Chapter 6
Jiang Yiyi was cooking in the kitchen. She felt a lot more relaxed, perhaps because she had worked up a sweat during her trip to Qinjia Village.
He boiled water and cooked the noodles, then scooped out bowls of them and poured the shredded pork sauce on them. He also made two small bowls and called Gu Yunyang and Gu Yuncan to bring them into the house.
The two children smelled the fragrance, poked their heads out of Gu Yunchi’s arms, staring straight at the bowls in Jiang Yiyi’s hands. When they saw Jiang Yiyi put the two small bowls in front of them, they didn’t dare to move and looked at their mother eagerly.
Gu Yunchi’s eyes suddenly turned red again. He held back his tears and said to his two daughters with a smile, “Eat.”
The two little ones’ eyes lit up and they couldn’t wait to pick up their chopsticks and start eating. Although they were only one and a half years old, they were already very skilled in using chopsticks.
“Thank you, sister-in-law.”
“We are a family, why should we be so polite? There is still some food in the pot. Eat more and don’t leave any. We will make dumplings tonight.”
The fragrant shredded pork and soft noodles were so delicious that not only the two children, but even Gu’s mother, Gu Yunyang, Gu Yuncan and Gu Yunchi ate without even raising their heads. Seeing them wolfing down the food, Jiang Yiyi also had a big appetite and ate two bowls. The whole family finished all the noodles and shredded pork.
After eating, Jiang Yiyi put down her bowl and chopsticks, and Gu Yunyang and Gu Yuncan hurried to clean up. The two of them had bulging stomachs, and they were afraid that Jiang Yiyi would see and criticize them, so they took a deep breath and covered their mouths. Their movements to clean up were not as quick as before.
Jiang Yiyi pretended not to see it. Noodles are not filling and will be digested before the evening. However, she asked them to eat less dumplings in the evening so that they would not be too full and unable to sleep at night.
In the kitchen, Gu Yuncan glanced around the house and asked in a low voice, “Brother, do you think that sister-in-law will always let us have enough food in the future?”
In the past, her sister-in-law always cooked for a fixed amount, one bowl per person, no more. It was the first time that she let them eat as much as they wanted today. She was afraid that her sister-in-law would be angry, so she controlled herself and didn’t dare to eat more. But the shredded pork noodles were so delicious that she couldn’t control herself.
Gu Yunyang didn’t say anything, but also looked in the direction of the house. He faintly heard Jiang Yiyi’s voice coming from the house, “Big sister, do you need me to go with you this afternoon?”
He retracted his gaze and pursed his lips. That woman would not be nice to them for no reason. She must be planning something. But my little sister is still young, so I can’t tell her these words. “Didn’t she say she would make dumplings in the evening? Let’s see then.”
Inside the house, Gu Yunchi stroked the two sleepy children and shook his head. The Qin family was hoping that she would get a divorce, so nothing would go wrong.
“Remember to write a divorce agreement. We don’t want any child support, and the two children will have no relationship with the Qin family in the future.”
In later generations, couples would have divorce agreements when they divorced. She didn’t know if there was one now, but whether there was one or not, she had to ask Gu Yunchi to write one, so that the Qin family wouldn’t come to her house and harass her in the future using the child as an excuse.
Gu Yunchi nodded.
Jiang Yiyi didn’t say anything else and went back to her room. After all, she had a high fever. Although she felt much better, the soreness and weakness in her body had not completely gone away. She lay on the bed and fell asleep after a while.
She slept very deeply and woke up in the afternoon. The sky outside had cleared up completely. The coolness after the rain had faded and the summer heat was coming. She felt much more relaxed, but her body was greasy and sweaty, making her feel very uncomfortable.
She always loved cleanliness, and couldn’t stand it, so she got up and went to the kitchen to boil water.
Gu’s mother heard the noise and came out of the house. Seeing that she was adding water to the pot, she hurried over and said, “Go lie down in the house, and I will help you boil the water.”
“Thank you, mother. I’m fine now. I can cure the fever myself.”
Mother Gu walked up to Jiang Yiyi and touched her forehead. As expected, she was no longer hot and she breathed a sigh of relief.
At noon, she was shocked. She had completely forgotten that Jiang Yiyi was still running a fever. It was not until she returned to her room that she remembered. When she was sleeping, she tiptoed to her window several times, but when she saw that she did not seem to have a fever, she did not go in to disturb her sleep.
“Go wait in the bathroom. I’ll boil some water and bring it to you.”
When Gu’s father built the house, he even built a separate bathroom.
“I can take care of myself. You go back to the house and look after the two children.”
After persuading Gu’s mother to go back to the house, Jiang Yiyi boiled some water, took the water in a basin to the bathroom, wiped herself, changed into clean clothes, washed the clothes she had taken off, hung them up to dry, and went to Gu’s mother’s room.
The two children had already woken up and were wearing dried clothes. They were sitting next to Mother Gu, one on each side. When they saw her, they subconsciously moved closer to her.
Sensing their uneasiness, Mother Gu smiled and said, “Tiantian, Yueyue, call me aunt.”
“Aunt.”
“Aunt.”
They had just learned to speak, so they didn’t speak clearly, and their voices were very small and cautious.
Jiang Yiyi patted their heads respectively and said, “Aunt will take you to the garden to pick vegetables, and then come back to make dumplings for you, okay?”
The two little guys seemed to have never eaten dumplings before and didn’t know what dumplings were for. They looked at her blankly.
“Meat dumplings.”
When they heard the word “meat”, the two little ones’ eyes lit up and they looked at Mother Gu at the same time. When their mother left, she told them to listen to their grandmother.
“Go ahead.”
The two little people stood up when they heard that. Jiang Yiyi put shoes on them respectively, carried them off the kang, and walked out holding one of them in each hand. When they reached the gate, she let the two little people hold hands, and she used her free hand to take down the sickle hanging at the door.
The vegetable garden is on the left side of the house. It is not big, but it has all kinds of seasonal vegetables, enough for the whole family. Before she came here, the original owner would pick vegetables every Sunday and sell them in the county, and then go to the state-owned restaurant to buy Bai Jun’s favorite dishes.
She asked the two little ones to wait by the garden, picked two medium-sized cucumbers, washed them and gave them to them to eat. Jiang Yiyi went into the vegetable garden and cut some leeks and fennel.
She likes to eat leeks, but Gu’s mother has a weak appetite and can’t eat them, so she packs some fennel for her mother.
I saw some cucumbers, tomatoes and eggplants were ripe, so I picked them up.
Gu Yunyang’s face changed when he came back from cutting the grass. He wanted to rush up to argue with Jiang Yiyi. In the past, she could have sold those vegetables, but now there are three more people in the family, especially the two nieces are still young, how can she not eat vegetables.
“elder brother.”
The two are twins, a boy and a girl, and have telepathy. Sensing his impulse, Gu Yuncan nervously grabbed his arm. He didn’t know what was wrong with Gu Yunyang, as he had been very hostile to his sister-in-law these days.
Jiang Yiyi also saw them, “It’s just right that you are back, help me get these back home.”
Seeing Gu Yunyang standing still, Gu Yuncan tugged at his clothes. Gu Yunyang took a deep breath and strode over. Gu Yuncan hurriedly followed.
As they got closer, Jiang Yiyi noticed Gu Yunyang’s mood and knew that he thought she was selling the vegetables again, so she didn’t explain.
