Chapter 22: Running to Find His Wife
Huo Yunshu couldn’t hold it in anymore—right now, he wanted to kill Ruan Jiaojiao! But deep down, he couldn’t bring himself to do it; in fact, he still felt a trace of pity for her.
Then he recalled Ruan Xiaodie’s persuasion and remembered the purpose of his visit. Forcing himself to calm down, he put on a smile and said to Ruan Jiaojiao:
“Jiaojiao, I know—you’re angry with me. What I did to you before wasn’t right. You gave me all your heart, and yet I kept brushing you off coldly. That was my fault.”
“Now, I’ve realized my mistake. Would you be willing to start over with me? Or… even if we change the kind of relationship we have, starting anew wouldn’t be impossible either…”
Heh, Huo Yunshu thought he was being very cultured. His words were poetic and refined—what girl wouldn’t be moved?
After all, Ruan Jiaojiao had once loved him deeply.
So Huo Yunshu didn’t even care about the reek of urine on his body. He still forced himself into the role of a soulful, artistic man, trying to win her back.
In his mind, Ruan Jiaojiao would burst into tears at his confession, throw away those two little brats, rush into his arms, and cry out: “Huo Yunshu, you finally accept me! I’m so happy! I’ll have your babies!”
But instead, Ruan Jiaojiao looked at him as if he were an idiot.
Dabao and Xiaobao clutched tightly at their mama’s hands. Truth be told, the two little beans were terrified inside.
They knew how much Ruan Jiaojiao used to like Huo Yunshu. Now that he wanted her back, what if he stole their mama away?
Too hateful! This Huo Yunshu was just too hateful! Xiaobao even wanted to run up and bite him to death!
But he couldn’t let go of Ruan Jiaojiao’s hand. What if he did, and mama disappeared?
The two boys exchanged a nervous glance, but neither dared to speak and break the tension. Their hearts thumped wildly, afraid their mama would change her mind.
Ruan Jiaojiao, however, only cast a disdainful look at Huo Yunshu and coldly snorted:
“Huo Yunshu, what makes you think that just because you come back, I have to be here waiting for you? Back when I froze in the wind and snow all night waiting for you, what were you doing?”
“You were laughing at my ignorance together with the other educated youths!”
“Now I don’t like you anymore. I have my own family. I even warned you not to disturb my life. But you—why don’t you understand human speech?”
“I’ll say this one last time: I like Fu Ting! Only Fu Ting! I want to live my life well with him! If you dare to seduce another man’s wife again, what I pour on your head next time won’t just be boy’s urine!”
Huo Yunshu: “…”
His face flushed red, then turned pale.
A man’s dignity had been utterly trampled under Ruan Jiaojiao’s feet. But he still couldn’t lose face completely, so he forced out:
“Ruan Jiaojiao, I… I’m not saying you’re the only one for me… You just wait! Today you scorn me, but tomorrow I’ll be someone you can’t even reach!”
“With what? Your mouth? You mutt?” Ruan Jiaojiao sneered, hands on her hips, looking every inch the fierce little shrew who would never look back.
Huo Yunshu: “Ruan Jiaojiao!”
Ruan Jiaojiao flexed her wrist. “Huo Yunshu, I seem to recall telling you—when you see me, you’re supposed to call me Grand-aunt! Is your mutt memory really that bad? Hm?”
Seeing her little pink fists, the memory of pain shot through him again. Huo Yunshu shivered, nearly wetting himself.
He stumbled a step back—his instincts screamed that this Grand-aunt was not to be messed with!
Meanwhile, meddlesome Ruan Xiaodie had already gone to find Gu Yun.
“Brother Gu Yun~” she drawled. “Oh, there’s something… I don’t know if I should tell you. If I say it, people will think I’m a gossip. But if I don’t, my conscience won’t let me rest!”
Gu Yun: “…” What’s wrong with your brain?
He didn’t want to pay her any mind, but she persisted:
“You’re close with my cousin’s husband, right? Well… I really should keep this secret for my cousin, but I just can’t… Fine, I’ll tell you! Today, Educated Youth Huo went to confess to my cousin! She’s always liked him so much—she’ll definitely agree! You’d better warn her husband so he stays alert!”
“Oh, and don’t say it was me who told you~”
Ruan Xiaodie deliberately wanted Fu Ting to know. Best case, he’d fly into a rage and beat Ruan Jiaojiao.
Why… why did Ruan Jiaojiao get everything? Parents, husband, sons… Why her? Just because she was born into the right family? Ha! Ruan Xiaodie didn’t believe in fate.
She wanted Ruan Jiaojiao to suffer domestic abuse and live worse than her—that would finally make her feel satisfied.
So, she stirred trouble between Ruan Jiaojiao and Fu Ting.
“Really, don’t say I told you~” she reminded again.
She didn’t want Fu Ting thinking she was a gossip or a troublemaker.
Gu Yun nodded, then immediately turned to the mountain and shouted:
“Fu Ting! Your wife’s cousin Ruan Xiaodie says Huo Yunshu confessed to your wife!”
Ruan Xiaodie: “…”
Her whole face darkened!
“You—you can’t do that! You promised you wouldn’t tell!” she cried, her voice tinged with sobs. But somehow, her tone sounded more like she was coquettishly whining.
Gu Yun’s temples throbbed. “Ruan Xiaodie, do you have a slipper stuck in your throat? Straighten your tongue before you talk to me, will you?”
Ruan Xiaodie: “…”
So annoying! Gu Yun was just another rough man, utterly incapable of cherishing a delicate beauty like her!
“Gu Yun, you’re awful!” she huffed, covering her face.
A normal man would find her cute and try to comfort her, right? But Gu Yun was different—he was straighter than steel. All he wanted to do was kick her and make her act like a proper human being.
Just then, Fu Ting came down the mountain.
He didn’t spare Ruan Xiaodie a glance. Instead, he said directly to Gu Yun: “Let’s go.”
Gu Yun: “Go where?”
“Home to save your sister-in-law! She’s such a fragile girl—how could she deal with a man by herself?”
Gu Yun: “…” Fragile?
Brother Ting, you must seriously misunderstand your wife.
Still, Gu Yun couldn’t help asking: “Brother Ting, Huo Yunshu wants her back—aren’t you worried she’ll leave you for him?”
After all, in the past, Ruan Jiaojiao had used the food coupons Fu Ting worked himself ragged all year to earn, only to secretly give them to Huo Yunshu. She had even complained that Fu Ting didn’t earn enough!
Forget Fu Ting—even Gu Yun, just remembering her past actions, thought the woman had been a total piece of work.
But Fu Ting pressed his lips together and said firmly:
“I’m not worried.”
“—A woman who’s seen a lone wolf would never fall in love with a stray mutt.”
What was his—no one could ever take away.
