Chapter 91: Slapped in the Face
Zhao Pulin was stunned and anxiously asked, “You damned woman, what on earth are you talking about? Be clearer.”
Gao Suhua looked at Zhao Chunli, who was standing nearby, and quickly rushed over, saying, “Chunli, it’s wrong. They took the wrong person. It’s Xiaomei. Xiaomei was taken away by them. It must be that bitch Luo Qiao who did it.
You quickly take you second brother. We’ll find a few more people and head to Beipo Village right now. While people don’t know yet, we’ll bring Xiaomei back.”
The couple at the door, Zhao Changlin and his wife, became more and more confused as they listened, but Zhao Pulin understood. He slapped Gao Suhua directly across the face and said, “If anything happens to Xiaomei, I won’t forgive you.”
Then he hurriedly called his older brother, brother-in-law, and his older brother’s two sons, along with Gao Suhua and Zhao Chunli. The group hurried to Beipo Village.
Zhao Xiaomei still hadn’t woken up yet. She was lying on the kang (a traditional bed-stove) in the Mao family’s house in Beipo Village. The man with the broken leg was staring at her with a gloomy expression.
The man had been married before, but after his accident, his wife ran off with someone else. His family wanted to find a woman who could take care of him, so they pooled their money together.
They heard that this woman’s family had six daughters, so her mother sold her off. They wondered what kind of trouble she would cause when she woke up.
Her mother was quite ruthless, and who knows how strong the drug was that she used. It had been five or six hours, and Xiaomei still hadn’t woken up.

After finishing her work, Luo Qiao specifically glanced towards the Zhao family’s door. Seeing it quiet, she thought to herself that the Zhao family must have realized they had sent the wrong person by now. Heh!
After returning home in good spirits, she steamed some rice, took a fish out of her space, and made a fragrant fish dish. She also stir-fried some dry-fried green beans, sliced some pickled cucumbers, and prepared a tomato and egg soup.
Once she finished eating and tidied up, she added water to the pot, lit the fire, and put in a piece of firewood before returning to her room. She still had some bedding, borrowed from the captain’s family, that she had taken apart and washed but hadn’t finished sewing.
Thinking there wasn’t much left to do, she decided to finish sewing it today and return it, which would ease her mind.
Recently, she had been practicing embroidery in her space, so sewing the bedding was not difficult for her. Moreover, in her previous life, she had studied fashion design, giving her a solid foundation.
Previously, she had seen Sister Song sewing a quilt at the captain’s house, and with the original owner’s memories, it didn’t take her long to finish the remaining work.
She got up, went to the kitchen to put out the fire, and took a bath. Deciding not to practice martial arts in her space today to avoid sweating and needing another bath, she gathered the items the captain’s family had lent her.
She then found two liang (about 100 grams) of tea leaves from the space and put them into a bamboo tube since she had nothing else to store the tea leaves in.
She thought about buying some kraft paper from the commune tomorrow to keep on hand, as she had nothing at home for such uses.
She placed the bowl and bamboo tube in her backpack and carried the quilt herself as she made her way to the captain’s house.
By now, it was getting dark. Many neighbors were sitting on the stones outside the captain’s house, chatting. When they saw Luo Qiao approaching, one of the older ladies asked, “Luo Qiao, why are you carrying bedding?”
Luo Qiao smiled and replied, “Auntie, the captain’s family lent this to me earlier. A few days ago, I brought back my own bedding, so I took apart and washed this one to return it to Aunt Qiao.”
Just then, Aunt Qiao heard the commotion and came out, saying, “Oh dear, why the rush? You didn’t have to make a special trip.”
She took the bedding and added, “You barely used it for a few days. Why go through the trouble of washing it?”
