Chapter 190: Contentment

They enjoyed cucumber salad and crunchy radishes marinated a few days ago, each had a boiled egg, along with porridge and steamed buns. After the events of last night, Shitou had regained his energy.

Shitou took a sip of porridge and a bite of radish, saying, “Big sister Luo Qiao, these marinated radishes are delicious!”

Luo Qiao smiled and replied, “If you find it delicious, have some more. You haven’t been eating well these past few days.”

Shitou chuckled, “So it’s true that you can’t eat when you have something on your mind. My mom used to say she couldn’t eat, and I always wondered why. Now I understand that when you have something on your mind, you really don’t feel hungry.”

Luo Qiao couldn’t help but laugh at this, “Shitou, don’t worry too much about yesterday’s events. Everyone needs to go through some experiences to grow faster.

You were brave to admit your mistakes and clarify things, avoiding unnecessary trouble. That was really great. Remember to learn from it in the future.”

Shitou nodded, “Got it.”

Luo Qiao patted Shitou’s head, “Alright, let’s turn the page on this matter.”

Shitou smiled, “Okay.”

Lu Yichen said, “Hurry up and eat. We have things to do later.”

Luo Qiao asked, “What about Shitou’s lunch today?”

Lu Yichen said, “I have some powdered milk. He can mix himself a bowl at noon. We still have steamed buns, pickled vegetables, and I also have a can of cheap beef stew for you, kid.”

Shitou replied, “I’ll just have the steamed buns and pickled vegetables. No need for the powdered milk. There’s hot water in the thermos, so I can just drink some. Sister Luo Qiao, don’t worry. I remember what you said.

I’m now drinking water from the thermos. As for the beef stew, let’s wait until you both come back so we can eat together. It doesn’t taste good eating it alone. I want to eat with Sister Luo Qiao and Brother Lu Yichen.”

Lu Yichen glanced at Shitou and asked, “Are you sure you want to eat with us?”

Shitou firmly replied, “Yes, together. I’m so grateful for everything now. Even when I was with my mom, I never had such good meals. My mom always made thin porridge and never fried any dishes. She just boiled the vegetables directly into the porridge. Sometimes we didn’t have enough food, and our stomachs would growl loudly in the middle of the night.

Later on, we would prepare some water and leave it by the bed. When we were hungry, we would drink some water, and that would calm our stomachs. My mom said drinking water could fill our stomachs and quiet them down.”

After finishing the last bite of his bun, Shitou continued, “I’ve never been full before. After my mom passed away, especially at my uncle’s house, it was even harder. That’s why I feel so happy now.

I have words to read, food to eat, and clothes to wear. You have no idea how envious the kids in the village are of me. Xiao Maozi, Shan Zhi, they all asked me if Brother Lu could also come to their homes.

Haha, they all envy me. When I grow up, I’ll definitely buy lots and lots of things for Brother Lu and Sister Luo Qiao, all the best and most expensive things.”

Seeing Shitou clasping his hands tightly and his eyes shining, it was because Luo Qiao had inadvertently mentioned a few words about the future life they wanted to lead. Shitou knew that to live a good life, he had to study hard.

Only then could he make a name for himself and repay Brother Lu and Sister Luo Qiao well. He dreamed of earning lots and lots of money to spend on Luo Qiao and Brother Lu, and that was his dream now.
