After the ceremony, the wedding banquet began.
Qiao Wanqing had to change into a dragon and phoenix gown, go out to toast and welcome guests, and change into a new traditional Chinese makeup, which took over an hour.
By the time the banquet ended, it was already past 3 PM, approaching 4 PM.
Qiao Wanqing quickly sat down on a bench for a short rest, but was soon called to change her outfit and makeup again.
She put on a princess dress and prepared for the evening party…
The most surprising part was the evening banquet.
The banquet was set up by the swimming pool outside the villa.
The scene was adorned with crystal chandeliers and warm-colored LED lights, creating a dreamy canopy, while the area below was decorated with roses, forming a grand and romantic setting reminiscent of a fairy tale world.
The entire wedding venue was filled with a sweet, pink, romantic atmosphere.
It was exhausting, though.
There was also a traditional wedding night prank to deal with, and after that, there were guests to send off.
By the time she could finally remove her makeup and go to bed, she was too tired to move.
Koukou was put to sleep by his grandparents in their room.
Qiao Wanqing was a bit worried that Koukou might wake up and cause a commotion, but she was too exhausted to do anything about it.
She quickly tidied up and lay down, intending to wait for Gu Yanqing to return after arranging the guests.
However, as soon as she touched the bed, she fell into a deep sleep.
So, the wedding night traditions were quite overrated.
The next morning, she woke up around 10 AM, on the first day of their newlywed life.
Qiao Wanqing was awoken by feeling as if something was pressing down on her chest.
She discovered that Gu Yanqing’s hand was resting on her chest, right over her heart.
It was surprising she managed to sleep comfortably at all.
“Hey,” Qiao Wanqing nudged him, “Did Koukou stay with his grandparents last night? Has he come back?”
She had slept so deeply that she had no idea if Koukou had made a fuss or if Madam Gu had brought him back.
Gu Yanqing, who was holding her hand, instinctively adjusted his position: “I don’t think so. I fell asleep last night.”
Qiao Wanqing: “……”
So, both of them were so exhausted that they fell asleep without noticing anything.
Given that the room was quite large and had a suite layout with a separate small living area, they might not have heard anyone knocking on the door.
Imagining Koukou standing at the door with his little pillow, knocking with his small hands and calling out for his parents, while the door remained shut and no one attended to his cries, was quite amusing.
However, Madam Gu and the others wouldn’t let him suffer like that.
“Sleep a bit more,” Gu Yanqing kissed the top of her head and mumbled.
“You sleep. I’ll go check on Koukou.”
Gu Yanqing was even more exhausted than she was these days, and now he finally had a chance to sleep in.
Qiao Wanqing couldn’t bear to disturb him, so she adjusted the thin blanket to keep him comfortable and let him rest a bit longer.
Qiao Wanqing got up, dressed, and went to find Koukou.
In the living room downstairs, Madam Gu, Chu Shishi, Yu Chu, and Lu Yunfei were chatting and having tea.
Koukou wasn’t in sight.
When they saw Qiao Wanqing coming downstairs, they looked at her with teasing eyes.
“……”
It’s not what you think, let me explain!
They really did nothing but sleep last night!
Qiao Wanqing pretended not to notice their looks, greeted them calmly, and asked Madam Gu, “Mom, where’s Koukou?”
“He went to the beach with Yuan Yuan and the others. Come and sit with us.”
Qiao Wanqing walked over and sat next to them, asking, “Was he good last night? Did he cause you and Dad any trouble?”
Madam Gu exchanged glances with the others and smiled, “We were just discussing this. After I gave Koukou a bath last night, I forgot to put a diaper on him, so he wet the bed.”
Qiao Wanqing: “……”
Koukou was still under two years old, so he needed a diaper at night; otherwise, he would wet the bed.
“This little guy, he peed quite a lot. Our mattress is a straw mat, and both Jingzhi and I were sleeping very soundly. We only realized he had wet the bed when we felt the wetness.”
Everyone laughed, and Qiao Wanqing could almost picture the scene of Madam Gu and Grandfather Gu’s bed being soaked with Koukou’s pee, looking bewildered.
Fortunately, Koukou’s pee was back to normal now.
Otherwise, if they had found a bed full of moss later, it would have been quite a shock, and everyone would have thought it was ghostly.
Chu Shishi said, “Last year, Yuan Yuan wet the bed once. I was with Yan… We didn’t know until Yuan Yuan shook me awake and told me it was wet down there.”
Except for Lu Yunfei, everyone present was a mother.
Once they started talking about their kids’ embarrassing moments, they couldn’t stop, and there was no consideration for face.
Qiao Wanqing ended up hearing a lot of embarrassing stories about Gu Yanqing wetting the bed when he was young…
After chatting for a while, Qiao Wanqing went to have breakfast.
When she returned to the living room, she found an unexpected guest.
Since Gu Yanze left their home last time, Qiao Wanqing hadn’t seen him.
The last time he was supposed to come by to deliver some gifts, he wasn’t home; the housekeeper received them.
This man, who should have been facing a family crisis, looked pretty well lately.
He had put on weight and looked like a greasy middle-aged man.
He used to be slim and somewhat handsome, but now he looked quite different.
If he also had a bald spot, it would be the final blow.
People from the Lu family, who might have heard about their family issues, had tactfully left.
Qiao Wanqing knew Madam Gu didn’t want her involved in their matters, so she used the excuse of finding Kouko and left.
Gu Yanze choosing to visit Chu Shishi during their honeymoon probably meant he wasn’t bold enough to confront Madam Gu about divorce or custody issues.
Otherwise, Madam Gu would have beaten him out.
What could he want?
Maybe he suddenly realized he still loved Chu Shishi and wanted to reconcile.
But that seemed unlikely.
Seeing Gu Yanze’s smug appearance, it was clear he was doing well with Jiang Yi.
Qiao Wanqing couldn’t figure it out and didn’t want to waste time guessing, so she went outside to find Kouko and the others.
When she saw Kouko and Yuan Yuan playing outside, instead of running up to her as usual, they quickly ran away.
Qiao Wanqing: “…”
Were they… upset?
Kouko usually avoids her when he’s angry, so seeing him like this, it was probably because he was upset about being “abandoned” by her and Gu Yanqing last night, when they didn’t take him to sleep with them.
Qiao Wanqing smiled helplessly, quickly catching up to him and hugging him.
Kouko covered his face with his hands, so Qiao Wanqing gently removed his hands and asked, “What’s wrong, baby? Are you mad at Mommy?”
Koko turned his back to her and said, “No!”
“Not mad?” Qiao Wanqing turned him around and asked, “Then why won’t you look at Mommy?”
“Kouko… Kouko wet the bed.”
Ah, so he was bothered by that. Qiao Wanqing said, “Mommy knows. Grandma told me this morning.”
“Kouko is embarrassed.”
“…”
This little kid is embarrassed?
Qiao Wanqing thought this child had a thick skin like his father, capable of acting like nothing ever happened.
“It’s not embarrassing,” Qiao Wanqing said as she saw him genuinely covering his face with shyness. “Everyone wets the bed when they’re little. It’s Kouko’s first time, and he’s doing great.”
“Really?”
Qiao Wanqing smiled and pinched his little face. “Yes, even Daddy wet the bed when he was five.”
Hearing that his admirable father also had wet the bed, Kouko immediately felt less embarrassed.
At that moment, Yuan Yuan came over, and Kouko happily told him, “My daddy also wet the bed!”
Qiao Wanqing: “…”
Kouko couldn’t keep secrets.
He’d probably end up telling his grandparents and others about it too.
Ahem.
President Gu, I’m really sorry.
Qiao Wanqing let them continue playing and took out her phone to open Wangwang.
Since she hadn’t had time to check it all day yesterday, there were several customer service issues that had piled up.
She asked the customer service provider to resolve the issues they could and to inform the customers of any problems that couldn’t be resolved until today.
Recently, business in their store had been going well.
Qiao Wanqing noticed from the feedback that several buyers were complaining about the store’s limited selection—only six products available.
They wanted to buy more varieties for snacks, but there were none.
So, Qiao Wanqing decided to increase the number of products in the store.
She planned to visit City C to find a producer of dried fruits and vegetables, hoping to introduce some new products like dehydrated mushrooms, lotus root chips, and dried dates.
After handling a few customer service issues, Qiao Wanqing saw Gu Yanqing coming out of the door.
When he saw her, he walked over.
“Good morning, Mrs. Gu,” Gu Yanqing said deliberately.
“It’s already noon, and you’re still saying ‘morning’?”
Gu Yanqing shamelessly replied, “Can’t help it. I was too busy last night to get up.”
“… Were you using telekinesis?”
“On the first day of marriage, isn’t it supposed to be like this? Even if it wasn’t, we have to pretend it was, or else we’d be laughed at.”
Qiao Wanqing: “…”
“Well,” Qiao Wanqing decided to end this pointless conversation and changed the subject. “What’s Gu Yanze here for?”
“Oh, Jiang Yi is pregnant.”
“What! Pregnant?” Qiao Wanqing was shocked.
In the book, Jiang Yi quickly gave birth to a son after marrying into the Gu family, which cemented the male protagonist’s tragic childhood.
Now, Jiang Yi was pregnant before even entering the Gu family?
This situation was very unfavorable for them.
Gu Yanqing had managed to get in touch with Huang, the head of the reality show, through a friend, aiming to get Jiang Yi onto the show to become famous.
But now, with this pregnancy news, the show was out of the question, and she wouldn’t be able to work for at least a year and a half.
If this continued, it seemed that she’d have to wait for the third season to get on the show and become popular, which would make things tough for Chu Shishi.
“Yeah,” Gu Yanqing said, looking troubled by the topic. “Gu Yanze is now forcing Chu Shishi to divorce him so he can marry Jiang Yi.”
“What does your sister-in-law say?”
“For now, she’s not agreeing to a divorce. What will happen next is…”
Before Gu Yanqing could finish, they heard a furious voice from inside the door: “As long as you still call me ‘uncle,’ you can forget about bringing that woman into the family! Get out!”
Then Gu Yanze walked out with a look of embarrassment.
Qiao Wanqing and Gu Yanqing exchanged glances.
It seemed Gu Yanze’s attempt to marry Jiang Yi wouldn’t be so easy.
Gu Yanze left looking dejected, and Qiao Wanqing saw Yuan Yuan, who had been playing with Kouko, pouting at Gu Yanze but managed to hold back from running over.
In the end, the one who seemed the most pitiful was still Yuan Yuan.
