Yu Wanlai clicked his tongue lightly. He felt like his position was even worse than Assistant Xu’s. The moment Yu Qingyue saw him, his tone dropped considerably.
He responded softly and returned to lie down on the sofa. Half an hour later, Yu Wanlai took a phone call and left. When he returned, he was carrying two cups of milk tea and a few bags of snacks. Ever since Yu Qingyue realized it was Yu Wanlai, he hadn’t looked up or acknowledged him. Yu Wanlai approached, lightly tapped the desk with two fingers, and then placed one cup of milk tea in front of Yu Qingyue.
“Here, have some drink to fill your stomach. You’ve been working all afternoon. Drinking won’t delay your work…” Yu Wanlai added, worried that Yu Qingyue wouldn’t touch his things, “I remember you like sweet things, so you should like this…” He then put two packs of wafers on the table—one chocolate-flavored and the other cheese and sea salt. After that, without expecting a response, he turned around and placed his own cup of milk tea on the coffee table.
He remembered that the male protagonist in the book had started helping manage the family business during his university years. Yu Wanlai calculated that the person in front of him should be about 22 years old. Even though he was young, he handled affairs so calmly, which suggested that he must have worked many overtime hours before.
Yu Qingyue heard his stomach rumble twice, as if urging him to eat. His ears turned slightly red, and after a moment of hesitation, he picked up the straw and pierced the seal. He took a few sips from the cup, feeling the warmth on the outside. The chewy tapioca pearls mixed with the milk and jasmine aroma, filling his mouth. Yu Qingyue’s cheeks moved as he chewed the pearls.
Yu Wanlai heard the sound and looked up to see Yu Qingyue drinking the milk tea obediently. He couldn’t help but feel pleased. See, he wasn’t a bad person. Every time Yu Qingyue was so defensive, it made him feel hurt.
Yu Wanlai’s lips curved into a smile. Yes, this milk tea was really delicious.
When they left the company building, it was nearly 10 PM. The temperature at night wasn’t very low, but there were occasional gusts of wind, making it feel cold. Yu Wanlai tightened his coat and looked at Yu Qingyue. “How are we getting home? The driver must have finished for the day, right?”
Yu Qingyue hummed and took out his phone to call a ride. But just as he was about to do so, Yu Wanlai suddenly stretched his hand out to block the screen. “No need to call a ride. If you don’t want to drive, I’ll drive.”
With that, Yu Wanlai turned and walked toward the parking garage. Yu Qingyue pressed his lips together, suddenly remembering something, and turned to follow Yu Wanlai.
“…When did you get your driver’s license?”
Yu Wanlai’s hurried steps paused for a moment. “What?”
Yu Qingyue rolled his eyes at him, as if already expecting this. Yu Wanlai cleared his throat. Even though he didn’t drive much in the original world, he still had a driver’s license. Who knew this trash villain didn’t have one?
Looking at the motorcycle in front of him, Yu Qingyue really didn’t want to say anything. He turned around and started walking toward where he parked his car. He could drive himself, after all.
Yu Wanlai quickly reached out to stop him and placed a helmet on Yu Qingyue’s head. “Don’t make a fuss. Let’s just use this one. It’s faster, and I’ll let you wear the helmet.”
Yu Qingyue realized only today that he couldn’t outrun Yu Wanlai. He reluctantly sat on the back of the motorcycle. Fortunately, it was late, and if anyone saw them, he would beat up Yu Wanlai.
Yu Wanlai pulled Yu Qingyue’s hands around his waist, but immediately, Yu Qingyue pulled them back. After a couple of tries, Yu Wanlai was irritated. Fine, if he didn’t want to hold on, then he didn’t have to. What was he, a virus? Always avoiding him.
Yu Wanlai turned around, chuckling lightly, and hit the gas. The motorcycle shot forward.
Yu Qingyue was startled, grabbing onto Yu Wanlai’s clothes, not daring to let go until they arrived home.
Yu Wanlai finally felt at ease. He didn’t believe he couldn’t handle this person.
When they arrived home, Yu’s father and mother were already upstairs resting. Only the living room light was still on.
Yu Wanlai: Wow, the son is working overtime until late at night, and the parents are sound asleep until morning! The male protagonist really does make people feel at ease.
Yu Qingyue handed the helmet back to Yu Wanlai and went upstairs. His upper body was protected from the wind by Yu Wanlai, but his lower body was still cold due to the wind. He hadn’t worn long underwear.
Yu Wanlai, holding the helmet, glanced at Yu Qingyue, who looked angry again. He stayed silent for a moment. What on earth was the male protagonist always angry about?
He reached down to touch his stomach. By this time, Wang Ma had already gone to rest, but as the saying goes, food is the most important thing in life. One meal missed makes him feel so hungry.
He rummaged through the fridge, hoping to find something convenient and quick to eat. Yu Wanlai found a pot of beef broth that had been simmered, but after searching for a while, he couldn’t find any fresh noodles. After a brief hesitation, he decisively turned and went to the kitchen, scooping some flour into a bowl and adding water to knead the dough. Half an hour later, steaming hot noodles mixed with the rich and sweet beef broth were portioned into two ceramic bowls. He also fried two soft-boiled eggs in a frying pan and placed them on top of the noodles, which immediately made the dish look appetizing.
Yu Wanlai carried the two bowls on a tray and placed them on the dining table. He glanced up toward the second floor and reluctantly turned to head upstairs. He definitely didn’t feel sympathy for his younger brother; he simply didn’t like eating alone. That’s all.
Knock knock The door was knocked twice. The house was quiet, and the sudden sound of the door knocking felt a little abrupt. After waiting nearly a minute without hearing a response, Yu Wanlai was hesitating whether to open the door and walk in or turn and leave when Yu Qingyue came over to open the door.
The moment he saw the person, Yu Wanlai’s eyes lit up. The person in front of him was wearing the pajamas he had seen a few days ago, but this time, the pattern was of Patrick Star.
Yu Qingyue thought it was his parents calling him, so he opened the door, only to find it was Yu Wanlai, who was smiling smugly, looking especially irritating. Yu Qingyue rolled his eyes and reached out to close the door.
Yu Wanlai immediately blocked the door frame with his hands and feet to prevent Yu Qingyue from closing it. He forced a smile and looked at Yu Qingyue. “Come on, let’s go downstairs to eat.”
As expected, Yu Qingyue immediately responded, “I’m not going. I don’t want to eat.”
That won’t do. He cooked it, after all. He wasn’t a pig who could finish two bowls of noodles. If Yu Qingyue ate them all, he wouldn’t let him sleep tonight. Besides… he still wanted to take a few more looks at his younger brother in those clothes. Indeed, he looked…
Yu Wanlai blinked and looked at Yu Qingyue without speaking but refused to leave. The two of them stood in a standoff for two minutes, and in the end, Yu Qingyue surrendered first.
“Fine, you go out first, I’ll change my clothes…”
“That won’t do. What if you trap me? You can eat in this. It’s just homewear after all.” Yu Wanlai still wanted to take a few more glances. He had taken care of the male protagonist so many times, so this was his reward.
Yu Qingyue followed Yu Wanlai to the stairs, feeling for the first time that he wanted to push the person in front of him down. He was so angry! How could this person be so stubborn and hard to deal with now? He was even more annoying than before!
Every time they passed the place where the dream started, Yu Wanlai felt a sense of survival after disaster. He was dressed neither too early nor too late—everything was just right—though he still occasionally felt threatened with death.
