Chapter 100: Saving Lives Comes First

The village party secretary Zhang Dezhen was now anxious. If they delayed any longer, something serious might happen. This was work he arranged for his own brother-in-law. If anything went wrong, it would spell big trouble.

He quickly ordered someone to fetch a mule cart from the livestock farm. Mules ran faster than oxen.

Captain Gao approached and said, “Secretary Zhang, don’t you have a spare key to the health station? Let’s stop Gao Shunyi’s bleeding first. Otherwise, by the time we get to the commune health clinic, he might have bled out.”

Secretary Zhang replied, “Yes, I have the key right here with me. But in our village, besides Dr. Gao, no one else understands these things.”

This time, Secretary Zhang was truly flustered. He feared that these two might really get into serious trouble, implicating his own brother-in-law.

With a complicated expression, Party Secretary Zhang Dezhen said to Luo Qiao, “Come with me and see what you need. I’ll take it myself.”

The health station was nearby, and Luo Qiao had just heard that the village doctor wasn’t around today. This was a matter of life and death, so she didn’t argue with Captain Gao anymore.

Quickly following inside, she took what she needed and shouted loudly, “Could someone please bring over a basin of warm water and a clean towel?”

Upon hearing this, people nearby hurried to prepare and brought them over promptly. Everyone’s faces paled as they looked at Gao Shunyi; everyone feared something might really go wrong.

Luo Qiao skillfully cleaned the wound, applied medicine, and bandaged it, leaving the villagers in awe of her proficiency.

After finishing dressing Gao Shunyi’s wounds, she also checked on Qiao Congshan, who had a broken left leg.

Concerned that the villagers might not understand, Luo Qiao had someone find two wooden boards to stabilize his broken leg before carefully helping him onto the cart.

As they watched the cart disappear into the distance, the expressions on the faces of the villagers were somber.

Seeing that everything was settled, Luo Qiao tidied up the items in her hands and handed them over to Captain Gao before preparing to head home.

Captain Gao Jiefang looked somewhat embarrassed as he said, “Luo Qiao, I apologize for not consulting with you beforehand about this matter today. The situation with Gao Shunyi was critical, so there wasn’t time to discuss.”

Luo Qiao smiled and replied, “It’s okay, saving lives is what matters.”

Some villagers overheard their conversation. One person commented, “Luo Qiao is extraordinary. She knows how to stop bleeding and bandage wounds. Her movements were so skilled, no less than Doctor Gao.”

“Thank goodness Luo Qiao helped stop the bleeding. You didn’t see how pale Gao Shunyi’s face was. There was a lot of blood when they carried him out of Zhang De’s house earlier.”

“I couldn’t do something like that. It would scare me to death. Luo Qiao, this girl, is brave and meticulous. She really helped a lot today.”
