Chapter 13: Be obedient and don’t cry, I still have it
Chen Yu turned around and saw Shen Yueying had bought a lot of steaming hot buns, only using a layer of kraft paper as padding, so hot that she kept switching them between her hands, begging for help.
He hurriedly reached out to take them, asking in confusion, “Didn’t you make chicken soup? Why did you buy buns again, and so many of them?”
Just then, someone from the Gu family came out of a clinic not far away. Afraid of being seen, Shen Yueying coquettishly pulled him to the window at the end of the corridor.
Then, she pretended to scold him, “Chicken soup, you wish! The chicken soup is for Grandma to nourish her body, there’s none for you! You’ve been running around, you must be starving, right? Try it and see if it’s tasty.”
Although her tone was unkind, she was sincere. Chen Yu nodded, “Thank you, I’m not hungry yet…”
“Eat! Your friends and that little girl are taking care of Grandma, what are you worried about? Eat your fill first!” Shen Yueying interrupted him, approaching him with a charming smile, “Chive and egg filling, it’s your favorite, right? I just don’t know how good they make it at this hospital. I make it delicious, I’ll make it for you slowly in the future, okay?”
Faced with his eloquent fiancée, Chen Yu was a little at a loss.
This woman was scheming, deep, and good at using sweet words and fake smiles to deceive others. Being with her required constant vigilance, which was very tiring.
But she was the woman his parents had chosen, clever, smart, and good at managing the household. He was a soldier stationed away from home all year round, so whether he liked her or not wasn’t very important. It was best if she was suitable.
After eating a few buns in silence, he couldn’t help but say, “I’m finished eating, I’m going in to take a look.”
“What’s the rush?” Shen Yueying looked at the examination department not far away, “The examination isn’t finished yet, they won’t open the door, it’s no use going over there.”
“Is that so?” He had seen several groups of people going in and out, Chen Yu asked doubtfully, “Are you sure it’s in this clinic?”
“What do you mean? Don’t you believe me?” Shen Yueying knew that this guy was from the special forces, calm and meticulous, and would notice anything wrong immediately. She immediately got angry and shouted, “What would I lie to you for! Your friend and that little girl are like glue, like a couple in love, it’s not good for us to go over there!”
Chen Yu glanced at her sideways, his eyes instantly darkened, and a cold light seemed to flicker in his deep gaze. Although he didn’t say anything, people could feel his displeasure.
Shen Yueying was very used to it.
This man was such a blockhead in his previous life, he wouldn’t argue or fight no matter how unhappy he was. So whenever he wanted to leave, she would say a few words appropriately. If he didn’t listen, she would shout, keeping him waiting in the corridor all the time.
Until the pager on Chen Yu’s belt suddenly rang.
He looked down at it, and when he looked up again, he saw that there was still no movement inside the iron gate. He wanted to say something but stopped.
“Are you going on an emergency mission?” Shen Yueying hurriedly reached out to grab him, “Is it the one your dad mentioned, those rogue gangs not far from here with homemade guns?! You can’t go, it’s too dangerous! And… and your parents haven’t come back yet, if something happens to Grandma, I… I… I didn’t bring too much money!”
Chen Yu looked at her with a puzzled expression, wondering how Dad would tell her about military matters.
After thinking for a moment, he replied in a deep voice, “I’m a soldier, orders are above everything else.” Then he took out the passbook that Wu Zheng had given him from his pocket, “Give this passbook to my friend, keep the money for yourself, Mom and Dad will be here tomorrow, don’t worry.”
Wu Zheng’s passbook was from a rural bank, the kind that could be withdrawn without a password. He had long heard that the Shen family was profit-oriented, and her words just now were clearly asking for money.
Chen Yu wanted to test her to see if this woman was as gentle and virtuous as she seemed, or as the rumors said.
Shen Yueying immediately took the passbook, pouting reluctantly, “Then… be careful, I’ll take care of Grandma, don’t worry.”
“Thank you.” Chen Yu responded and left downstairs.
Shen Yueying stood by the window, watching him from afar, until his car drove away. Only then did she immediately put away her reluctant expression and open the passbook.
When she saw the amount inside, her eyes lit up!
More than five thousand yuan! That was equivalent to more than ten years of income for their family farming!
“Now my dowry is worthy of the Gu family!” Shen Yueying’s lips curled into a smug smile, “Although his grandma’s illness came much earlier than I expected, the day he went on that mission really didn’t change… I never thought that I, Shen Yueying, would have such foresight!”
She had been reborn, and because she was Chen’s daughter-in-law in her previous life, she knew more about the Chen family than even the Gu family.
She had calculated that Chen Yu would leave today because of a mission, and she had also anticipated that he would trust her enough to hand over the money to her.
Looking at the passbook in her hand, Shen Yueying seemed to see her future luxurious life. She turned around and went to the hospital’s supply and marketing cooperative to choose some high-end tonics for Gu’s grandma!
……
On the other side, after Grandma was wheeled back to the ward, the doctor saw that the old lady was still unconscious and ordered an electrocardiogram and some other tests.
Shen Rongrong subconsciously touched her pocket for the money that was completely insufficient… but found it was empty!
Wu Zheng was looking at the food Chen Yu had brought back, realizing that he had returned and guessing that he might have gone out to look for them and they had gotten separated.
He turned around and saw the little girl crying while looking around for something.
“What’s wrong?”
“My money… is gone!”
Shen Rongrong couldn’t find it anywhere. She carefully recalled when she had touched the money. She remembered that she still had it before the examination, and she was so anxious that tears were streaming down her face.
“It’s okay, it’s okay.” Fortunately, Wu Zheng had taken some cash when he went home to get the passbook yesterday. He comforted her nonchalantly, “It’s just over a hundred yuan, if it’s lost, it’s lost, don’t worry about it.”
“Pork is only a little over a yuan a pound…” Shen Rongrong wiped her tears with a pout, “That’s so much money! I’m worried!”
“Those are the prices in your village, the money in the city is worthless. Listen to me, don’t cry, look, I have some here.” Wu Zheng really casually took out several hundred-yuan bills from his pocket, “Take them all and use them.”
“That’s…” Shen Rongrong glanced at him, sobbing, “Your money.”
“I have a lot of money.” Wu Zheng was very easy to talk to. While wiping away her tears with his fingertips, he happily emptied all his money again, “Just consider it a loan from me, pay me back when you have it!”
He felt that the title of (Big Fool) above his head was shining even brighter.
But this was also the first time he had successfully touched her little face… the touch was even smoother under the lubrication of tears. Wu Zheng secretly rejoiced, thinking that if Chen Yu were here, he might not have had this opportunity.
But he still had to find someone. Why hadn’t he come back after leaving him outside?
After comforting the little girl and telling her to eat her meal obediently, he excused himself to go pay the fees and went to look for Chen Yu.
But he didn’t see him anywhere, and the car parked in front of the hospital gate had also driven away!
Wu Zheng felt uneasy. Thinking that Chen Yu had brought a pager with him this time he came back on a mission, he immediately walked towards the supply and marketing cooperative, preparing to call the paging station to forward a message to him to ask what was going on.
In the blink of an eye, he ran into a woman at the supply and marketing cooperative who was paying for a large pile of tonics, looking like she was robbing the place.
The woman was taking out money from her pocket to count, and coincidentally, a passbook with a small heart drawn on it was revealed in her pocket.
Wu Zheng’s eyes tightened. The heart on the passbook was drawn by his mother when she was bored, saying that it was his love savings. He couldn’t be mistaken! He directly snatched the passbook from the woman’s pocket!
When he opened it, sure enough, the account name was his own mother!
The woman frowned and looked up. Just as she was about to start cursing, she saw his expression and panicked for some reason. She wanted to slip away, but Wu Zheng grabbed her wrist!
“What are you running for? Where did this passbook come from?!”
