Chapter 153 Who’s the evil person who harmed me?
Watching Gao Taohua’s figure disappear into the distance, Luo Qiao contemplated whether to teach her a lesson. She was annoyingly persistent in coming over to provoke people. But she didn’t want to cause any serious trouble. The Gao Shunyi’s family didn’t have any decent individuals.
So she retraced her steps back to the village entrance via the small path, crossed the river using the stones laid out there, and hurried ahead of Gao Taohua to the opposite side of the bridge. Finding a secluded spot to hide, she was fortunate that it was cloudy tonight, leaving no shadows on the ground.
Thinking of giving her a small punishment, but not wanting to do it near where she lived. If something went wrong, suspicions would certainly fall on her and Lu Yichen. Therefore, Luo Qiao deliberately crossed to the other side of the bridge. Whatever happened next would be Gao Taohua’s own affair.
After Gao Taohua walked down from the bridge about five or six meters, Luo Qiao threw out two small stones she had prepared in advance. She heard Gao Taohua exclaim “Ouch!” and then the sound of someone falling.
In pain, Gao Taohua forgot it was nighttime and shouted angrily, “Who’s the evil person who harmed me?”
Both sides of the bridge were paved with stones. With such a fall in the middle of summer, she was bound to scrape her skin. At least it would be quiet for the next few days. Luo Qiao had heard before that Li Xiulan had arranged a match for her daughter.
This Gao Taohua really couldn’t stay put. Did she genuinely like Lu Yichen, or did she dislike the match arranged by her mother? Was she playing with fire? She better not drag others into it.
If she got involved with Lu Yichen, she feared Li Xiulan would stick to her like glue. It seemed she should remind Lu Yichen to avoid any misunderstandings and prevent becoming a laughingstock.
No matter what, eating together with Lu Yichen now meant they were on the same side. Gao Taohua really wasn’t worthy of him.
However, she couldn’t deny that Gao Taohua had good judgment. Li Xiulan’s second and third sons were incredibly lazy, but her only daughter worked diligently every day and was quite capable.
Returning home, Luo Qiao counted the money in her hand, totaling over 600 yuan. She wondered if it would be enough to buy a small house in Ji city. Thinking it over, she realized she needed to settle herself first before planning for the future.
This transaction is still not free. In another year or two, she’ll do some small business and save some capital. When she goes to college, she can choose some projects and find people to cooperate with.
Early the next day, after making porridge and pancakes, Lu Yichen said, “Let’s have dumplings tonight. I’ll come back earlier this afternoon to prepare the filling.”
Luo Qiao replied, “Alright, let’s make two types. I’ll catch a fish after workâfish filling and pork filling.”
Shitou chuckled, “I feel so happy now. I want to shout out loud.”
Luo Qiao laughed, “I’ll teach you your lessons and the maths homework I assigned you yesterday. Don’t forget, okay?”
Shitou stood up and patted his chest then said, “Sister Luo Qiao, you can rest assured. I promise to remember everything, and when I go to school, I’ll directly enter the second grade and save on one year’s worth of textbooks and tuition.”
Sure enough, Luo Qiao lent Shitou the first-grade math and Chinese books. In just these few days, he had already learned one-third of the content. It seemed like he would smoothly enter the second grade when school started, and it might even be possible for him to skip to the third grade.
As Luo Qiao arrived at the riverbank, she heard Li Xiulan’s voice yelling at someone. A woman who had just arrived asked, “Why is Li Xiulan howling again?”
Another middle-aged woman said, “I heard that her daughter Gao Taohua slipped yesterday because it was cloudy and she couldn’t see the road clearly. Initially, they thought it was nothing serious, but in the middle of the night, Gao Taohua started wailing, claiming her ankle was swollen.
In the dead of night, she bothered the doctor Gao, and it turned out to be just a sprain without any bone injury. But she might not be able to work before her wedding. It would be strange if Li Xiulan didn’t howl.”
