After work, Yu Wanlai finally found an opportunity to speak with Yu Qingyue, but now this person treated him as if he were invisible.
Yu Wanlai: Really feels like going back to square one. How frustrating! He swore that if he ever took the initiative to approach Yu Qingyue again, he’d be a dog!!! Anyway, since he didn’t do anything wrong, there was nothing they could do to him. After dinner, as expected, Yu Qingyue had just come out of the study when Yu Wanlai was called.
Yu Wanlai pushed open the study door. Yu Cheng was sitting behind the desk, his face not looking particularly good. He looked at Yu Wanlai with a serious expression and a voice full of severity. “I always thought you were just unruly, but now your actions are truly disappointing.”
Yu Wanlai rolled his eyes. He was the one wronged here, yet this huge black mark was so easily placed on him. “If you want to judge me, you should at least find evidence first. If there’s nothing else, I’ll just leave,” he said, placing his hand on the doorknob, ready to leave. Since they had already decided it was him, what was the point in saying more? Some conversations were doomed to have no good outcome from the start.
Yu Cheng suddenly stood up, anger in his eyes, his breathing rapid. “Is this how you speak to your father?! Who taught you this? You have no respect for your elders!” As he made the sudden movement, the chair behind him was knocked over, crashing to the floor with a loud noise.
Yu Wanlai jumped in surprise. Just as he was about to turn around, Yu Cheng suddenly slapped him across the face. The sharp sting spread through his right cheek, and Yu Wanlai gritted his teeth, staring at the floor. It took a few minutes before he raised his head. His gaze was calm, like nothing had happened. “Are you done? Can I leave now?”
His tone was questioning, but before the words had fully left his mouth, Yu Wanlai had already pushed the door open and walked out. The door slammed shut behind him, blocking Yu Cheng’s view of him.
Yu Cheng looked down at his slightly trembling hand, still in shock. He hadn’t expected himself to hit Yu Wanlai.
Yu Wanlai wasn’t sure if this was the influence of the plot or if the Yu family’s impression of the original body was really so bad that they could be this quick to place blame on him.
A few days later, after lunch break, Yu Wanlai was holding a cup of coffee he bought downstairs. Just as he was about to exit the elevator, he nearly collided with Assistant Xiao Chen, who was rushing in with his head lowered.
Yu Wanlai quickly sidestepped and turned to look at Xiao Chen. “Where are you going? Carrying so much, are you…?”
Before he could finish his sentence, the elevator door closed again. Xiao Chen kept his head down, holding several bags, not even glancing at Yu Wanlai.
Yu Wanlai took a sip of the coffee and immediately found it too bitter to speak. He frowned and looked at the label on the cup, clicking his tongue. “Got the wrong one!” Who in the world drinks coffee that’s more bitter than life itself?
With a look of disdain, Yu Wanlai tossed the coffee into the corner of the table, leaned back in his chair, and crossed one leg over the other. He took out his phone, ready to play a few rounds of racing.
The game was in full swing, and he was about to cross the finish line when a hand suddenly appeared in front of his face, blocking his view.
He clicked his tongue, moving the screen back to his eyes, and said impatiently, “Who is it? Don’t you know you can’t interrupt someone who’s playing a game?”
Yu Qingyue was frustrated, ready to turn and leave, but then he remembered that it was his fault. He paused for a few seconds and took a few deep breaths. “…”
Yu Wanlai clicked his tongue again, just crossing the finish line in second place. “I said, can you stop standing next to me? Bro, your breathing is really loud, do you know that?”
He raised his head to look at the person, and when he saw who it was, his gaze flickered for a moment. Then his eyes refocused on the screen showing the results. “It’s you. It’s still lunch break. What’s the problem with me playing on my phone?”
Yu Qingyue was speechless, looking down at Yu Wanlai’s dark head, pressing his lips together. He placed the milk tea he was holding on the table in front of him and, without saying a word, turned to leave.
Yu Wanlai noticed the movement out of the corner of his eye. He reached out, picked up the cup, and raised it in front of Yu Qingyue, saying without lifting his head, “What’s this? Take it away.”
Yu Qingyue turned around to look at Yu Wanlai’s head again, his face reddening with anger. “It’s for you! If you’re not going to drink it, just throw it away!” He quickly said this and proceeded straight to his office. On his way, he accidentally bumped into the corner of the desk, making a loud “bang.” He looked back, but the person was still sitting in their seat, unmoved. He reached out and shut the office door behind him, holding his hand and sitting back down in his chair. His eyes seemed a little sour; he knew he had misunderstood, but there was no need for the other person to be so harsh with him.
Outside, Yu Wanlai stared at the milk tea in his hand, not moving for a long time. It wasn’t until Xiao Lai, who had just returned from lunch, came over. Her hand reached for the milk tea, her face lighting up with joy. “Wow, milk tea! Is this for me? And it’s still warm! Thank you, thank you!”
Yu Wanlai: … He quickly pulled his hand back and placed the milk tea on the side of his desk, preventing Xiao Lai from grabbing it. “Go, go, go, who gave this to you?”
Xiao Lai lowered her hand in disappointment, letting out a little “ah,” and said, “If you’re not going to give it to me, why hang it in front of me?”
Yu Wanlai laughed in frustration. “This path is only for you to walk?” He said, pulling out his phone and ordering another milk tea. “Fine, I’ve already ordered one for you. Can you leave now?”
Xiao Lai grinned. “No need to be polite, I’ll have this one…”
She started to walk behind Yu Wanlai’s chair to get the milk tea. Yu Wanlai quickly rolled up the papers on the table to block her hand. “Don’t touch this!” This was the first time his little brother had given him something. How could he give it to someone else?
Xiao Lai reluctantly withdrew her hand, her eyes darting around playfully. “It’s that precious? Who gave it to you? Your girlfriend?”
Yu Wanlai gave her a disdainful look and waved his hand. “What are you saying? Go play somewhere else.” He thought, if I told you, it would probably scare you. He didn’t forget that someone was shaking like a leaf yesterday.
After a moment, he seemed to remember something. He suddenly looked toward the desk next to Xiao Lai, knocked on the partition to get her attention. “Do you know what’s going on with Xiao Chen?”
Xiao Lai then turned to look at the desk next to hers and exclaimed, “Wow, what’s going on?! Where did all her things go?”
Yu Wanlai covered his forehead, not wanting to look. Was this girl’s nerve really that thick? No wonder the male lead suddenly brought him milk tea. It turned out that the traitor had been caught. He clicked his tongue and grabbed the milk tea to take a big sip. Well, this was what he deserved.
After work in the afternoon, Yu Wanlai waited by the elevator. When he saw Yu Qingyue coming, he immediately pressed the button for the elevator. He was still a bit angry, but since he was currently in a weaker position, he had to assess the situation clearly. He needed to take advantage of the guilt while it lasted and get some benefits for himself.
“Not working overtime today? Little brother~” Yu Qingyue glanced at Yu Wanlai before looking away. He entered the elevator, and Yu Wanlai followed him in. Yu Qingyue took a few steps back, deliberately making room for Yu Wanlai. His lips were slightly pressed together, his face not as cold as before, but still far from being warm.
