Chapter 1: Transmigration
Under the big willow tree in the center of Qingshan Village, the villagers were still gossiping about the dramatic recognition scene at the Zhao family’s second house yesterday. It was more exciting than a play.
Just a moment ago, Luo Qiao had been battling zombies in the apocalypse. After being pushed into the zombie horde by a teammate, she couldn’t save herself. She lost consciousness after hearing someone behind her calling her name with heart-wrenching desperation.
The next moment, when Luo Qiao woke up, she found herself in an unfamiliar place, feeling weak all over and suffering from a severe headache. Before she could think much, a flood of memories rushed into her mind.
As she endured the headache and sorted through the memories, she realized she had transmigrated into the body of a pitiful 15-year-old girl named Luo Qiao from the 1980s. The names of the people in her original body’s memories seemed very familiar. She closed her eyes and repeated them several times.
Then she remembered—this was a novel she had read before, “The Switched Life.” In the novel, the supporting character was also named Luo Qiao, who lived a miserable life and only found out at her death that her life had been switched with someone else’s.
Recalling the vague plot details, she understood why the Zhao family of Qingshan Village didn’t acknowledge this returned daughter. Only Zhao family’s second daughter-in-law, Gao Suhua, knew that Luo Qiao was not her biological daughter. Now that the son she had raised for fifteen years had left with his biological parents, and with six daughters still to raise at home, she resolutely refused to acknowledge Luo Qiao.
Just as Luo Qiao figured out that she had not only transmigrated but also entered a book, a magnetic voice sounded, “Awake?”
Luo Qiao looked in the direction of the voice and saw someone open the curtain at the doorway. A tall, and handsome man with a cold expression and deep, sharp eyes walked in, leaning on crutches.
Calming herself, Luo Qiao asked in a hoarse voice, “Who are you? Where am I?”
Lu Yichen looked at the girl, whose face was still pale, and without answering her question, he said coldly, “Get up and drink the medicine.”
Luo Qiao wanted to ask more, but when she met his cold gaze, she obediently sat up despite her dizziness, took the bowl, and drank the medicinal soup with difficulty.
After drinking, she handed back the bowl and instinctively said, “Thank you.”
The man on the ground said, “Lu Yichen. That’s my name. Get some rest.” Then he left the room.
Luo Qiao was confused. What is happening now? In the novel, the Zhao family, under pressure from the village chief, eventually accepted Luo Qiao but always treated her like a servant. Who was this man, and where was she now?
Seeing the man leave just like that, Luo Qiao was furious, but since she was feeling very dizzy, she decided to wait until she felt better. She soon drifted off to sleep again.
Luo Qiao seemed to have a dream where she found herself in a small valley. The scenery was pleasant, with a waterfall cascading down a mountain to form a small stream. Outside the valley was about ten acres of empty farmland.
Across the stream, the land was lush and green, and in the distance, there was a two-story bamboo house.
Luo Qiao walked over the stone bridge on the stream and reached the bamboo house, softly asking, “Is anyone there?”
After a long silence with no reply, Luo Qiao felt awkward entering someone’s home, so she continued walking along the path.
In front of the bamboo house, there was a three-acre flower garden with peonies, roses, crabapples, camellias, orchids, peonies, jasmines, and roses.
Further ahead was a large medicinal herb garden, where ginseng and lingzhi [1]“Lingzhi”, also known as Reishi, is a type of mushroom scientifically referred to as Ganoderma lucidum. It was truly a remarkable sight, with a complete array of medicinal plants.
