Chapter 284: Yan Jiajia Gets Scolded
Qiao Meng was furious, thinking that if her aunt found out about today’s incident, she couldn’t imagine what she’d say.
Qiao Meng wasn’t the daughter of any employee at the machinery factory. She was the niece of Qiao Haiqing, the deputy director in charge of production. Her biological parents had divorced years ago due to personality differences, and shortly after, both remarried and didn’t want to raise Qiao Meng. As a result, under her grandmother’s arrangement, Qiao Meng was sent to live with her uncle.
Because of this, Qiao Meng’s aunt often made a fuss. However, the deputy director, having promised both his mother and his younger brother, couldn’t send her back and was left with no choice but to raise her for the time being.
In the past, Qiao Meng often hung out with Luo Jianing, but she was always trying to please her. Now that Luo Jianing was in such a bad situation, Qiao Meng secretly felt delighted. But today, when she saw Luo Qiao—well-dressed, beautiful, and having heard that she was the top scorer in Ji City’s high school entrance exams—she felt a sense of imbalance.
That’s why she ended up making such a foolish mistake today.
When Luo Qiao and the others returned home, the food was already on the table. The old man was in high spirits today and asked Luo Haotian to open a bottle of wine, pouring for all the adults, while the younger ones drank the soda they had brought back.
Grandpa Luo raised his glass and said, “Today is a great day. Let’s raise a glass to welcome Qiaoqiao home.”
The table was filled with delicious dishes, and laughter filled the air. Even Ning Xueling, influenced by the cheerful atmosphere, had a softer smile on her face.
During the meal, the elders all gave their first bites to Luo Qiao. “Eat more,”
Grandma Luo looked at Luo Qiao and remarked, “Although you’ve suffered for over fifteen years, your height is definitely inherited from our family.”
Luo Qiao chuckled and coughed lightly, saying, “Someone once said I just grew into a big dumb giant.”
Grandma Luo pretended to be angry. “That’s just jealousy—there’s no such thing as a ‘dumb giant.'”
Ning Xueling looked at her daughter, whose face resembled her own mother’s so much, and said to her mother-in-law, “Mom, don’t leave after lunch. Stay for dinner at my place. My brother and the others will come over after work, and we can all have another lively gathering tonight.”
Grandma Luo looked at the other two families and asked, “Do you all have plans this afternoon?”
The people from the first and third houses laughed and said, “No, we’ve all taken the day off.”
After everything was settled, the women started cleaning up the dishes, while Grandpa Luo called Luo Qiao and his three sons into the study.
Once everyone found a seat, Grandpa Luo asked, “Luo Qiao, do you really want to stay in Ji City for high school?”
Luo Qiao nodded. “Yes. When I enrolled, the school took such good care of me. And before the break, they even involved the police because of some issues, risking the school’s reputation for my sake.
I can’t be ungrateful. Besides, I think the atmosphere at Ji City No.1 High School is great, and I’ve gotten used to it. I don’t want to adapt to a new environment again.”
Luo Haotian, hearing that something had happened to his daughter before the break, asked, “Qiaoqiao, what happened at school?”
Luo Qiao briefly explained what had happened, which made Luo Haotian so angry that he wanted to deal with that Yan Jiajia, as well as Jiang Shan. Even Ding Xiangdong didn’t seem like a good person.
Luo Qiao said, “Everything has already been taken care of, so you don’t need to worry about me.”
Meanwhile, back in Ji City, after Yan Jiajia returned home for the holiday, word quickly spread among the neighbors about what had happened at school. Everyone was surprised that a girl who usually seemed so kind could be like this.
Yan Guiming came home from work and was laughed at by people in the alley. With a dark expression, he asked his daughter what had happened and gave her a serious scolding. If she wasn’t a girl, he might have hit her.
Zhang Yanwen, looking at her daughter Yan Jiajia, also said, “Jiajia, you were indeed wrong today. If word about this reaches your cousin and cousin-in-law’s workplaces and affects their jobs, your aunt’s family will probably blame us.
You really don’t make things easy for us. How other people live is none of your business. Look at what you’ve done—nothing happened to them, but your own reputation is ruined. How are you going to continue at school after this?”
Yan Jiajia now realized how much she had embarrassed herself. She didn’t expect her parents to scold her instead of comforting her. Crying, she ran into her room.
