Chapter 248: The Lightning Shrinks Back
Ah Bao went outside and saw a small pot on the ground with a sapling about the thickness of a thumb.
“Uh…” Ah Bao blinked and walked over with her little short legs. [Why does this little tree look so shabby?]
[It seems oddly familiar though.]
She remembered that a long time ago, she had picked up a person who particularly liked to grow flowers and trees.
What was that person’s name again?
Ah Bao scratched her head, feeling frustrated that she couldn’t remember.
“Little tree, little tree, don’t die. Little tree, little tree, grow up quickly。” Ah Bao squatted down, gently moving the sapling back and forth with her little fingers, while murmuring, “Little tree, little tree, I’m here, don’t be afraid. You’ll be okay.”
“You cross heaven, earth, and the world, but you cannot save yourself! Who will save you?” A cold voice pierced her ears and exploded in her mind.
[Whose voice is that?] Ah Bao looked up suddenly, glancing around, but found no one.
[Strange, whose voice was that just now? It sounded almost mocking.]
[What the hell, is it insulting me?]
Ah Bao didn’t understand and didn’t want to think too hard. She walked back to the temple with a lack of interest.
When Leng Qingliu and Prince Seven arrived, they saw the Tree of Life.
“Holy cow! It’s… green!” Leng Qingliu exclaimed, sitting down on the temple steps, stunned.
“Your head is turning green?” Prince Seven asked, drunk.
Leng Qingliu, however, was completely sober. “My tree is turning green, turning green, wuwuwu.”
Leng Qingliu thought it was an illusion and slapped himself, only to find that, aside from his dazed state, the tree was indeed green.
He walked over, trembling, and began to cry, covering his eyes. It looked rather pathetic for a grown man.
“Stop crying!” Ah Bao stormed out, looking stern. “It’s too noisy.”
Ah Bao was especially irritable tonight.
Because she hadn’t managed to get the unofficial history!
Leng Qingliu looked at the little princess in front of the temple, tears streaming down his face silently. “Little princess… it’s you, it’s really you!”
“It’s me, yes, it’s me. Why are you crying?” Ah Bao pouted and said angrily, “You’re disturbing my sleep!”
Leng Qingliu suddenly laughed, kneeling on the ground and banging his head on the floor three times. “Thank you, little princess. You’re my god, wuwu. Oh right, I shouldn’t cry or disturb the little princess. I’m sorry, truly sorry.”
“Do you have anything else?”
Leng Qingliu, looking like a daft fool, said, “No, no, that’s all.”
Ah Bao waved him off. “Then hurry up and leave, it’s annoying!”
“Oh, okay, okay, I’ll go now. I’ll leave right away.” Who would dare disobey the little princess’s orders?
Leng Qingliu quickly packed up the Tree of Life. He was genuinely worried that Ah Bao might get angry and smash the pot, so he put the pot in a large sack and hurriedly carried it away.
Prince Seven couldn’t help but laugh. “Hahaha, that’s Leng Qingliu’s treasure, so casual!”
If it wasn’t a treasure, Leng Qingliu wouldn’t have cried over that tree so many times.
If it was a treasure, then Leng Qingliu’s casual handling of it was quite something. Would you put a treasure in a sack?
“Seventh Brother,” Ah Bao said, hugging Prince Seven’s leg and frowning, “Have you been drinking?”
Prince Seven looked down at Ah Bao and grinned, “Mm-hmm.”
“Hmph!”
“Oh, I’m sorry if I’ve bothered you. I’ll leave now.”
“Seventh Brother, can you get me a drink too?”
Prince Seven was startled, looking around. “That’s not possible. If Father and Mother find out, I’ll be in trouble.”
“Just a little sip, please?”
[In the past, Lao Hei and Lao Bai used to drink with me, but they couldn’t keep up with me, hahaha.]
[Every time, I’d end up throwing up on them. Later, they just… stopped letting me drink. So boring.]
Prince Seven knew that Lao Hei and Lao Bai were likely Ah Bao’s friends from her previous life in the underworld.
“Little sister, you’re too young. You can’t drink, no matter what. Be good, and when you grow up, I’ll drink with you, okay?”
Ah Bao pouted.
“By the way, little sister, why did you sneak into the temple tonight?”
[To find the unofficial history.]
The unofficial history of the empire was a royal treasure. Prince Seven had only heard of it and never dared to inquire too much during the reign of Emperor Tiansheng. He hadn’t expected it to be kept in the temple.
“Seventh Brother, come inside with me for a moment,” Ah Bao said, pulling Prince Seven into the temple. Prince Seven saw a dusty, yellowed book propped under the table leg.
Uh (⊙o⊙)…
It was hard to imagine that this was the divine book cherished by the ancestors and his father.
“Who did this? How could they use a royal treasure as a table leg prop? When I find out, I’ll…”
“Cough cough.”
[It was me! Is my brother going to spank me?]
Prince Seven stopped abruptly. “When I find out, I’ll have to give them a big thumbs-up. Really brave!”
Ah Bao patted her chest. “Seventh Brother, it was me. Praise me quickly.”
Prince Seven’s mouth twitched. He gave a thumbs-up and cheered, “Little sister, you’re amazing!”
The siblings shared a smile.
Ah Bao was very happy, but her mood soured when she saw the book. [I’ve been struggling to get this book out. It’s as if it’s stuck to the ground. It was so easy when I placed it there.]
“Little sister, wait here. I’ll get the book for you.”
Prince Seven rubbed his hands together and moved forward to help, but the table wouldn’t budge, and neither did the book.
This was really frustrating!
Was the book enchanted or just stubborn?
Ah Bao bit her lip. [I have a way. I’ll use lightning to split the table in half, then I can get the book out. Hahaha, I’m so clever.]
Prince Seven immediately broke out in a cold sweat.
Use lightning in the temple?
Ah Bao started calling for lightning.
The sky darkened with rolling clouds and a fierce wind.
“Seventh Brother, oh no, is it going to rain? Let’s hide quickly.”
Prince Seven twitched at the corner of his mouth. “We’re inside the temple, little sister. It won’t leak here.”
Ah Bao smacked her forehead. “Right.”
[Quietly waiting for the lightning, come on lightning, come!]
Ah Bao silently chanted in her mind.
Prince Seven: …
[It’s coming, it’s coming, welcome! Just you wait, I’ll see if I can’t split you open!]
Just as the lightning appeared, ready to strike the temple, it suddenly split in the air and then shrank back.
