hang with us. Family issues giving you trouble?”
Zhou Xuan replied, “Almost done handling it.”
Pei Jingchen quipped, “If you need help, just say the word. These days, shredders are so advanced they can crush a car in ten seconds, let alone a person.”
Zhou Xuan: “…”
“I often feel out of place because I’m not as twisted as you guys!”
“That’s too immoral.”
Pei Jingchen laughed. “I know, that’s why I’m suggesting it for you.”
Zhou Xuan: “…”
“Damn you!”
Pei Jingchen and Qin Mohuai were both vengeful types, but Mohuai was the quiet and ruthless kind—he usually didn’t bother with grudges, but when he did, he was cruel. Pei Jingchen, on the other hand, would flip off a barking dog from his car window, never backing down from even the smallest slight, though he rarely followed through with real action.
Zhou Xuan changed the topic and pulled out a box of Cuban cigars. “Mohauai’s favorite, want to try?”
Qin Mohuai declined, “You guys go ahead, I can’t smoke.”
Zhou Xuan asked, “Why not?”
Qin Mohuai answered, “If I smell like smoke, she won’t let me kiss her. I’d have to rinse my mouth a dozen times before I could kiss my little neat freak. Too much hassle.”
If it’s really such a hassle, why are you grinning while you say it?!
Zhou Xuan held the cigar in his hand, clicking his tongue. For a moment, he imagined a peacock fanning its feathers.
“So, is she the one? When’s the wedding?”
In families like theirs, the heirs held real power. If they truly liked someone, they would lock it down quickly. If a relationship dragged on for years, it was usually just for fun, ending with a hefty breakup fee.
Qin Mohuai said, “I’m planning it. I want to give her a surprise.”
As he spoke, he pulled out his phone to text Xia Yuan, asking if her dinner was over. A red exclamation mark appeared, signaling that he had been blocked again.
Qin Mohuai’s eyes darkened. He stood up, saying, “You guys carry on, I’ve got something to take care of.”
Zhou Xuan and Pei Jingchen exchanged glances, then quietly followed after him.
Qin Mohuai called Xia Yuan, demanding that she come out. If she didn’t stop her soft, delicate teasing within three seconds, he’d go in and drag her out himself.
……
Xia Yuan quickly left the private room, and before she could react, Qin Mohuai grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her into his arms. His voice simmered with irritation. “Blocked me again?”
“You seriously don’t know why? You hosted a concubine selection banquet at Tianxi Club. Did you ever stop to think about how I’d feel? Am I just some product for you to compare and choose?”
Her tear-filled, beautiful eyes caught sight of two men eavesdropping nearby, likely Qin Mohuai’s friends.
Despite her anger, she felt the need to give him some face in front of them.
With a pouty and stubborn air, she tiptoed and gave him a fierce kiss. Her fiery temper, mixed with her playful charm, was enough to make anyone’s heart race.
The eavesdropping duo: Wait, why is Qin Mohuai the one winning so hard here?
