Chapter 138: Not Your Own Son
Feng Sheng was wearing a half mask, with moonlight streaming through the broken window, casting a chilling glow on the mask.
“This is stimulating! Don’t you like it?”
Concubine Hui took a deep breath, exasperated. That was close. “If Di Li finds out, what will we do? Our plans will be ruined!”
“Ha, are you concerned about that kid? He’s not your own son. Why care now?”
Concubine Hui frowned.
She felt uncomfortable.
Feng Sheng clearly intended to humiliate Di Li through a wall.
“All these years, haven’t you been instilling the idea of becoming emperor in him? You’ve always seen him as a pawn. When do chess players care about their pieces?
If a piece doesn’t behave, just discard it.”
“If Di Li dies, don’t expect to get the Tiansheng Dynasty’s throne or revive Feng Country either.”
Feng Sheng snorted coldly, “He didn’t notice, did he? Look at how anxious you are.”
He was very measured in his actions.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to hide in the capital for so many years.
Concubine Hui was irked. “Di Li has never seen you or had any grievances with you. Why do you always target him? After all, he’s just a twenty-year-old kid.”
He’s not even married yet.
“I’m not targeting him; you’re overthinking it.”
Is that so?
Concubine Hui was somewhat skeptical of Feng Sheng’s words.
“My dear, I just miss you so much. The appearance of Di Li was merely a coincidence. Even if he hadn’t shown up, we would have…”
He spoke in a very vague manner, but his eyes were full of lecherous intent.
Concubine Hui’s heart raced.
She liked Feng Sheng, not just in public, but more importantly, in bed.
“Alright, tidy up. I need to leave quickly.” Concubine Hui adjusted her tone, not daring to anger Feng Sheng, as she needed him. It had been this way for years.
Feng Sheng handed Concubine Hui a blood-red jade.
The jade was very special, with intricate patterns, and in the very center, there was a round black spot.
It looked like a person’s bloodshot eyes and black pupils.
When Concubine Hui took the jade, she couldn’t help but shiver.
She had seen this jade many times.
Almost once every year.
But every time she saw it, the feeling of fear would rise from her heart, even more so with each encounter.
She was actually somewhat averse to this jade, always feeling it was eerie and icy to the touch.
“According to the old rule, put it on the Third Prince,” Feng Sheng said with a smile, as if afraid Concubine Hui wouldn’t be happy, and hugged her tightly.
The warmth from the man dispelled a bit of Concubine Hui’s unease, and she nodded.
“After the task is done, put it back in the old place, and I’ll come to get it. Be good.” Feng Sheng coaxed softly.
Concubine Hui, immersed in sweet words, felt a bit dazed. As she was about to leave, she couldn’t help but ask, “Feng Sheng, what kind of jade is this? Why do I always think this jade looks so ugly?”
“How can you say it’s ugly?” Feng Sheng’s eyes flashed with a hint of coldness, vanishing quickly.
Concubine Hui didn’t notice anything unusual.
“It’s the most beautiful jade in the world, the most unique. Smell it. The jade has a faint fragrance, doesn’t it?”
Feng Sheng looked at the jade as if mesmerized, his lips curling into a sinister smile.
Concubine Hui frowned. Of course, she didn’t want to smell it.
But Feng Sheng had already grabbed her hand, forcing the jade to her nose, insisting she smell it.
Concubine Hui felt like a dog.
“Ugh—”
A faint, aged, rotting blood smell reached her nose, very weak, but because Concubine Hui was so close, she smelled it clearly.
She couldn’t hold back and gagged.
Feng Sheng stood aside, his gaze sinister as he looked at her. “What are you doing?”
“It’s disgusting! What’s that smell? It’s so horrible,” Concubine Hui said with a look of disgust, waving her hand near her nose, trying to rid herself of the unpleasant odor.
Feng Sheng tightly clutched the jade.
Concubine Hui looked up and met Feng Sheng’s gaze, startled. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
Feng Sheng suddenly smiled, “Nothing. Just worried about your health. Is it really that bad?”
Concubine Hui had thought she might have been mistaken, nodded, and said, “Can’t you smell it? I haven’t looked at this thing carefully before. Will it be discovered if it’s on the Third Prince?”
“It won’t be. I trust you. You’ll handle it perfectly, my dear.” Feng Sheng was smiling, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes.
Concubine Hui, feeling extremely irritated, muttered to herself as she took the jade and left.
As she stepped out through the broken door, Feng Sheng’s smile faded, and he stared at her back, silently cursing, “Fool!”
Turning around, he pressed a mechanism on the wall.
A stone slab below cracked open, revealing a hidden passage.
Feng Sheng entered the underground directly.
Walking through the dark corridor, he arrived at a secret chamber at the end. In the small space was a cold jade bed.
The closer he got, the colder the air felt.
On the jade bed lay a deceased woman.
The woman had been disemboweled.
Despite the years that had passed, her appearance remained unchanged, still as gentle and lovely as in life, with a beautiful face.
If not for the bloodstains on her belly, one would think she was just asleep.
Beside the woman, there was a particularly small corpse, as if she was holding a newborn baby.
“Sweetheart, just be patient a little longer. Our plan after so many years is about to succeed. The Tiansheng Dynasty and the Tiansheng Emperor will all disappear. Just wait a bit longer. I won’t disappoint you…”
…
“Li’er, I finally found you.” Concubine Hui emerged from somewhere and saw Di Li searching for her in the middle of the street. She hurried to meet him.
Di Li’s expression wasn’t too good. “Mother, where did you go? I looked for you for two streets.”
“I went to buy some incense.”
“Aren’t there plenty in the temples?”
Concubine Hui gave him a look. “Our incense is coarser than what’s in the temple. It’s more effective this way.”
“Heartfelt sincerity is what matters. It doesn’t depend on this,” Di Li said sullenly.
Unintentionally, he glanced at the mark on Concubine Hui’s neck…
Di Li was stunned!
Concubine Hui obviously didn’t notice and continued walking, only to realize Di Li wasn’t following. “Li’er, why are you standing there?”
“Mother, your neck…”
Concubine Hui then remembered what she had done with Feng Sheng earlier, and wondered if it left a mark.
Concubine Hui adjusted her collar. “A bug bit me a couple of days ago. Why are you looking at me like that?”
Surely this boy wouldn’t suspect her, right?
He’s so naive and trusts her so much, he shouldn’t suspect her.
“Uh, it’s nothing.” What could Di Li say? He felt uncomfortable inside. The princess was right; his mother…
“Mother, are you in a hurry to get incense?”
“What for?”
Di Li lowered his head. “I saw a fortune teller over there. Lately, I’ve been feeling out of sorts. How about we consult them?”
Concubine Hui didn’t want any more issues to arise.
She didn’t want to hold onto the jade for too long.
