Chapter 193: Too Dangerous
The bus twisted like a pretzel on the road for a while before Lu Yichen managed to stabilize it and parked over to the side of the road. It was really too dangerous.
Fortunately, there weren’t many cars on the road in this era. If this had happened in later years, it would likely have caused a traffic accident.
The ticket salesman was also flustered and ran up asking, “Driver Shi, what’s wrong?”
Lu Yichen replied, “He’s fallen ill. We need to get him to the hospital quickly.”
Lu Yichen shouted to the passengers in the bus, “Could a few gentlemen please come forward and help lay the driver flat?”
The woman who had been insulting others earlier complained, “This is delaying us. Besides, who dares to help? If something goes wrong with those who assist, won’t they be in trouble themselves?”
Luo Qiao stood up and was about to move forward when she heard the woman’s words. She turned around and said sharply, “Shut up. I hope you never have a day when you need someone’s help.”
As she spoke, several men had already helped Lu Yichen lay the driver down from the driver’s seat, placing him flat in the aisle. Luo Qiao quickly checked him and then said to the ticket salesman, “It seems like a heart problem. He needs urgent medical attention.”
The ticket salesman said anxiously, “But I don’t know how to help.” He was sweating profusely with worry.
Luo Qiao instructed everyone to return to their seats and asked them to open the windows for better air circulation inside the bus.
While speaking, she began performing CPR on the driver and told the ticket salesman, “Listen to my instructions later for giving the driver artificial respiration. Whether he can make it to the hospital depends on this.”
As she administered first aid, she asked Lu Yichen, “Can you drive this bus?”
Understanding her meaning, Lu Yichen turned and walked towards the driver’s seat. He knew the driver had to be taken to the hospital immediately; what Luo Qiao was doing could only be considered first aid.
The same woman from earlier spoke up again, “Hey, you can’t play with all our lives. Can just anyone drive this bus?”
The ticket salesman, already stressed, snapped, “Can you please shut up? What have you ever done except complain since you got on? Besides blabbering, have you ever done anything useful? I wonder which big shot cursed you to have such an attitude for generations.”
The woman wanted to retort but was restrained by her son, who didn’t want to provoke further anger.
Lu Yichen drove the bus steadily onto the highway. They were not far from the urban area, and soon they arrived at the nearest hospital. It was then that everyone realized this young man’s driving skills were not inferior to the old driver’s.
Meanwhile, Luo Qiao directed the ticket salesman to perform CPR on the driver. After ten minutes passed without any response from the driver, Luo Qiao did not give up.
As soon as the bus stopped, Lu Yichen ran inside to call for help. When hospital staff arrived with a stretcher, the driver finally showed signs of consciousness, and Luo Qiao could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
She was just thinking that if he didn’t wake up, she would give him a sip of the well water from her spatial ring, fearing he wouldn’t recover.
Seeing the driver being carried away by doctors, the ticket salesman apologized to the passengers, “The bus station is not far from here. I’m really sorry for today. Please get off here.”
After bowing to the passengers, he followed Luo Qiao’s reminder and removed the bus keys. Ignoring whatever the passengers were saying, he hurried into the hospital.
Initially, the woman who had wanted to scold someone was about to speak up again, but when she met Lu Yichen’s icy gaze, she was frightened into silence. She muttered quietly to her son, “What a mess. We haven’t even reached the station yet.”
