Chapter 13
After gradually adapting to the luxurious life of the wealthy family, Sheng Xia completely let loose and immersed herself in the gaming zone, unwilling to come out.
Initially, the system would constantly nag about tasks, reminding her the time regularly, being diligent and dedicated. Until one time, watching Sheng Xia playing a shooting game without noticing an enemy aiming at her, the system couldn’t help but nervously interject: “Host, host, at your three o’clock direction, there’s an enemy ambush, be careful!”
—Bang!
Sheng Xia casually returned fire, directly eliminating the enemy. The cool and handsome posture made even the usually restrained and polite system couldn’t contain its excitement and bounced a bit.
Ah, ah, ah, the host won! That’s so cool!
“System, you’re amazing. With you around, I really feel super safe!”
“System, quickly check if there’s anything else to be aware of?”
“Awesome, System! Our teamwork is indeed the best!”
So, amidst Sheng Xia’s sweet words like “System” on the left and “System” on the right, the system was dizzy and inexplicably immersed in the wonderful gaming world together with the host.
System: “Left, left, at nine o’clock direction, host, quick, shoot! Yes, right there, charge!”
Sheng Xia: Bang, bang, bang!
Sheng Xia: Watch me, I’m jumping over there!
System: “Charge, charge! Get him!”
Thanks to the absence of an anti-addiction mechanism, both the individual and the system were completely addicted to the game with the guidance of the system, and Sheng Xia was crazily ranking up, experiencing unparalleled joy.
If it weren’t for a sudden call from Sheng Lanqiu, the system might have completely forgotten about the mission.
“Sister, is your leg better now?”
Sheng Lanqiu’s concerned voice came from the other end of the phone: “It’s been a month, and you haven’t called home. Mom and Dad are a bit worried about you, so they asked me to call and check on you.”
Sheng Xia, in the midst of arguing with the system over a cooperative game, casually put her phone aside, still playing the game with her hands, and absentmindedly responded, “Oh, really?”
“Is sister blaming Dad for not calling you? But it’s not really their fault either. Dad is just afraid of making you angry, like before, always making him seek justice from your brother-in-law.”
Sheng Lanqiu sighed, gently explaining, “Sis, you know our family and the Feng family are still not on good terms. When you married into that family, it caused some trouble… Going to your brother-in-law directly would make things worse. Dad just can’t do something so unreasonable.”
“Uh-huh, then what?”
“During this time, since you haven’t called home, have you already adapted? I knew it! My brother-in-law still cares about you. Not being home is probably just because of work, not because there’s someone else in his heart, right?”
“Ah, right, right, right.”
Sheng Lanqiu: “…”
Finally realizing something was off, she asked tentatively, “Hmm, Sister, Are you listening to me.?”
Sheng Xia: “6”
Sheng Lanqiu: “…”
Her forehead veins throbbed, gripping the phone tightly, her chest heaving with anger. Through gritted teeth, she asked, “Sis, I’m seriously talking to you. What are you doing over there?”
This collaboration finally passed, and things got back on track with the system. Sheng Xia sighed in relief and lazily picked up her phone, “Ah, what were you saying just now?”
She really hadn’t been listening at all!
Sheng Lanqiu felt a surge of frustration, barely holding back her intense expression. She didn’t bother with pleasantries and directly stated her purpose, “I was thinking the kids haven’t met yet. A new children’s playground opened in the city recently, and tomorrow is weekend. How about we take the kids there together?”
“I’m still crippled in my leg, not in the mood—”
[System: Wait, host, this is the plot twist—!!]
The system’s suddenly awakened, desperate voice almost made Sheng Xia bite her tongue. She quickly changed her tone, “Well, it’s not impossible. Where should we meet?”
Her dream was indeed accurate; Sheng Xia actually agreed!
Knowing Sheng Xia’s twisted personality with a strong sense of pride, Sheng Lanqiu was initially worried she might refuse to go out because of the wheelchair. Unexpectedly, this invitation went so smoothly.
Sheng Lanqiu’s eyes lit up, afraid she might change her mind, quickly gave the location, and after setting the time, She immediately hung up the phone.
While she was rejoicing, little did she know that the system on the other side also breathed a sigh of relief.
[Scared me! This is a plot, just a little more— if we had really refused to go, we would definitely be punished.]
The system said anxiously, with a tone full of regret and guilt: [It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have been addicted to the game and should have stopped the host in time. I almost let the host face severe punishment… I’m truly sorry, and I will write a review and repent.]
Sheng Xia: ? No need for that.
“We haven’t delayed any tasks recently, and the plot has just started, right?”
“And look, the kids are in school, my younger brother is at work, and my eldest son, although on home is resting and mostly holed up in the practice room. We hardly see him except during meal times.” Sheng Xia comforted with emphasis, “Even if we are supposed to complete a mission, we should also have our own leisure time, right?”
The system began to waver: [But—]
“Even if we need to complete a mission, we also need our own rest time.” Sheng Xia
Suddenly tilting backward, with a surprised tone, “Come on, the game is so much fun. How can you bear not playing?”
System: [Well, shall we play another round?]
Sheng Xia raised her lips.
Hey, isn’t this very effective?
At nine o’clock the next day, Sheng Xia, with a tired face, controlled the wheelchair to come out of the elevator.
She had stayed up too late playing games last night. If it weren’t for the system holding a loudspeaker, continuously buzzing in her mind, she might have really ignored Sheng Lanqiu.
And the twin siblings, sitting obediently on the sofa, the moment they saw her, their eyes instantly sparkled.
“Xia Xia is up!”
Feng Xuchen immediately jumped off the sofa, like a curly-haired puppy, rushed into Sheng Xia’s arms, and looked up at her with a sweet smile. ” Xia Xia, where are we going to play today?”
After being educated by the butler earlier, the twins knew they couldn’t call her “wicked stepmother.” However, the two children still hesitated to call her “mom” and started calling her by different names.
For example, Feng Xuchen inexplicably started calling Sheng Xia ” Xia Xia ” and stubbornly refused to change it, no matter how others tried to persuade him.
Sheng Xia lifted the small dog trying to climb up into her arms, glanced at Feng Xuran still sitting on the sofa, and asked, “Not in a hurry. Have you had breakfast?”
Feng Xuran finally couldn’t hold back, turned sideways, leaned on the sofa armrest, and hummed impatiently, “You woke up too late. We’ve already had breakfast.”
Feng Xuchen nodded vigorously, and his curled black fur bobbed up and down, “We had breakfast at seven. We’ve been waiting for you for a long time, Xia Xia.”
Sheng Xia nodded and, as the maid pushed her towards the dining room, also lifted the sulking little pufferfish on the sofa into her arms, “Then eat with me.”
As if in the blink of an eye, Feng Xuran didn’t know what had happened; she found himself in Sheng Xia’s soft embrace. She was stunned for a moment, and before he could struggle, her face turned red.
Is this what my brother described… like Mom’s embrace? Warm and soft, with a faint scent of peaches, so familiar, is it the smell of shampoo?
As she was feeling conflicted, she lifted her head only to find that they had already arrived at the dining room. Feeling embarrassed to meet her brother’s gaze, she subconsciously buried her face in Sheng Xia’s neck, pretending to be dead with her eyes closed.
Breakfast was a Cantonese dim sum ordered by Sheng Xia the night before.
Har Gow with shrimp and red rice sausage, steamed dumplings with shrimp and crab roe, steamed phoenix claws with lily sauce, pineapple buns with flaky crust, durian swan pastries… and a bowl of smooth and thick boat congee.
Sheng Xia was particularly fair, not neglecting any of the dim sum, and enjoyed the breakfast with great satisfaction.
Indeed, a delicious day starts with a beautiful breakfast.
Seeing her enjoying the food so much, the two children couldn’t resist joining in for another round until their bellies were round and it was time to set off. They still lay in Sheng Xia’s arms, making discontented sounds with wrinkled faces.
They were so full that they felt like they were going to vomit.
As soon as Feng Jingxu came downstairs, he witnessed this scene and couldn’t help but stop in his tracks, “I mean, is the Feng family mistreating you guys?”
Why are both of them learning from Sheng Xia, like they’ve been reborn hungry ghosts?
