Chapter 228: Looking for Trouble
After speaking, Shang Hongying turned around, and left the house, thinking that people like her sister-in-law needed to be taught a lesson to prevent them from causing bigger troubles for the family in the future.
However, just thinking about the possibility of affecting her own children in the future made her hope that her father-in-law and husband could persuade Luo Qiao to change her mind.
In Ji City, Luo Qiao, after waking up, tidied up and first went to the train station. There were no direct trains to the south from Ji City, so she had to go to Jinan and transfer.
Luo Qiao, holding the introduction letter from Gao Jiefang, bought the earliest train ticket for tomorrow, which departed at eight in the morning. After securing the ticket, she headed towards the Yao family. She had already prepared the things she needed to bring to the Yao family while she was at home.
As she neared the Yao family’s home, she found a secluded spot to transfer the items into a backpack. There weren’t any valuable items, just two fish, ten eggs, and the rest were vegetables from her own land.
Luo Qiao did not expect that Zhang Dezhen and his son had been waiting outside the Grand Theater staff compound for so long that they were almost sunburned. Zhang Dongze borrowed a bowl from somewhere, had a drink of water himself, and then brought a bowl to his father. At that moment, Luo Qiao happened to enter the staff building of the Grand Theater.
Meanwhile, the eldest daughter of the Yao family was arguing with her mother in the yard.
The reason was that after returning today, she learned that her father had beaten someone for Luo Qiao. Unhappy, she said, “Why are you always so proactive about Luo Qiao’s issues?
If someone seeks revenge against us, where will we seek justice? We are not related to Luo Qiao. Why is she dragging these troubles to our home?”
Wu Peiling, somewhat angry, said, “Yao Lili, what’s wrong with you? How did Luo Qiao offended you? Why do you have such a big problem with her?”
Yao Lili replied, “Yes, she has offended me. From childhood to now, you’ve always protected her. It’s understandable on the farm where she was close by and you protected her because you felt sorry for her. But now she’s far away from you, why are you still rushing to take care of her affairs?”
Wu Peiling, infuriated, grabbed a broom and was about to hit Yao Lili. Fearing being struck, Yao Lili turned and ran out of the yard, only to see Luo Qiao standing at the gate.
She was stunned for a moment and then shouted, “What are you doing here?”
Luo Qiao calmly said, “I came to see Uncle Yao and Aunt.”
Wu Peiling rushed over and, upon hearing her daughter speaking to someone, put down the broom she had been holding and asked, “Who are you talking to so rudely?”
She looked up and saw Luo Qiao standing outside the gate. She quickly pushed her eldest daughter, Yao Lili, aside and said, “I can’t believe you didn’t send a notice. If two people hadn’t come looking for you today, we wouldn’t have known you were injured.
By the way, where are you hurt? Let me see. How did you end up encountering that malicious girl?”
Hearing Wu Peiling, the neighbors gathered around. A woman asked, “Peiling, is this the girl who almost got hit by the cow?”
Wu Peiling then realized Luo Qiao was still standing outside and introduced her with a smile, “This is Luo Qiao, the top student in this year’s city middle school exam.”
Luo Qiao greeted everyone with a smile.
The neighbors took turns praising Luo Qiao. Someone said, “This girl is really beautiful and does so well in her studies. I wonder which lucky young man will benefit in the future?”
An elderly woman nearby asked, “I heard you nearly fell off a cliff. Are your injuries serious?”
Luo Qiao didn’t want to elaborate, but the neighbors’ enthusiasm made it hard to avoid. She briefly recounted the incident again.
When Wu Peiling felt it was enough, she said, “Alright, everyone, go home now and let her rest.”
The crowd dispersed, but just as Wu Peiling was about to lead Luo Qiao into the yard, Yao Lili blocked the way, “What’s this? I heard your village gave you half a month off. Are you planning to stay idle at my house for the entire time?”
This was Luo Qiao’s first time meeting Yao Lili. According to the original owner’s memory, Yao Lili had always been hostile towards her, resenting their parents for dividing their love and frequently seeking trouble with Luo Qiao.
