What Luo Qiao didn’t know was that the few words originally intended to guide Shitou had now become his obsession. Sensing something amiss with Shitou, Luo Qiao asked, “Shitou, what are you thinking?”

Shitou’s eyes gleamed as he said, “I want to earn lots and lots of money in the future, to spend on Sister Luo Qiao and Brother Lu.”

Luo Qiao pulled Shitou closer and said, “Shitou, whatever you do, you must do it earnestly. Don’t aim too high and far. Brother Lu and I intend to encourage you to change your current situation through learning.

In the future, change your own destiny through knowledge, broaden your horizons, and realize your self-worth. Of course, wanting to earn a lot of money is not wrong, but that shouldn’t be your sole purpose. You mustn’t be money-minded.”

Shitou felt uneasy and lowered his head. “I understand, Sister Luo Qiao. For now, I just need to study hard.”

“Yes, Shitou. In the future, you should become an upright, kind, intelligent, courageous, and responsible man.”

Lu Yichen glanced at Luo Qiao. She was guiding Shitou with such patience and wisdom. He thought to himself that Shitou was fortunate to have met Luo Qiao; otherwise, who knows what kind of person he would grow up to be?

This kid is really too smart. If he continues to grow up in the Sun family without good guidance, he might easily go to extremes.

Lu Yichen efficiently finished washing the dishes and left. Luo Qiao prepared lunch for Shitou and packed it into a small basket, adding a few pieces of candy for him.

The three of them left the house together. This time, Luo Qiao didn’t bring a basket but instead wore a cross-body bag she had made herself. Well, she had to bring a cheat sheet somehow.

Shitou carried the small basket and headed towards Lu Yichen’s courtyard. Luo Qiao instructed him to study for a while and then go out to play with his friends, not to keep reading for too long as it would strain his eyes.

After Shitou nodded in agreement, Luo Qiao walked down the path towards the village outskirts. Not long after leaving the village, Lu Yichen rode up on his bike.

They reached the crossroads of the commune. Lu Yichen found a place to park his bicycle while Luo Qiao waited by the roadside for the bus.

Timing seemed just right as the bus arrived shortly after Lu Yichen, and they both boarded. There were two empty seats, just not together. As Luo Qiao sat down, she heard Lu Yichen asking the man next to him, “Comrade, could you please switch seats?”

The man, seeing them board together, didn’t mind and quickly moved to another seat.

In front of Luo Qiao, there was an older sister holding a little boy who kept crying incessantly. The conversations around her on the bus were getting increasingly unpleasant, but no matter how they tried to soothe him, the child just kept crying.

Luo Qiao signaled for Lu Yichen to make room and stood up, walking over. “Elder sister, let me take a look at the child. He can’t keep crying like this.”

The elder sister, now visibly worried and sweating, asked, “Young lady, do you know about medicine?”

Luo Qiao smiled. “It’s nothing. Continuous crying isn’t good for the throat. Next time you take her on a ride, massage her temples, Neiguan point, and Zusanli point. It’ll make her feel better.”

The elder sister smiled back. “Alright, I’ll remember that. I’m so lucky to have met you today. Otherwise, I wouldn’t know what to do.”

Luo Qiao chuckled. “I’m just glad the child is alright.”

As she stood up to return to her seat, her legs felt a bit numb from squatting for too long. Just then, the bus hit a rough patch, causing Luo Qiao to softly exclaim, “Ah!”
