Yu Wanlai and Xu Ran were walking together. He didn’t dare provoke his “cheap” younger brother now; his expression was too frightening.
“Is this project really that important?” After hearing a few things and piecing together what he saw earlier in the car, he had a rough idea of the situation. But the project amount was in the tens of millions, not exactly a huge project. Since learning about Yu Wanlai’s identity, Xu Ran’s attitude toward him suddenly became much more respectful. “You don’t know, this is the company’s first major step into a new field to build its reputation. The whole company has been working overtime for a month for this project. Originally, your younger brother… Mr. Yu, was determined to win it.”
Yu Wanlai gave Xu Ran an odd look, as if he were looking at a crazy person. “Why are you suddenly calling me ‘sir’? Are you mocking me? Do I look like an old man?”
Xu Ran hesitated, unable to speak. Was this really how a normal person’s brain worked? He waved his hand. “Of course, I didn’t know your identity before.”
Yu Wanlai thought: He seems to be mocking me! He snorted lightly, turned his head, and stopped paying attention to Xu Ran.
Up ahead, Yu Qingyue turned around, first glancing at Yu Wanlai before addressing Xu Ran. “You need to inform everyone, this afternoon the company’s top executives will have a meeting. Also…” Xu Ran quickly took a few steps to catch up with Yu Qingyue, leaving Yu Wanlai behind at a distance.
Yu Qingyue continued giving instructions, his voice cold. “Don’t let anyone mention this matter for now. Check the recent surveillance footage and internal network of the company. Investigate anything suspicious…” His voice sounded particularly gritted. “Including Yu Wanlai!”
Xu Ran turned back to look at Yu Wanlai and unintentionally met his gaze. Xu Ran quickly turned back forward. The rich circles are really messy.
Yu Wanlai muttered, “What’s he looking at? The leak of the project bid couldn’t have anything to do with me, right? I’m as clean as tofu!” He hurried a few steps, trying to catch up with the two ahead. This was a matter of life and death—it had to be taken seriously.
Just as Yu Wanlai was about to speak, he suddenly saw his “cheap” mother up ahead, talking to someone beside her, and their gestures were very intimate.
Yu Wanlai: Wow… The rich circles really are full of drama!
Clearly, Yu Qingyue also saw the woman ahead.
He withdrew his gaze, his eyes filled with coldness, and a mocking smile appeared on his face. “Yu Wanlai… I think I trusted too much…”
Yu Wanlai was really starting to panic now. He opened his mouth again, intending to explain. But Chu Xu had already walked up to them. She looked at Yu Wanlai, still with that motherly demeanor. “Wanlai, why didn’t you greet your mother when you saw me?” She glanced at the two people next to him, “Come with me, I need to talk to you.”
Yu Wanlai could feel the cold sweat forming on his forehead. He hadn’t done anything wrong, so why was he feeling this anxious now? He opened his mouth, and his tone slightly trembled. “You can say it here!”
Chu Xu reached out and grabbed Yu Wanlai’s shirt, casting a stern look at Yu Qingyue. “No, I said come with me, so come…”
Yu Wanlai was on the verge of tears. He looked at Yu Qingyue, forced a smile, and said, “Then I’ll go over there for a bit~”
Yu Qingyue snorted coldly, his face stiff, too tired to watch the two of them perform in front of him. He simply walked toward the place where their car was parked.
After speaking with Chu Xu, Yu Wanlai returned to the parking spot, but the space where they had parked was already empty. Yu Wanlai stood in the wind, his thoughts more disheveled than they were five minutes ago when Chu Xu had introduced him to his future stepfather. It really was the villain’s momentary thrill, but now he’d have to run for his life to clear his name!
Half an hour later, Yu Wanlai finally returned to the company. He didn’t relax until his card passed through the gate—thankfully, they didn’t try to kick him out immediately. But had the male lead’s impression of the villain already been so bad? The first thing they do when something goes wrong is suspect him?
When he took the elevator upstairs, the 18th floor was completely empty, and not even the assistants were at their desks. His previous relief quickly vanished, and he slouched back in his chair. So now they didn’t even bother to inform him about meetings?
It wasn’t until close to the end of the day that the others returned one by one. Yu Wanlai scanned them and noticed that even the usually lively assistant Xiao Lai had a dejected expression. He recalled that Yu Qingyue had given the project proposal to Xiao Lai to handle, so had Xiao Lai been held accountable?
Assistant Xiao Chen’s face was even paler than paper, while Xu Ran appeared the most composed. Of course, Yu Wanlai felt like he was the most unfortunate, since his “cheap” younger brother was the first to suspect him.
