Her wrist instantly throbbed with pain. Looking at the person who had appeared, she screamed, “Ah… it hurts! Who are you… No matter who you are, I advise you to let go of me now!”
Yu Qingyue forcefully swung Xu Qing’s wrist back, then released it. Xu Qing staggered back a few steps and took some time to steady herself. Yu Qingyue took out a silk handkerchief and leisurely wiped his fingers, looking disgusted, as if he had touched something filthy. He slowly spoke, his voice tinged with coldness: “I believe your father would know who I am, but I didn’t realize the Yu family needs someone like you to lend a hand.”
Yu Wanlai looked at Yu Qingyue, who had suddenly appeared, in surprise. Was he being saved by a hero? Although he didn’t feel like he was cornered, it was such a strange feeling… But these melodramatic lines… Are all rich family stories this… this awkward? Yu Wanlai’s ears involuntarily turned slightly pink.
Xu Qing rolled her eyes and looked at the two of them, “What Yu family? I don’t know…”
Suddenly, a collective gasp came from around them. Was this woman crazy?! She felt a bit nervous, taking a few steps back and looking at the two of them, “Then let today’s incident go…” She then thought about the type of high-status people who worked here, calming herself. She looked at Yu Wanlai again, handing him a business card with a look of disdain: “Take it. If you need anything in the future, you can contact me again!”
Yu Qingyue raised his hand and slapped the business card out of her hand with a gaze filled with coldness. He stepped forward, just about to speak, but was interrupted by a hand that suddenly draped over his shoulder. Yu Wanlai didn’t even look at the woman, only grinning at Yu Qingyue: “Ah, little brother has grown up, now protecting big brother, huh?” He reached out with the other hand, trying to touch Yu Qingyue’s face, but Yu Qingyue slapped it away without mercy, tossing the hand off his shoulder as well.
Yu Qingyue turned to look at Yu Wanlai, his face full of impatience: “Is this your new trick? Trying to act pitiful or attract attention? How embarrassing…”
Xu Qing heard their conversation and, after a moment, seemed to finally understand something. She gave them both an eye roll and muttered as she walked towards the restaurant door: “What’s this! After all that, turns out they’re just two damn fags!”
Yu Wanlai immediately turned his head to look at Xu Qing, his face a mix of shock and humiliation. He stepped forward, about to argue: “What did you just say? Say it again…”
Yu Qingyue raised two fingers and grabbed Yu Wanlai by the collar, pulling him back with force, “You ruined my meal. I don’t care what you want to do, but you better stop now, or just go home if you don’t have anything else to do!”
Yu Wanlai was suddenly choked, coughing a few times, his face turning red. When he looked up again, Xu Qing had already walked far away.
He stared at Yu Qingyue, “Didn’t you hear what she said? Didn’t you just…”
It was already quite an effort for Yu Qingyue to come down from the second floor. He didn’t want to waste time talking to Yu Wanlai. He turned around and started heading upstairs.
Yu Wanlai looked at Yu Qingyue’s departing back and clicked his tongue. This guy really had no manners… Didn’t he know what “fag” meant? No, wait—didn’t he see a lot of guys asking his brother for WeChat earlier? Yu Wanlai was filled with confusion. He then remembered he was still working, so he checked to make sure his clothes weren’t disheveled and walked back to the table with the customers who had requested music. “Hello, may I ask if you’d like to listen to some music now?”
The customers were a man and a woman, probably on a date. The woman looked Yu Wanlai up and down, then covered her mouth and nodded, “Yes! You can play now!”
Yu Wanlai ignored her strange gaze, bowed, and placed his violin on his shoulder to begin playing. The sweet melody spread through the air… Gradually, the attention around him faded until it disappeared entirely, and Yu Wanlai let out a sigh of relief… Today was really lively!
When Yu Wanlai finished work, Yu Qingyue had already left. Yu Wanlai clicked his tongue and changed his clothes in the dressing room. He thought that his little brother might have planned to get closer to him today, but it seemed he was actually embarrassed by him!
When Yu Wanlai returned home, it was already 6:30 PM. He had just stepped onto the stairs when he was called out by Yu Cheng, who was sitting in the living room: “You don’t even greet your family when you get home?”
Yu Wanlai quickly retracted his foot and turned around with a smile on his face: “Hello, Dad… Hello, little brother… Hello, Auntie!” Then, he turned to go upstairs. It would be awkward to sit down and drink tea with the family when they were happily chatting.
Yu Cheng’s voice suddenly became stern: “Why are you in such a hurry to go upstairs? Don’t you want to talk to your family?”
Yu Wanlai: “…”
This was unbelievable! This old man actually wanted to talk to him?! Yu Wanlai glanced at the others, wondering if they were planning to gang up on him. He hadn’t done anything wrong since arriving here.
Although he was extremely uneasy inside, Yu Wanlai could only turn around and walk toward the living room.
He plopped down beside Yu Qingyue, one hand resting on Yu Qingyue’s shoulder, while the other lay on his own lap, crossing his legs in a casual manner, looking completely unserious. Yu Wanlai leaned back against the sofa, staring at the back of Yu Qingyue, as if trying to burn a hole through him with his gaze. If he didn’t let him touch, he just had to do it anyway—blame that little brat! Now, he was being misunderstood about his orientation. Today, even the male waiters had slipped him little notes. How strange, wasn’t this supposed to be a romance novel? Where did all these gay men come from?
Yu Cheng shot Yu Wanlai a glare: “You’re never serious. Look at your little brother, he’s two years younger than you, yet he’s already able to independently manage a company!”
Yu Wanlai nodded nonchalantly, looking like he couldn’t care less: “Yeah, my little brother is amazing!” Of course, he had to say that! This was the male lead! It’s only the villain who would foolishly compare himself to the male lead after eating too much.
Yu Cheng was momentarily taken aback and glared at Yu Wanlai: “Then why don’t you learn from him?”
Yu Wanlai immediately looked confused. No wonder in the original story, the villain was like a cloned sheep, even wearing the same clothes as the male lead—turns out, this kind of behavior was taught by his father!
Yu Wanlai half-heartedly responded: “Okay, okay, I’ll learn!” But he wasn’t going to learn anything—if someone learns, it’s them who’ll be finished. He wasn’t going to.
Yu Cheng, seeing that his son was impervious to reason, didn’t bother with any more preamble and directly said: “Fine, I see you don’t have much going on. Go to the company and have a look. Start from the bottom…”
Yu Wanlai had just put his leg down and was about to take a sip of tea when he nearly spat the water out. He looked up at Yu Cheng, shocked: “What?” I didn’t say I wanted to join the company! Who said that?
Yu Cheng turned his eyes away, barely containing his desire to smack him. “You don’t know anything, so you’ll have to start from the bottom. Don’t look down on entry-level work…”
Yu Wanlai set his cup down, grabbed a tissue to wipe the water off his mouth, and made a pause gesture with his hand.
Yu Qingyue glanced at Yu Wanlai and subtly shifted a little to the side, his face filled with disdain.
Yu Wanlai said, “So you know I don’t know anything, yet you want me to join the company? Am I supposed to be a mascot? Though, with my looks, I wouldn’t mind being a mascot…”
Yu Qingyue couldn’t help but twitch his mouth when he heard that. He looked at Yu Wanlai like he was an idiot.
“I never even went to university. What would I do at the company? I’m not going!”
