Chapter 12: A Widow’s Child
Jiang Shaochen nodded, “Yes, come to the wedding banquet to have a drink then.”
Song Wanyin was already unable to accept it.
Now hearing Jiang Shaochen’s affirmative answer, Song Wanyin’s heart ached so much that she couldn’t breathe. “Shaochen, killing someone is nothing more than stabbing their heart. Do you think I would come?”
She had liked Jiang Shaochen for so many years, always following in his footsteps.
She even kept asking her father to support him, to promote him. Wasn’t she doing all this for their future?
Now he was going to marry a widow with a child and even wanted her to come to the wedding banquet.
“Wanyin, I made it very clear to you a long time ago that I only see you as a younger sister…”
“Then why do you want to marry this widow? Is it out of loyalty? Your elder brother is already dead, what does the widow’s life or death have to do with you?”
Song Wanyin didn’t want to listen to Jiang Shaochen’s words.
Jiang Shaochen didn’t want to talk about this matter anymore. “What I want to do is my business. Mom and Dad, it’s windy outside, take the child inside.”
Jiang Guofu and Jiang’s mother didn’t dare to disobey.
They took the child and left.
Song Wanyin felt strange.
Loyalty was understandable, but why were his parents so attentive to a child born to a widow? It was one thing for them to hold the child themselves, but they could even allow their son to marry a widow.
Unless…
“Jiang Shaochen! I don’t agree to this marriage…”
But Jiang Shaochen didn’t listen to her at all.
Jiang Shaochen’s departing figure deeply hurt Song Wanyin.
Song Wanyin pinched her palm, her nails digging in hard.
Ignoring her, wanting to make her a joke, huh?
Okay, Jiang Shaochen, you just wait!
…
Jiang family living room.
Jiang Shaochen instructed Jiang Guofu and Jiang’s mother: “The child is still young, don’t take him out, and don’t show him in front of people.”
Everything would wait until he and Shen Mingzhi had filed their marriage report, and the child was a few months older.
“Second brother! Sister Wanyin likes you so much, and she’s so good to you and our Jiang family, how could you upset her like that?” Jiang Yinyin’s voice came from the side.
Jiang Shaochen turned his head and saw Jiang Yinyin with a sullen face.
His face darkened, his voice filled with anger: “You like her so much, then you marry her! Who I like and who I marry, when did it become your turn to talk about and arrange?!”
Clearly, she was the one who had brought Song Wanyin here.
Jiang Yinyin didn’t expect Jiang Shaochen to scold her like this. After so many years of brother-sisterhood, she was completely considering his well-being when she went to find Song Wanyin.
Not only was he unappreciative, but he even told her to get lost?
Jiang Yinyin was furious: “Jiang Shaochen, I’m doing this for your own good. No matter what happened before, Shen Mingzhi is just a widow! You can deal with a phoenix, why would you want a snake or a rat…”
“Shut up!”
Jiang Shaochen sternly interrupted her: “Jiang Yinyin, I’m warning you, this is the last time. If I ever hear you say these things again, or you make any small moves, see how I deal with you!”
Jiang Yinyin ran out the door in anger.
Jiang’s mother was very unhappy at this moment. “Although your sister is spoiled, some of the things she said weren’t without reason. Moreover, our feud with the Song family isn’t good for your father and you in the organization. It’s not worth doing this for her.”
Jiang Shaochen: “It may not seem worth it now, but if people find out later, the rumors will be even worse. Besides, I’ve confirmed that the child is mine, I can’t abandon her, I can’t do it!”
After speaking, Jiang Shaochen carried his things upstairs.
He entered the room and found Shen Mingzhi packing her things.
“What are you doing?” Jiang Shaochen stepped forward, frowning as he asked.
Although he had that one night with her, Shen Mingzhi was, after all, a stranger he had only met once.
He felt more guilt towards her, which was why he wanted to take responsibility for her and the child.
But now she was suddenly packing her things to leave, which made him a little angry that she wasn’t following his arrangements.
Shen Mingzhi seemed very serious. “Actually, my decision to leave was made after careful consideration. I don’t think a fake marriage is a good idea, it’s easy for things to go wrong. Your Jiang family is a lifesaver to me and my child. It’s precisely because I remember this kindness that I shouldn’t stay here and make things difficult for you.”
She paused, revealing a very gentle smile. “Moreover, I can see that Miss Song really likes you. I would feel guilty if I ruined things for you.”
Shen Mingzhi, having lived two lifetimes, had never seen a man with better conditions than him.
He had looks, he had a figure, and he also had the responsibility of a soldier. He was hard to find even with a lantern.
But just because he was good didn’t mean she should cling to him and cause trouble for him.
Jiang Shaochen was stunned by her words. Facing her lack of selfishness and her smile of blessing, Jiang Shaochen suddenly felt a tightness in his chest.
Clearly, he was the one who had wronged her, but she was full of apologies to him.
Shen Mingzhi remembered the Jiang family’s kindness, but she didn’t know that he was the one who had truly bullied her.
He kept saying that he would marry her, treat her as a daughter-in-law of the Jiang family, and give her a good life, but he had never thought about getting to know her as a person.
Although she hadn’t studied much, she was a sensible and kind woman who always thought of others.
Bringing Zhang Ping’s letter to the Jiang family was probably something she only did because she was truly desperate.
Thinking of this, Jiang Shaochen’s gaze towards Shen Mingzhi became serious. “I don’t like Song Wanyin. I want to have a good life with you. I will treat both children as my own. You said we can get the certificate first, that’s fine, I’ll listen to you, okay?”
His sudden seriousness made Shen Mingzhi’s heart skip a beat, and she subconsciously wanted to refuse him. “I really…”
Jiang Shaochen interrupted Shen Mingzhi, who was still trying to persuade him. “I’m also serious.”
At this moment, he sincerely wanted to understand her, to treat her as a wife he respected and loved, not just to take responsibility for her and the child because of that one night.
Shen Mingzhi blinked her eyes, feeling that his gaze was a little too affectionate.
Where did his inexplicable feelings come from?
Jiang Shaochen stopped dwelling on this matter and actively took out the clothes he had bought for Shen Mingzhi to see. “I bought you two outfits, see if you like them.”
Floral shirt, a symbol of the 1980s.
Shen Mingzhi looked at him, pondered for a while, and nodded gently: “I like them, thank you.”
Seeing that she wasn’t very enthusiastic, Jiang Shaochen knew that she definitely couldn’t accept him for the time being, so his tone became more polite and proper. “You’re welcome, we’re a family, it’s only right that I buy you things.”
Jiang Shaochen’s words made Shen Mingzhi a little at a loss.
After being single for so many years, it was the first time a man had given her clothes and said these things to her.
And it was Jiang Shaochen, a man who was so good-looking.
She also knew that people in this era were very pure in their feelings. But why would he waste his time on her when he had such a good future?
Shen Mingzhi was silent for a moment, then asked him, “Is it because I’m good-looking that you’re planning to marry me, a widow?”
Jiang Shaochen couldn’t help but chuckle at her words. “Isn’t Song Wanyin pretty?”
Shen Mingzhi thought that was true. Song Wanyin was young and beautiful, and she was still a single girl… If it was really because of appearance, choosing her would be much easier.
She didn’t speak, and Jiang Shaochen realized that mentioning Song Wanyin was inappropriate.
