Chapter 33
After the recording of the first episode, it happened to be the time for Sheng Xia and Feng Jingxu to go to the hospital for a follow-up checkup. Concerned about the two of them, Feng Shaoyu agreed to accompany them. However, when he mentioned this to Feng Yan, he saw him pause, then coldly ask, “Which hospital, and what time?”
Feng Shaoyu didn’t think much of it and told him directly.
Feng Yan seemed to ask casually, nodded when he got the answer, then lowered his head to continue working, not paying any more attention.
However, on that evening, Feng Shaoyu was suddenly informed that he had to sign an important contract the next day, and Feng Yan had to attend an event, so he had to go.
Feng Shaoyu was stunned, “…” Wait, isn’t tomorrow a day off?
But such things couldn’t be declined. Feng Shaoyu could only reluctantly accept the task, and while everyone was gathered for dinner, he apologized to the two of them with embarrassment.
Knowing that his work was more important, Sheng Xia didn’t make it difficult for him. She just pretended to cover her heart and sighed softly, “It seems that the timing for our check-up is unfortunate. He just said he would accompany us, but now he has to leave us and go to work. If I had known earlier, I would have been better off not agreeing, so I wouldn’t have appeared so pitiful.”
Feng Shaoyu raised his hands in surrender, “Sister-in-law, I’m sorry, but I really didn’t do it on purpose. How about this, I’ll come back to pick you up as soon as I finish signing the contract!”
“I understand, work is important—”
Before Sheng Xia could finish her sentence with a tone of grievance, Feng Yan, who was beside her, said indifferently, “There’s a last-minute change over there, and the time they’re asking for is quite urgent. You need to confirm carefully, as it may take a bit longer than expected. Don’t casually promise things you’re not sure about, as it will delay their check-up time.”
Sheng Xia turned her head and looked at the serious man, slightly squinting her eyes.
Why did she feel like he said that on purpose? Was it an illusion?
Feng Shaoyu’s expression immediately became serious, and he touched his nose somewhat embarrassedly, “I understand, Second Brother.”
“Just the person who almost made a mistake earlier, should put more effort into work to make up for the mistake, or else wait to be scolded?” Feng Jingxu passed a gloating look, indifferent, “It’s just a check-up, with her driving that two-wheeled vehicle faster than anyone, what could happen? Tomorrow, I’ll push her there myself, no need for you guys to accompany.”
Feng Shaoyu knocked his head impatiently, “I get it, just keep quiet for a bit, or else I’ll have Zhao accompany you guys.”
The butler was about to smile and agree, but was rejected by Sheng Xia shaking her head. Then she smiled and propped her chin up, pinched her throat sweetly, and asked, “Honey, do you have any plans for tomorrow?”
Feng Yan’s movement paused slightly, he raised his head and calmly said, “I need to attend an event, it should be over before noon, why?”
“Is it very important?”
The man seemed to ponder for a moment, and replied slowly, “It depends on the specific nature. It could be considered very important, or not important at all.”
Sheng Xia long “oh” sound, very studious humbly asked, “So, how do you determine if it’s important or not important?”
Feng Yan was vague, “Compared to more important matters, the event naturally seems unimportant.”
“Mr. Feng, do you think… accompanying your wife and child to the hospital for a check-up is more important or not important compared to the event?”
Seeing the man pondering, Sheng Xia immediately sounded a bit weary, “Well, no need to answer, I already know the answer.”
She skillfully took a tissue and wiped her eyes, her eyebrows and eyes showing a pitiful look, “I knew I wouldn’t be so lucky, not as good as the sense of achievement your work brings you. I’m just a useless person.”
Listening to her resentful voice, Feng Jingxu couldn’t help but tremble, and the chopsticks fell into the bowl. Even after so long, he still couldn’t get used to Sheng Xia’s acting at any time, and he felt goosebumps all over.
However, Feng Yan remained unchanged, just raised an eyebrow slightly, with a teasing tone, “I seem to haven’t answered yet, Mrs. Feng.”
“Have you smelled it?”
When he heard her nonsensical question, the man cautiously did not answer.
“Ah, the air is filled with the “ I don’t care smell “, all because of your silence for such a short time! Didn’t it show your attitude early on?!”
Sheng Xia gently covered her heart, looking pained, “I really can’t imagine what could make you coldly watch your beautiful and weak wife who can’t take care of herself and your son with a missing brainstem go to the hospital by themselves. How can you be so cold and unreasonable?”
“ The son with a missing brainstem? What are you talking about? Why am I not Informed? “Feng Jingxu thought
The man, who was cold, unfeeling, and unreasonable, remained unmoved after receiving such accusations. He forcibly suppressed the smile at the corner of his lips and nodded slightly as if neither confirming nor denying, “I understand.”
Sheng Xia: ?
She waited for a while but still didn’t hear him say anything else. Realizing that he had no intention of speaking further, Sheng Xia pursed her light pink lips in annoyance and couldn’t help but hum in frustration, “Oh, I see, you’re still a master of perfunctory, evading the question with ease.”
“Sigh, I knew it. With my weak body like this, I don’t deserve to ask Mr. Feng to give up work to accompany me.”
It was the first time Sheng Xia had been so defeated, and Feng Jingxu suddenly felt a surge of pride. Though he didn’t dare to show it,
He felt a bit too pleased with her misfortune, but his eyes couldn’t help but light up strangely.
This woman has her punishment today, haha!
Sure enough, even if he couldn’t deal with her, there would always be someone to punish her for her mouth!!
Feeling secretly pleased, the eldest son suddenly met Sheng Xia’s glance, which was full of inexplicable meaning.
Somehow, he shivered and subconsciously looked away, his heart beating irregularly.
Feng Jingxu: …Damn, this instinctive reaction is annoying!!
Meanwhile, Feng Xuchen, who was originally eating seriously, looked around, not knowing what he had understood. He suddenly jumped off his chair and ran to Sheng Xia’s side, glaring at Feng Yan with his grape-like eyes, “Daddy, don’t bully Xia Xia!”
Feng Xuran followed and pulled his younger brother, shaking his head disapprovingly, “Daddy has to work, Xuchen, you shouldn’t say that.”
Although it seemed like she was speaking up for Feng Yan, she completely ignored him, holding Sheng Xia’s finger with her small hand, solemnly assuring her, “They can’t accompany you, but Xuchen and I can. Mommy, don’t be sad.”
“Wu wu, it’s true that the babies are the most reliable.”
The little ones were really sweet, and Sheng Xia couldn’t help but playfully rub each of them. Perhaps out of comfort, even Feng Xuran, who always felt sulky when her head was rubbed, obediently allowed her to tease him this time.
Especially when they heard Sheng Xia call them “babies,” the two little ones couldn’t help but blush shyly and bury their faces in her arms.
So, in the comfort of the twins and the flattering smile of Feng Shaoyu, Sheng Xia finally let it go, “Forget it, I know you’re all busy, so busy. Work is important, it’s okay to be busy.”
Although her tone was light and airy, it contained a bit of a strange personal grudge.
Feng Yan seemed to not have noticed at all, showing no reaction. When no one was paying attention, he slightly lowered his eyelids, concealing the smile that flashed in his dark eyes.
The next morning.
Sheng Xia vaguely heard the sound of her phone ringing, but after struggling a few times, she couldn’t open her eyes.
Since she couldn’t wake up no matter how hard she tried, even though she knew the ringtone would stop and start again, she simply buried herself in the blanket, pretending not to hear it.
After a while, the ringtone did stop. She fluttered her eyelashes, feeling content, and was about to continue sleeping when the knocking on the door persistently resumed.
Sheng Xia: …Help.
“Xia Xia, it’s late. Time to get up.”
Seeing that it was almost ten o’clock, Feng Yan lightly knocked on the door, calmly saying from outside, “If you don’t wake up, I’m coming in.”
After patiently waiting for a while, he finally heard a faint voice from inside, “Then come in.”
Thinking about how many times Sheng Xia would curse him in her heart right now, Feng Yan shook his head with a smile, pushed the door open, and saw her reluctantly poking her head out of the covers. Her delicate face had a peachy blush, and her black eyes were misty with sleepiness. “Weren’t you supposed to go to an event? Why are you here bothering me?”
The man wore a simple light-colored shirt today, and as usual, the buttons were meticulously fastened up to the collar, outlining his slender and upright figure, broad shoulders, long legs, and narrow waist. He chose a low-key navy blue tie, and the slightly protruding Adam’s apple gave off a cold, lazy sense of restraint, making it hard for people to look away.
As Sheng Xia unconsciously stared at his Adam’s apple, she heard Feng Yan’s calm voice, “I turned it down because I had to accompany my beautiful and weak wife who can’t take care of herself to the hospital.”
He looked down at her, his black eyes deep, “Isn’t this what Xia Xia asked for yesterday?”
Sheng Xia raised an eyebrow, finally showing some spirit as she sat up, casually tidying her slightly messy hair, “I thought you were rejecting yesterday, after all, the event is more important than us, right?”
“I said it depends on what it’s compared to. No matter what work, it’s naturally not as important as accompanying my wife and son.” Feng Yan’s tone was calm, with a hint of meaning, “Otherwise, wouldn’t I really be cold, unfeeling, and unreasonable?”
Sheng Xia narrowed her beautiful eyes slightly.
Every time she saw the man’s calm appearance as if nothing could move him, she couldn’t help but feel a bit mischievous in his words.
So, when he lowered his gaze, she indulged in her restless impulse and suddenly reached out to grab the navy blue tie that was swinging in front of her, with a strong presence.
She gave it a hard tug.
Feng Yan was caught off guard and bent down. He met Sheng Xia’s bright and cunning eyes, full of unabashed mischief. He could almost feel her warm breath.
Before he could move back, Sheng Xia’s other hand followed the loosened tie and climbed up, her pink fingertips lightly touching his protruding Adam’s apple, giving it a gentle press.
Wow, it actually slides back and forth.
There was a momentary silence in the man’s breath, but he quickly reacted, raising his hand to hold down her restless fingers. After a slight pause, he gently returned her hand.
His eyes were deep, his voice gentle with a hint of coaxing, “This habit isn’t very good, Xia Xia.”
“Honey, don’t you know that the morning is the most impulsive time?” Sheng Xia blinked innocently, blaming him with confidence, “Who made Mr. Feng so charming? Knowing that I have weak self-control, yet you keep swaying in front of me, it’s hard for me to resist.”
Finally breaking through his mask, Sheng Xia finally felt satisfied, teasing him and then stopping. So she pretended not to see Feng Yan’s even more ambiguous expression.
She weakly cleared her throat and pretended, “Oh, it’s already this late, I should…”
But before she could finish her sentence, her body suddenly lost balance and Feng Yan’s hand grabbed her waist, lifting her onto the wheelchair. The whole process took only a few seconds, a seamless action.
Not reacting for a moment, Sheng Xia instinctively grabbed Feng Yan’s arm, looked up at him, and widened her eyes unconsciously.
“It’s indeed late. If we don’t tidy up now, we can only go in the afternoon.” Feng Yan’s voice was calm, but you could hear the pleasure in his tone. “Do you need me to push you to the bathroom, Xia Xia?”
So… was what just happened his revenge?
Tsk, it was just a touch on the Adam’s apple. Wuu, men can be so petty.
Sheng Xia narrowed her eyes slightly, her eyes twinkling. Suddenly, she showed a look of admiration. “Wow, honey, you just lifted me with one hand. You’re really strong! I didn’t expect you to still have this much strength at your age.”
But then she became worried, “But in the future, you should be more careful. Don’t just use one hand to show off. It’s one thing to strain your waist, but what if you accidentally drop your beautiful and weak wife?”
Feng Yan looked at her for a moment and said lightly, “Xia Xia, you may have a misunderstanding about my age. I’m only six years older than you, so I probably won’t have issues with straining my waist.”
“I understand, but people say that men become feeble after forty.” Sheng Xia looked caring, “Although you’re only thirty, rounding it up is almost there, so you should pay more attention to your health and not overexert yourself.”
“After forty, stay away from the world and everything will go smoothly in the rest of your life. So don’t get angry, after all, no one can replace you if you get sick.”
With these words of advice, Sheng Xia zoomed off with the wheelchair, faster than anyone else.
Feng Yan: …
