Chapter 48: Second Uncle

“Comrade soldier, is there anything you need? Where are you going? Do you need any help?”

A passerby stepped forward, politely asking Jiang Yunhan.

“Thank you. We are looking for Deputy Director Qin. He should be in his office. We’ll just go to his office. You don’t need to help.”

Jiang Yunhan didn’t speak, his face cold. He habitually let Cheng Xuping answer for him.

In situations like this, Cheng Xuping usually answered for him, sparing him from speaking.

“They’re looking for Deputy Director Qin! I wonder what they want from him?” someone said curiously.

“I don’t know.”

Deputy Director Qin’s office was on the fourth floor. After Jiang Yunhan and Wu Xiuxiu climbed to the fourth floor, they walked towards the corridor on the left.

“Which office is it?” Wu Xiuxiu asked, noticing there were over twenty offices on the left, quite a few.

“Here.” Jiang Yunhan pointed to the office half a meter away from them.

Wu Xiuxiu followed his finger and saw that the door was closed.

“The door is closed. Is he not here?” Wu Xiuxiu said.

“Knock and you’ll know.” Jiang Yunhan said, giving Cheng Xuping a look.

Cheng Xuping immediately stepped forward and knocked. A man’s voice came from inside: “Who is it?”

“Is Second Uncle here? I’m looking for my Second Uncle.” Jiang Yunhan called out to the door.

Second Uncle? Wu Xiuxiu looked at her husband. So Deputy Director Qin was his uncle.

“It’s Yunhan’s voice, Secretary Qi, open the door quickly.” A voice came from inside, a bit older but still deep and resonant.

Moments later, the door opened, revealing a young man wearing a Zhongshan suit and glasses, looking quite refined.

“Captain Jiang! What brings you here? Please come in.”

The young man saw Jiang Yunhan and immediately made a gesture of invitation with a respectful bow. His eyes scanned Wu Xiuxiu beside Jiang Yunhan, filled with astonishment and curiosity.

It was obvious he was amazed by Wu Xiuxiu’s beauty and curious about her identity.

Wu Xiuxiu noticed the young man’s scrutiny but didn’t mind. She followed Jiang Yunhan into the room.

The office was huge!

As soon as Wu Xiuxiu entered, she realized the office was incredibly spacious. The walls were plastered with popular slogans of the time, such as “Grasp the Revolution, Promote Production,” “Be Bold, Strive for Excellence,” “All Ethnic Groups Are Closely United, the Great Motherland Is Prosperous and Strong,” and the like. There were also portraits of great leaders and a painting of Tiananmen Square during the founding ceremony.

On the desk was a bust of a great leader. Behind the desk sat a man in his fifties, wearing a Zhongshan suit. He had a square face, was somewhat plump, and exuded a strong air of authority.

When the man saw Jiang Yunhan, he immediately got up from behind the desk, walked around it, and approached Jiang Yunhan.

“Yunhan, what brings you here?”

“Missed you, didn’t I?” Jiang Yunhan smiled.

“You’re kidding me! You’ve never missed me, your second uncle, since you were a kid. You only remember me when you have something to ask of me. Come on, what do you want this time?”

Qin Hong didn’t believe him, waving his hand with a chuckle. His eyes drifted to Wu Xiuxiu beside Jiang Yunhan, revealing surprise and intense curiosity.

“What a beautiful girl! Why did you bring a girl here? I never thought you’d have a girl by your side… I remember you always hated being around girls when you were young.”

“Hello, Second Uncle.” Wu Xiuxiu hesitated for a moment, seeing Qin Hong staring at her intently, before bowing politely and calling out sweetly.

She had been unsure whether to address him as Deputy Director Qin or Second Uncle. Ultimately, she decided that Second Uncle sounded more intimate and respectful.

She was here with her partner today to get their marriage certificate. She was about to become his wife, so calling Deputy Director Qin”Second Uncle” seemed appropriate.

This “Second Uncle” seemed unaware of her partner’s injury. He hadn’t shown any concern for his health.

Qin Hong was surprised and confused when he heard Wu Xiuxiu call him Second Uncle. He looked at Jiang Yunhan with a questioning gaze.

“She’s my partner—Wu Xiuxiu. I brought her here today to register our marriage and get our marriage certificate.” Jiang Yunhan introduced Wu Xiuxiu before Qin Hong could ask.
