Chapter 29: Deal with Your Sister!
[Come here, let me take a look.]
Di Zian moved closer to Ah Bao, “Sister, why does it feel like my head is a bit chilly? Can you check if there’s something growing on my head?”
Ah Bao took a closer look.
Her grape-like eyes suddenly fixed on something.
There was a black flame, about the size of a finger, flickering on top of Di Zian’s head.
[Dead Qi?]
Ah Bao was very familiar with this kind of black aura.
During her hundred years wandering in the underworld, she often encountered this black death aura.
Dead Qi typically comes from someone who is about to die.
Ah Bao’s heart tightened in fear. [Brother, you’re not about to die, are you?]
Di Zian’s eyes widened.
Oh no!
He hadn’t even found his future wife yet and hadn’t repaid his parents’ kindness. He didn’t want to die yet.
This was strange. In the original book, Seventh Brother died saving the heroine from a knife, but now, he didn’t even know where the heroine was hiding, so how could he have this death aura?
“Sister, not only does my whole body hurt, but my head also hurts a lot. Am I dying soon?”
Ah Bao: “…”
[Brother, why are you predicting this so accurately?]
“Bang!”
The door was kicked open from the outside.
Two scar-faced men stormed into the room.
The guesthouse where Di Zian was staying was the largest in the capital, with excellent security.
Such things as door-kicking in the middle of the night were unheard of.
“You brat, we finally found you. Hand over the stuff!”
Di Zian was bewildered. “What stuff?”
“Kid, if you have the guts to steal, you should have the guts to admit it! I’ll show you—I’ll chop off your hand!”
Di Zian understood now.
He was mistaken for a thief!
Great.
He was indeed a walking disaster!
Every time he entered or left the palace, trouble seemed to follow him.
And here it was again.
As Di Zian was still moaning, the two burly men had already started attacking.
[Brother, what are you dawdling for? Be careful! To your left, to your left!]
With Ah Bao’s reminder, one of the scar-faced men swung a curved blade from the left towards Di Zian.
Di Zian swiftly dodged, narrowly avoiding the fatal blow.
Clang!
The blade struck the table.
Di Zian felt a sharp pain in his arm.
Good grief.
If he hadn’t dodged quickly, he would have lost his left arm from that blow.
Ah Bao, who was lying on the bed, stopped fidgeting and watched the fight intently from her swaddling.
[Brother, behind you!]
[Oh my heavens! Brother, pay attention!]
Di Zian’s body stiffened. Just as he was about to run forward, one of the scar-faced men grabbed his shoulder from behind, “Kid, hand over the key!”
“Go to hell!” Di Zian was furious.
He was clearly a huge scapegoat.
Key?
What key?
Di Zian had no idea what these two scar-faced men were talking about.
“Let go!” Di Zian glared at the scar-faced man.
“Hah, you little brat, even with death looming over you, you still dare to challenge me. I’ll make sure you’re finished,” the scar-faced man swung a punch at Di Zian’s head.
Di Zian intercepted the attack with one hand and kicked the man in his groin, “If I can’t beat a little madman, do you think I can’t handle you?”
He could accept being beaten by Feng Zhuo because he was no match for him.
But what were these two scar-faced men?
Why was everyone taking turns to bully him?
It was absolutely intolerable!
The scar-faced man howled in pain, retreating, “Little Scar, kill him! Chop off his hands!”
Little Scar complied, drawing his blade and charging forward.
Di Zian’s eyes narrowed. He dodged Little Scar’s attack with a swift movement and kicked him from behind.
Little Scar fell onto the larger scar-faced man.
“Ouch! You’re crushing me!”
The larger scar-faced man pushed Little Scar aside, his gaze flickering to the swaddled bundle on the bed. A glint of murderous intent flashed in his eyes.
He lunged toward Ah Bao—
[Not good! Danger!]
[Brother—help!]
“Sister!” Di Zian, held back by Little Scar, saw the larger scar-faced man about to strike Ah Bao. His eyes reddened with urgency, “No!”
He kicked Little Scar away and charged forward frantically.
The curved blade gleamed coldly in the air, aiming at Ah Bao. Suddenly, a shadow swooped in from the window, blocking the blade and sending the larger scar-faced man flying with a single strike.
Ah Bao felt a shadow envelop her, and her body lifted lightly. She was now being held by Feng Zhuo.
His expression was slightly cold, but when he looked at Ah Bao, his gaze softened. He gently patted her, as if to dispel her fear, “Princess, don’t be afraid.”
[Wow— that was really terrifying!]
Di Zian quickly walked over, and seeing that Ah Bao was unharmed, he let out a heavy sigh of relief.
His sister was safe.
He couldn’t bear to think of the consequences if something had happened to Ah Bao.
Di Zian’s gaze turned to the two men, sharp and filled with hatred, as if he wanted to flay them alive.
He walked over, picked up a nearby stool, and smashed it at the two men, “Dare to touch my sister, and you’re looking for death!”
Ah Bao had never seen Di Zian so enraged.
He beat the two men until they were howling and had no strength to fight back.
Exhausted from the fight, Di Zian took Ah Bao from Feng Zhuo. This place was no longer safe; he needed to find another location!
Once they were out on the quiet street, Di Zian glanced back at Feng Zhuo, “Little Madman, have you been here all along?”
“Replying to the Seventh Prince, yes.”
Di Zian: “So, you were also there when those two men were beating me?”
Feng Zhuo: “Yes.”
Di Zian: !!!
“So why didn’t you come out and save me when I was being beaten?”
Feng Zhuo glanced at Ah Bao in his arms and lowered his eyes, “The Emperor assigned me to protect the Tenth Princess, so the Seventh Prince’s safety was not within my protection scope.”
Di Zian: ……
He actually thought Little Madman made a good point?
“Forget it, forget it. Father is so biased, finding such a skilled little eunuch for my sister but not for me. I need to ask Father to find me a skilled little eunuch too when we get back to the palace.”
[Hehe, brother, there’s only one Little Madman in this world. I’m afraid there’s no other eunuch in the palace who can match his skills.]
[Brother, maybe you could get a guard instead.]
Di Zian pouted. No, he didn’t want a guard; he wanted a little eunuch!
That way, he and his sister would have a common topic to discuss. What’s that called?
Reducing the generation gap!
Improving sibling relationships—it’s great!
With Di Zian protecting Ah Bao, Feng Zhuo discreetly concealed himself.
As the cool night breeze blew, Di Zian, worried that little Ah Bao might get cold, held her more closely.
He sighed, “Sister, I’m sorry. Following this unlucky brother of yours almost put you in danger.”
The thought made Di Zian’s heart ache.
He only had one precious sister. He couldn’t imagine how he’d feel if Ah Bao were hurt; he’d be devastated.
[Brother, it’s okay. We’re fine, aren’t we?]
Di Zian slapped his forehead, “Sister, let me take you to see the lanterns in the south of the city. It’s the Lantern Festival today.”
Di Zian had originally planned to stay at the inn for a while and go out later when there would be fewer people, but he didn’t expect to run into two big men halfway.
[Lantern Festival? Wow, I love it! It must be lively. Brother, hurry and take me there!]
Di Zian took Ah Bao to the south of the city.
As they arrived, they heard the bustling noise of the festival.
Compared to the quiet north of the city, the south was much more vibrant tonight.
[So beautiful!]
[My eyes are dazzled!]
[Brother, that little white rabbit lantern is so pretty.]
The Lantern Festival in ancient times was indeed as beautiful and lively as described in the books.
“Sister, this is for you!” Di Zian bought a little rabbit lantern for Ah Bao.
Ah Bao was thrilled.
[Thank you, brother.]
[But brother, you should be careful tonight. The death aura on you is quite strong, and various dangers might come your way.]
Di Zian: ?
He was not calm!
