Chapter 4
“Madam, Third Young Master, Master Jingxu.”
Amidst the unified greetings of the servants, Sheng Xia was pushed into the elevator. To facilitate her movement, an elevator had been urgently installed in the villa, and the entire fourth floor belonged to her private space.
Feng Shaoyu and Feng Jingxu needed to return to their rooms to rest, so Sheng Xia dismissed the maid who wanted to follow and pushed the wheelchair herself, eagerly exploring her own territory.
Passing through long corridors, there were a study, a reading room, a massage room, a viewing area, an entertainment area… and a luxurious walk-in closet connected through several rooms. The European-style modern design inside matched the external decor, displaying extravagance.
These areas for her enjoyment had never been touched by the original owner. If not for the daily cleaning by the servants, they might have been covered in dust.
Thinking about this, Sheng Xia couldn’t help but cover her chest in pain: “The original owner didn’t appreciate all this, let me do it! Let me do it! Let me enjoy this lonely, echoing, and somewhat ostentatious life of a rich woman!”
In such a heavenly life, who would want to go back to being a zombie queen in the apocalypse? Not even dogs would!
System: [….] You didn’t say that when you were threatening me in the beginning.
Well, women.
Although she was complaining like this, seeing Sheng Xia eager to enter the entertainment area, the system quickly stopped her: [Host, shouldn’t you first observe your children for future plans?]
Sheng Xia, with a pained expression, said, “But I haven’t played games in a long time.”
—In the apocalypse, you could only play zombie games, and one small mistake could cost your life.
Unmoved by the system’s words, she continued: [They are playing sandbox block games on the first floor. You can join them if you’re interested.]
Sheng Xia’s eyes lit up, and she decisively entered the elevator: “Well, why not?”
System: [….?]
On the first-floor game room, a sandbox resembling a small desert was embedded in the center. Various exquisite and realistic toy models were scattered around, making it look spectacular.
Two children were kneeling in the sand, earnestly building a castle with building blocks.
As if hearing a noise, they suddenly looked up.
The two children didn’t resemble each other much, but both had exceptionally cute features with a bit of playful natural curls. little Feng Xuran looked more like a stubborn little leopard, while little Feng Xuchen resembled a gentle and innocent little lamb. Especially when they both looked up in unison, it was quite amusing.
At the sight of Sheng Xia, Brother didn’t react yet, but Sister quickly changed her expression. Hastily climbing out of the sand, she shielded her brother behind her.
She didn’t say anything but her large and round eyes were full of caution, looking more like a little leopard, making Sheng Xia somewhat itchy.
These were human cubs.
It had been a long time since there were newborns in the apocalypse, and the surviving children matured early. Due to the lack of food, they were thin and quiet, fearing to attract the attention of zombies, and they rarely spoke.
In comparison, these chubby and naive little cubs looked particularly amusing.
The current three children of Feng Yan were not his biological children. The twins were Feng Yan’s elder brother’s children, while Feng Jingxu was his sister-in-law’s only nephew.
Four years ago, Feng Yan’s elder brother and sister-in-law tragically died in a plane crash, leaving behind these twins who were only a few months old. At the time, Feng Jingxu was only 13 years old, and with his parents also deceased, after several changes of guardians, he had been taken care of by Feng Yan’s sister-in-law.
So, upon the butler’s suggestion, Feng Yan adopted him and the twins together. However, due to taking over the mess of the Feng family temporarily, Feng Yan had been busy with work and his relationship with the children was somewhat unfamiliar.
Especially Feng Jingxu, who had been adopted over several times, became sensitive and irritable during adolescence. Proclaiming that he didn’t need Feng Yan to care for him, he plunged into the entertainment industry, overcoming numerous obstacles to eventually reach the pinnacle of fame.
Compared to the absent Feng Jingxu, the original owner disliked these two children even more. Though they usually avoided her, whenever they accidentally met, they would secretly call her “wicked stepmother,” which further intensified her disgust towards the twins.
“Sister, she’s the wicked stepmother.”
As if realizing who she was, Feng Xuchen, protected by his sister, suddenly widened his eyes. Tugging at his sister’s clothes, he whispered.
Seeing her sister’s lack of reaction, thinking that she was afraid of the wicked stepmother, he frowned in distress. Summoning his courage, he pointed at Sheng Xia with his short and chubby fingers, pretending to be stern: “You’re not allowed to come over. This is our game room, and we don’t welcome—”
“Hush, don’t speak nonsense.” Sister Feng Xuran immediately covered his mouth, glaring at Sheng Xia vigilantly, as if afraid she would do something to them.
She knew how much this woman in front of her hated them, especially when they called her “wicked stepmother.” However, her brother was forgetful every time, no matter how much she warned him, he would unconsciously shout it out when he saw Sheng Xia.
This made little Feng Xuran quite a headache. She didn’t understand why, despite being born together, her brother was so silly and not as smart as her.
However, every time her brother shouted “wicked stepmother,” the woman in front of them would usually be angry and detest them, but surprisingly, this time she didn’t show much reaction. Instead, sitting in a strange pink car, she propped up her chin, looking at them with a somewhat anxious gaze.
[Host, you should…]
This time, without waiting for the system to assign a task, Sheng Xia leisurely pushed the wheelchair to the sandbox, looking down at them from a high vantage point.
Her pitch-black eyes blinked incessantly, revealing no emotion. Not only did Feng Xuchen shrink in fear behind his sister, but even Feng Xuran also seemed somewhat scared, tightly pursing her lips.
Seeing the two little dumplings huddled together, Sheng Xia suddenly reached out a finger and lightly poked the half-built block castle they had constructed.
Then, in a voice like a demonic whisper, she softly said, “Ah, the castle collapsed.”
The two little ones: “…”
Helplessly watching their labor vanish before their eyes, the reacting Feng Xuchen, with his round and wet grape-like eyes, immediately welled up with tears. “Wicked stepmother, wuwa wicked stepmother—The castle is gone! You’re a wicked stepmother! I want Aunt Ye! Aunt Ye, help!!”
As he cried, his hair, soft and slightly curled at the ends, wiggled cutely. It was truly adorable.
How entertaining it was that even little cubs could cry.
Sheng Xia, with a surprised expression, couldn’t resist pinching the child, feeling his soft and plump face. She then looked at the sister beside him strangely, “Why aren’t you crying?”
Feng Xuran, who had just wanted to cry: “…”
Her face suddenly turned red, and even her little brother was neglected. She glared at Sheng Xia fiercely, like an enraged little leopard, declaring loudly, “I—I won’t cry! You’re not allowed to bully my brother!!”
Meanwhile, Feng Xuchen, frightened by Sheng Xia’s sudden pinch, forgot to cry. He hiccupped, looking up at her in confusion, tears still hanging on his long eyelashes. His clear and innocent eyes became even more innocent after being washed by tears.
Huh, it doesn’t hurt?
Sheng Xia felt even itchier. She looked at the strange little creatures and asked with some regret, “You’re not crying now? Really not crying?”
…She just wanted to pinch their cheeks, right?
Seeming to understand something, Feng Xuran looked at her speechlessly, protecting her brother even more. “Don’t pinch him. He’s afraid of pain, and besides, do you know he might drool?”
“Really?”
Sheng Xia widened her eyes, quickly retracting her hand.
A drooling child is cute, but let’s pass on that.
“Just kidding.” Feeling a strong sense of rejection from the wicked stepmother, the little one, even though scared of her, explained seriously, “Xuchen doesn’t drool; it’s just my sister deceiving people.”
Feng Xuran: “…”
She turned to look at her hindering silly brother, disdainfully saying, “Do you want her to pinch you again?”
Feng Xuchen, terrified, covered his face and shook his head. Tears hung from his eyes.
Feng Xuran sighed heavily; the little body bore too much. “Then shut up and don’t talk.”
Human cubs are really amusing, especially the dragon and phoenix twins, who seem like they’re doing a comedy routine. Sheng Xia couldn’t help but laugh.
Leaning on her chin, she smiled brightly. Her beautiful black eyes sparkled with laughter, and she exuded a radiance that seemed different from her previous self.
But where exactly was the difference? Little children couldn’t articulate it. Feng Xuchen, covering his face, stared at her blankly until his sister pulled him down, and then he nervously shrank behind her.
“Do you have something to find us for?”
Feng Xuran pursed her lips, politely asking despite her dissatisfaction.
She actually didn’t understand. Clearly, this woman used to avoid them completely, so why did she suddenly come to the game room? This was where they often stayed, and she should know that. Normally, she kept her distance.
“I’m bored, just came to see what you guys are doing.” Sheng Xia justified herself, innocently asking with her beautiful eyes, “Why, aren’t you playing anymore?”
Just for that?
Feng Xuran looked at her suspiciously. Seeing that she really didn’t make a move, she breathed a sigh of relief. But out of caution, she still pulled her brother, running to the other side of the sandbox to play.
With a serious face, Feng Xuran solemnly declared, “This time we’ll build the castle more securely so it won’t collapse with just one touch.”
Her brother nodded vigorously, “Yeah!”
Just as the two little ones were seriously rebuilding the castle, an unexpected shadow suddenly fell overhead. The familiar demonic voice echoed once again, “But with the way you’re building it, it will still collapse with a push.”
Startled, the two little ones: “…”
“Do you know how to build the castle more securely?” Sheng Xia, smiling, squinted her eyes. “Let me teach you.”
Would the wicked stepmother be so kind?
Feng Xuran coldly snorted, refusing firmly, “No, we can do it ourselves. Just don’t mess around.”
Feng Xuchen nodded vigorously.
“Sigh, I’m only trying to help you. Otherwise, your castle won’t even be fit for habitation. What a pity.”
Sheng Xia produced a tiny figurine from somewhere, gently placing it on the castle’s peak. The castle wobbled, making the dragon and phoenix twins fearful, their hearts beating at the same rhythm as the swaying structure.
The demon continued innocently, “How about it? Do you want me to teach you?”
Forced by the threat, the siblings glanced at each other and could only agree tearfully.
—Wu wu wu, sorry, Xuchen, it seems we can only compromise.
—Wu wu wu, wicked stepmother, for the safety of the castle, sister, let’s just agree.
Catching a glimpse of the two little dumplings huddled together, Sheng Xia earnestly placed the model figure on the armrest of the wheelchair, once again sighing softly.
Ah, it turns out that little cubs are still more entertaining.
Darn it, why isn’t the sandbox in her entertainment area as fun as this?
The system was on the verge of breaking apart: [……]
Just letting you join their game was just a sarcastic remark. Did you really take it seriously?
