Chapter 21
The door opened and a middle-aged woman came out. She had short hair and wore a pair of black-framed glasses. Her eyes were a little cold and her lips were very thin. For some reason, she reminded Fan Hua of the dean who was called an old witch by her classmates in high school.
“Who are you?”
“I’m the new neighbor next door. I’m new here, so please take care of me in the future!” Fan Hua said with a smile.
Although she also disliked this woman, she believed in the principle of not hitting someone who smiled at her. As long as they didn’t provoke her, she didn’t mind smiling at people more.
When the woman saw Fan Hua’s ingratiating smile, she glanced at the chicken soup in the bowl and said in a cold tone: “I don’t like chicken soup, you can take it back!” Then she closed the door directly.
“Damn!!! So arrogant!!!” Fan Hua couldn’t help but puff out her cheeks and complain in a low voice.
Just as I was about to turn around and leave, I heard voices coming from inside the room.
“Who knocked on the door just now?” a man asked.
“Jiang Wenli just moved into that room.” Cai Ronghua replied disdainfully.
“What are you doing here?”
“He brought us a bowl of chicken soup, trying to please us, but I didn’t want it. There were only two pieces of chicken in it, not enough to fill my stomach, so I just refused it.”
“You are just too strong-willed. She just meant well. Why make things so awkward?”
…
Fan Hua didn’t listen any more. She poured the chicken soup back into the pot and went back to her room with a sullen face. After all this, the nausea she felt was gone. She just felt a little tired and wanted to lie down on the bed and have a good rest for a while.
Fan Hua had just laid down when Geng Ailing had finished sending her children to other families and came back. Seeing that Fan Hua looked unhappy, she went over to ask what was going on.
“Lihua, what’s wrong with you? You don’t look happy? Are you feeling uncomfortable?”
“Nothing, I’m just a little tired and want to lie down for a while. Sister Ailing, have you finished delivering to those three families?”
“Oh, two bowls were sent out because one family was not there.” Geng Ailing replied quickly.
“How are those two families?” After all, she would be living here in the future, and Fan Hua also wanted to get to know her neighbors better, as they would see them every day.
“The fourth house is occupied by a family of three. There is a boy who looks about five or six years old. The father is not at home. The mother looks like an honest person. She kept thanking me and gave me some rice cakes in return. Do you want to eat them? I’ll give them to you.”
When Fan Hua heard this, her eyes lit up. “Okay, get me a piece so I can try it.”
Geng Ailing took a piece from the kitchen and put it in Fan Hua’s hand and continued, “No one was at the fifth house, and I didn’t know what happened. The door of the sixth house was opened by an old lady, who might be an elderly person in the family. She was quite old and a little hard of hearing, so it was difficult for her to communicate. I put down the chicken soup and came back without saying much to her.”
“What about you? How are the people living next door to us?” Geng Ailing asked curiously.
Fan Hua felt a little upset when she thought of Cai Ronghua. She said in a bad tone, “Don’t mention it. I heard that the woman living in the first house is called Cai Ronghua. She is a sworn enemy of Aunt Jiang in the newspaper office. She is not even worthy of Aunt Jiang’s shoes. Not only is she ugly, but she has a bad temper. She looked down on our bowl of chicken soup and thought that we were trying to curry favor with her, so she just closed the door and refused!”
“There’s even this! You don’t even like chicken soup, I can’t bear to drink it!”
“Don’t worry, it’s just right. I feel it’s a pity to send it to her. Sister Ailing, drink more later.”
“Well, what about the third household?” Geng Ailing asked.
