Yu Wanlai was about to speak when the woman suddenly pulled him into an embrace.
He hurriedly pushed her away, stepping back several paces. In the quiet, dimly lit underground parking lot, a woman suddenly grabbed him, and he almost lost his soul from the shock. Upon hearing her claim to be his mother, he let out a sigh of relief, but then thought: this mother is even more heartless than the antagonist. It’s no wonder the original owner ended up like that—she played a big part in it.
“What are you here for?”
Chu Xu was all smiles, acting like a mother who simply missed her son. “What do you think? Of course, I came to see you.”
Yu Wanlai stepped back again, avoiding her reaching hand. “Oh, now that you’ve seen me, I need to go to work, so I’ll be leaving…”
When she saw him about to leave, Chu Xu’s expression changed, and she became more direct, extending a hand. “Give me the money! Once you give it to me, you can go.”
Yu Wanlai: I can’t believe I’m being stopped like this…
“What money?”
When she heard this, Chu Xu completely lost her patience. “What money? Don’t forget who worked hard to get you into the Yu family!”
Yu Wanlai finally understood what was going on. In the original story, this wasn’t mentioned in detail, so he wasn’t aware of it. No wonder the original spent money so quickly. He took out his wallet. “I forgot earlier, how much do you need?”
Seeing the wallet, Chu Xu immediately smiled with joy. “I knew you were a good son and would have a good life…”
Yu Wanlai pulled out a few red banknotes, but when he saw Chu Xu’s look of disappointment, he could only take out his phone. “Give me your QR code, I’ll scan it for you. I can only transfer this much; anything more, and I won’t have enough.”
New to this world, Yu Wanlai wasn’t quite familiar with how this mother and son interacted, but he was concerned about maintaining his cover. The original owner’s biological mother had been with him for 18 years, and he felt a bit guilty for replacing her son.
After receiving the money, Chu Xu finally reacted. “You deleted me?!”
Yu Wanlai cleared his throat and weakly said, “No, my old phone was lost, and all my contacts were gone.”
Chu Xu looked at him suspiciously, pulled out a QR code, and complained, “How could you forget your own mother’s contact info…?”
Yu Wanlai was amazed by her acting skills. Unable to hold back, he retorted, “Well, at least you have a mother like that, huh?”
Chu Xu sneered. “Fine, I have to go now. I’ll come back to see you next time,” she said, grabbing her bag and walking off without looking back.
This scene happened to catch the eye of Yu Qingyue, who was sitting in a car not far away. He sneered and raised his phone to take a picture. He knew this person wouldn’t stay obedient for long. He just didn’t expect the fox’s tail to show so quickly.
Yu Wanlai suddenly felt a chill on his back. Wasn’t the saying “losing money averts disaster”? Why did he have the feeling that the real disaster was just beginning?
Just as Yu Wanlai stepped out of the employee elevator, the exclusive elevator doors opened, and Yu Qingyue appeared.
Yu Wanlai: Is this timing a bit too coincidental?
He raised a hand and waved. “Good morning, little… uh, President Yu~”
Yu Qingyue snorted coldly and said, “Follow me.” He turned and walked toward his office.
Yu Wanlai was confused. Wasn’t Yu Qingyue just a lot friendlier to him a few days ago? He followed Yu Qingyue and stopped at the desk as Yu Qingyue pulled out a chair and sat down.
Yu Qingyue placed one hand on the desk and held his phone with the other, as though ready to throw it at Yu Wanlai at any moment.
Yu Wanlai felt exhausted. This person hadn’t said a word and just stared at him, making him wonder if something was wrong with his face. He couldn’t stand being stared at any longer and forced a smile. “Little brother~ What are you doing so early? Want to bond with your big brother?”
Yu Qingyue leaned back, resting against the back of his chair, arms crossed, and sneered coldly. “Speaking of which, I actually want to ask you something. Have you met anyone recently?”
He suddenly raised his eyes to look at Yu Wanlai, his face full of shock. “How did you know? I met my mother, what’s wrong with that?” He had just met her, and yet it was already known? He felt even more exhausted. He had been extorted a large sum of money in the morning, and now he had to stand here and face this soul-searching interrogation. So much for the rights of a villain.
Yu Qingyue’s expression froze for a moment. He didn’t expect the person to be so honest, so perhaps he could trust him for now… He raised his hand and threw his phone onto the desk, making a light “bang” sound. Just then, his assistant Xu Ran knocked on the door to report something. Yu Qingyue waved impatiently at Yu Wanlai. “Alright, you can go now.”
It wasn’t an exaggeration—Yu Wanlai had almost broken out in cold sweat from being stared at. The office environment seemed to give Yu Qingyue an aura, and his superiority was undeniable. It reminded Yu Wanlai of the tragic end of the villain in the original story.
Yu Wanlai sat back down in his chair and stretched lazily.
In the afternoon, Yu Wanlai had just lifted his head from the computer when he noticed the lighting around him had dimmed. Several assistants had already left, and even Xu Ran wasn’t around today. Yu Wanlai rubbed his sore neck. In the morning, his mood had been affected, and he had spent a lot of energy trying to figure out the plot, which delayed his work. The whole afternoon was spent catching up on tasks.
He glanced at the wall clock—it was nearly an hour past the end of the workday. He shut down the computer and turned off the power, grabbed his keys, and was ready to leave. But then, he noticed that the lights in Yu Qingyue’s office were still on.
Yu Wanlai hesitated for a moment, then turned and walked toward the office. He lightly knocked on the door. “Knock knock—” After hearing Yu Qingyue’s response, he pushed the door open and entered.
Yu Qingyue was bent over, busy with something, not looking up. “What’s the matter? If it’s the proposal, you can just leave it on the desk…”
Yu Wanlai stayed silent, waiting until Yu Qingyue noticed something was off and looked up at him. He then smiled lightly. “Little brother, you’re so busy… It’s after work, time to go home and rest…”
Before he could finish his sentence, Yu Qingyue lowered his head again. “You can leave now. By the way, starting tomorrow, you’ll be working with me.”
He thought for a moment, feeling he should keep an eye on Yu Wanlai. Otherwise, he wouldn’t feel at ease.
Yu Wanlai gritted his teeth: What’s this about? He’d already bought his motorcycle, and now suddenly Yu Qingyue was going to take him with him from now on? Did he have so much money? All the money he had earned working recently was going to be taken by these people!
Yu Wanlai was so angry he was about to slam the door on his way out. As he turned to close the door, he saw the person still busy behind the desk. He pivoted his foot and slammed the door shut, then sat down on the sofa to the left.
The sky outside was gradually growing darker, and as Yu Wanlai lay on the sofa, he glanced at the time on his phone—it was already nearly 7 PM. He turned his head again to look at Yu Qingyue, who still didn’t seem to have any intention of leaving. Yu Wanlai got up, walked to the door, and turned the lights up a few notches.
Yu Qingyue noticed the change, thinking Xu Ran hadn’t left yet. He looked up toward the door. “Didn’t I tell you to go home…?”
Seeing that it was Yu Wanlai, a strange glint flashed in Yu Qingyue’s eyes. “It’s you…”
