Chapter 79: Malice

Gao Suhua thought to herself that she and her younger sister-in-law had already planned it out. The Luo family would never meddle in Luo Qiao’s affairs again. So, even if they did something, no one would intervene on her behalf.

As long as they sent her to Beipo Village, that family would certainly not let her escape the village. Even if she wanted to resist, she would be isolated and helpless. She heard that family in Beipo Village was one of the prominent clans there.

As an orphan, she only had to obey. The men in that village were not known for their good temper. With her plan set in her mind, she decided to finish work and go to the neighboring Jia village in the evening to discuss with her younger sister-in-law.

At worst, she could share some money with her younger sister-in-law. With her plans in place, she began to focus on her work. Just thinking about the money she would receive in a few days made her feel ecstatic.

Luo Qiao had no idea that so many people were plotting against her. She was just thinking about what to cook for lunch at home.

Returning home after noon, she was in the kitchen washing vegetables and preparing to cook a braised dish, when she heard someone calling from outside, “Is anyone home?”

Luo Qiao set down the vegetables and went outside, asking, “Who are you?”

Standing outside was a girl slightly shorter than herself. Looking at Luo Qiao, she said, “I’m Qiao Ruimei. The class teacher asked you to attend the mid-term exams at school tomorrow. Be there before 8 a.m. and go to his office first.”

“Thank you, Student Qiao,” Luo Qiao responded.

Qiao Ruimei looked at this transfer student who was in the same class but didn’t need to attend classes daily, thinking it was a waste of money to not attend classes and expect good grades.

Luo Qiao said, “Ruimei, please wait a moment.”

She turned and went back into the house, fetching two dried red dates. “Thanks for making this trip. Take these for the road.”

Qiao Ruimei felt a bit embarrassed. “How can I accept this? It’s not a big deal.”

Luo Qiao insisted, “Take it. It’s nothing precious. In the future, I might need you to pass messages for me. Even if it’s on your way, you’ll still need to make a turn.”

Qiao Ruimei didn’t expect Luo Qiao to be so efficient. She said, “Then make sure to arrive early tomorrow to avoid missing the exam.”

Luo Qiao replied, “Okay, I’ll come early tomorrow. Take care on your way.”

After seeing her classmate off, Luo Qiao quickly prepared her meal, ate, and cleaned up. Then she went to the captain’s house and requested another day off.

In the evening, after practicing in the space and doing yoga, she read for a while before going to bed early, knowing she had to go to school the next day.

In the morning, she cooked eggs and made porridge in the space, ate with pickled vegetables, and packed up after finishing. Then she left the space.

She wore old clothes today because she didn’t want to attract too much attention at school. Being a transfer student already made her stand out, and with a few more months until the high school entrance exam, she didn’t want any unnecessary trouble.

Last time when she went to the commune, Luo Qiao bought two pens and a notebook. She walked quickly, arriving at the school just as the school gates had opened not long ago. After greeting the gatekeeper, she went straight to the head teacher’s office.

Unexpectedly, there were already several teachers in the office. Luo Qiao lightly knocked on the door, and several teachers inside simultaneously looked up.

The head teacher, Ning Lintian, saw Luo Qiao and said, “Come in.”

After entering, Luo Qiao greeted, “Hello, teachers.”

The other teachers sitting nodded friendly towards Luo Qiao and then continued with their own tasks.

Teacher Ning said, “Today is the mid-term exam. Have you been studying well at home?”

Luo Qiao replied, “Rest assured, Teacher Ning. I review my lessons every day.”
