Chapter 127: Surprised? Unexpected?
The man didn’t care.
With a creak, he locked the broken door and blocked the remaining light in the room.
Ah Bao trotted over to Di Rongjing. “Guoguo, wake up, Guoguo.”
Di Rongjing woke up, feeling a heavy, painful neck.
Seeing Ah Bao, he looked around, and with a start, sat up quickly.
He couldn’t speak, and was very anxious, his face showing pain.
Ah Bao understood his meaning. “I’m fine.”
Di Rongjing was relieved. For some reason, he always felt that whatever Ah Bao said was true.
If she said it was okay, then it must be okay.
He trusted Ah Bao immensely, not knowing where this trust came from.
Di Rongjing looked around again.
Ah Bao giggled.
【Little Ninth Brother, this is your first time out of the palace. Isn’t it fun, hahaha】
【Surprised? Unexpected?】
【Such an experience is definitely not something an ordinary prince or princess would get to experience. You must cherish this opportunity.】
Hearing these thoughts, Di Rongjing: “…”
He was so surprised he was nearly in tears.
Two elderly women with single eyes, one blind in the left eye and the other in the right, came in cursing.
They were quite symmetrical.
Under Ah Bao’s signal, Di Rongjing quickly pretended to be unconscious.
“Oh my goodness, just now our big brother fell into a dung pit. Oh heavens, now I’m covered in filth, it’s so dirty.” The thin old woman said.
At that moment, the man who had just crawled out of the dung pit was cursing.
Today had been too unlucky!
Just as he stood up, another bucket of dung was poured directly onto him.
Ahhhh!
The man was furious.
The worst part was, he had his mouth open, so it had even flowed into his mouth…
The old man collecting the night pots heard the commotion and looked over. “Damn, a ghost!”
He swung a stick at the man’s head.
The man was stunned. After crawling out of the dung pit, he fell back in.
Ahhhh!
Who hit me?
Who poured dung on me?
Who pushed me into the dung pit?
“Help…”
“Seeing ghosts, seeing ghosts! Ghosts actually scream. I’ll make you scream and drown you,” the old man hurriedly emptied the remaining dung from another bucket into the pit.
The man passed out from the rage.
In the dark firewood room.
The two old women looked at the little and big figures in front of them, exchanged glances, and quickly closed the door.
Outside, they murmured.
The thin old woman said, “Sister Fat, did you see that little girl? She’s really cute. Those big eyes, so bright and clever.”
Sister Fat: “Hmph, a one-year-old child, how clever can she be? I think that boy is quite good-looking, fair and handsome. Which young master is he? Really charming.”
The thin old woman shot her a look. “You and your preference for boys! I just think that girl looks pleasant.”
Sister Fat: “Even if she looks pleasant, she’s not yours. Don’t get your hopes up. You’re too old to be looking for a goddaughter. I don’t know where big brother got this child from. Dressed in silk and satin, she must be from a wealthy family.”
The thin old woman sighed. “Forget about that. Big brother left the child with us, so we have to deal with her. What do you think? Should we follow the old rules?”
Sister Fat nodded. “Yes, follow the old rules. I’ll make contact; you keep an eye here.”
Inside the room.
Ah Bao sat on the haystack, cracking the few remaining melon seeds, listening to the two women’s chatter outside.
Oh…
She understood now.
These old women were planning to deal with her and Little Ninth Brother.
【Rather than being dealt with by others, it’s better to handle it ourselves first】
Di Rongjing tugged at Ah Bao’s clothing.
Sister, how are you going to handle yourself?
Ah Bao quickly understood Di Rongjing’s gaze. She finished the last melon seed, licked her lips with satisfaction, and gave him two hand signals. Di Rongjing continued to pretend to be unconscious.
Then, Ah Bao opened the door and went out.
The thin old woman saw Ah Bao and exclaimed, “Oh my heavens! How did you little girl get out?”
Ah Bao patted her stomach and reached out to the thin old woman. “I’m hungry…”
The old woman immediately understood, and a motherly glow appeared on her face.
She had been pregnant when she was younger but had a miscarriage and lost the baby. Since then, she had been in a daze for a while.
She fantasized about the child she lost.
Whenever she saw other people’s children, she wanted to hug them, which often got her into trouble.
It had been a long time, but seeing Ah Bao made her memories come rushing back as if it were yesterday.
“Wait a moment. I’ll find something for you to eat.” The old woman patted Ah Bao’s head. A one-year-old child couldn’t make much of a fuss.
The old woman soon found a steamed bun.
Ah Bao was really hungry.
The bun was a treat for her. Her mother had never let her eat such things in the palace, so she found it quite novel.
“Eat up. You won’t be hungry anymore.”
Ah Bao nibbled on it. Without teeth, it had a fresh, pleasant taste.
It wasn’t as good as meat, but it was better than nothing.
【So this is what mother called coarse grains. Eat up! Mother said eating coarse grains is good for the body and prevents constipation】
【Lately, I’ve been feeling so irritable, and going to the bathroom hasn’t been smooth】
Di Rongjing, who was struggling between consciousness and unconsciousness behind a door, twitched his mouth upon hearing Ah Bao’s thoughts.
Since meeting his sister, he had noticed he had more expressions.
In just one day, it had been more stimulating than the previous six years combined.
Ah Bao finished the steamed bun.
She extended her little hand. “Wipe…”
The old woman: …
She took out a handkerchief from her waist and carefully wiped Ah Bao’s hands and face. “All cleaned up.”
Ah Bao curved her eyes and smiled. “Play.”
The old woman, like a maid attending to her master, responded, “Alright, go play, but you can only play in this courtyard, not anywhere else.”
Ah Bao put on a look of seeming comprehension. “Okay~”
The old woman smiled. She had said the child was clever, and indeed, she understood everything.
At night, Di Rongjing was locked in the room, unable to enter or exit, while Ah Bao played happily outside.
Ah Bao entered the adjacent room.
The door wasn’t locked.
Ah Bao walked in casually.
She saw the scene inside the room.
【Oh my! Why are there so many children here?】
The room was filled with several children lying around haphazardly.
Most of them were about two or three years old.
Human traffickers?
So that man was involved in human trafficking.
【Good grief! What’s wrong with him? Why is he involved in trafficking children?】
“Oh my goodness, where did you run off to?” The thin old woman quickly rushed over and took Ah Bao out.
The children were all shivering in fear but hadn’t cried.
Ah Bao realized that they must have been given some kind of drug. Their faces were pale and their energy was low.
