Chapter 163: Questionable Character

Luo Qiao said, “I’ve finished everything. I really appreciate your help today, Sister Qu. This is a token of my appreciation. It’s nothing valuable, but please accept it.”

Qu Lili replied, “I feel really embarrassed about this.”

Luo Qiao smiled, “You accompanied me this morning, took the bus, and spent your time. I have to thank you, Sister Qu. Otherwise, I wouldn’t feel right.”

Seeing Luo Qiao insist, Qu Lili accepted the gift.

After exchanging a few more pleasantries, Luo Qiao took her leave.

Qu Lili happened to meet Ding Xiangdong as she was going upstairs, and since she had some unpleasant encounters with Jiang Shan before, she always helped anyone who was bullied by Jiang Shan.

Ding Xiangdong had just seen Luo Qiao’s back and then saw Qu Lili coming up from downstairs with something in her hand. He asked, “Sister Qu, was that Luo Qiao just now?”

Qu Lili replied, “Yes, she just left. She couldn’t settle down without a house, so she came to thank me.”

Ding Xiangdong immediately chased after her. Qu Lili had heard Luo Qiao say in the morning that she was introduced to Ding Xiangdong by an acquaintance who was Ding Xiangdong’s comrade.

Luo Qiao hurried out of the Housing Management Bureau because she had glimpsed Ding Xiangdong coming down from upstairs when she turned around. For some reason, she didn’t want to deal with him.

Thinking she would come back after getting the notice and have someone tidy up the yard, she could arrange for day schooling directly when school started.

When Luo Qiao took the bus back to the commune area, she saw Lu Yichen standing not far away.

Lu Yichen watched as the bus stopped and observed the passengers getting off. When he saw Luo Qiao descending from the bus, he pushed his bicycle and waited on the road leading back to the village.

As Luo Qiao approached, she asked, “Brother Lu, you weren’t waiting here for me, were you?”

Lu Yichen glanced at Luo Qiao and replied, “Don’t flatter yourself. I saw the bus coming from afar, so I got off to wait for you.”

Luo Qiao made a silly face behind him sneakily, but Lu Yichen caught her in the act.

Amused by her antics, Lu Yichen chuckled and then asked, “I heard from Ding Xiangdong that you’ve bought a house?”

Instead of answering directly, Luo Qiao countered, “How did he tell you about it?”

Lu Yichen listened to Luo Qiao’s words and sensed that there was definitely something going on. “He said everything was taken care of, the house has been bought, and all the procedures are done.”

Luo Qiao sneered mockingly, “Is this guy really your comrade?” She thought to herself that Ding Xiangdong’s character was questionable.

Seeing Luo Qiao’s displeased expression, Lu Yichen explained, “We served in the same unit before. We met a few times. I encountered him when I was in Ji City before. He said he works at the Housing Management Bureau after retiring.

When you mentioned buying a house, I remembered him. Did something happen?”

Luo Qiao didn’t want to speak ill of others behind their backs, so she replied, “It’s nothing. I did buy the house, but I didn’t bother him, so I don’t owe him any favors.”

She decided to mention it just in case, to avoid being deceived and naively thanking someone.
