Transmigrated Three Years Into the Future and Became My Archenemy’s Wife Chapter 7

Chapter 07: The Double Sharp Sign

Chen Shu Yin only shifted her position and moved aside, keeping a safe distance from him, after seeing that he was speaking in an orderly manner.

The intimacy they had outside the door was gone. “I won’t beat around the bush with you.”

“First, I came from three years ago. Before arriving at this time, you were filming with a crew by the Si Shui River, a fire broke out in the set, and you died in the fire trying to save a dog. Second, I personally saw your corpse, but now, three years later, you’re alive and well. So, did you never die in the first place? Third—”

Before she could finish speaking, Pei Yu pressed his palm to her forehead, then checked his own to compare. After confirming she wasn’t running a fever or showing any abnormalities, he grabbed her wrist. “Baby, take a break first. I’m going to call Liu Yiran.”

“Hey? Listen to me first!” Chen Shu Yin tugged at his sleeve.

But Pei Yu was quick to dial the call.

“Hello?”

“Reporter Liu, did anything happen to Yin Yin today?” Pei Yu got straight to the point.

“Oh… well, yes, there was something.” Liu Yiran sounded hesitant, as if worried about getting blamed afterward. “The staff checking the equipment was an intern, not very experienced. He gave Shu Yin a faulty headset with sound leakage. She was electrocuted by the current and cried for a long time.”

Pei Yu’s eyes darkened, and the muscles on the side of his face tensed. The air pressure in the room sank.

“I only sent her back after making sure she was okay. Is she having some kind of reaction now?” Liu Yiran’s voice grew weaker.

“More than that,” Pei Yu’s voice was low and held barely restrained anger. “She’s talking nonsense now.”

“Huh?” Liu Yiran gasped, then fell silent for a long time before exclaiming, “She did seem different after taking off the headset… Could it have shocked her central nervous system? Call a doctor immediately, I’m coming over now!”

Pei Yu hung up and immediately made another call, issuing a few instructions before hanging up again. He sighed, then cupped Chen Shu Yin’s cheeks, pulling her close to examine her ears. He gently rubbed her earlobe. “Does it still hurt?”

Chen Shu Yin shook her head blankly. Great. No one believed her.

She tried to convince him. “Pei Yu, I’m telling the truth. If I’m lying, let lightning strike me—”

“Mmm.”

Her words were muffled by his palm covering her mouth. Pei Yu’s deep gaze was unreadable as he refused to let her continue speaking.

“The doctor will be here soon. I won’t let anything happen to you.”

Chen Shu Yin was exhausted from dealing with his tender, affectionate expression. She simply turned her back on him, slumped onto the sofa, and gave up struggling.

Her sharp eyes caught sight of a round mirror, buried under a thick pile of books on the sandalwood table. She retrieved it and tilted her neck to check her reflection, wiping at the red mark he had left with his teeth. Instead of fading, it only became more prominent the more she rubbed it.

Disheartened, she lowered her gaze and pushed the mirror aside. It knocked a book hanging off the table’s edge.

The thick, white-covered book fell open on the floor, revealing its title in bold print—“Chang Feng Ci” Script.

Hearing the sound, Pei Yu knelt on one knee in front of her, gripping both of her arms in concern. His eyes, filled with worry, made Chen Shu Yin’s gaze dart away uncomfortably.

She pointed at the script on the floor. “I want to take a look at this. Is that okay?”

“What’s mine is yours. No need to be polite with me.” Pei Yu picked up the script and handed it to her, a flicker of confusion crossing his eyes. “You kept me company last night for hours reading this. Did you forget?”

Was his idea of role-playing referring to acting out roles from his script?

Chen Shu Yin absentmindedly flipped through the pages in front of him. The story had a hint of fantasy, a historical romance. The male lead was probably the role he was about to play, and the female lead was the female general he had mentioned.

Her long lashes lowered as she quietly read, resembling the way she had curled up in his arms the previous night, exchanging lines with him.

Seeing her revert to that state, Pei Yu’s tense heart relaxed slightly. His lips curved into a faint smile as he reached out to cup her face.

But before he could touch her, Chen Shu Yin abruptly sprang back, retreating to the farthest corner of the sofa, her eyes filled with a wary softness that pricked at his heart.

What was going on?

She had only been gone for a few hours at work, and now she was acting like a completely different person.

Why was she looking at him with that expression again—resisting him, avoiding him?

The smile that had just started to form on Pei Yu’s lips vanished. He lowered his gaze, looking away to hide the embarrassment creeping up on him.

Come to think of it, this attitude of hers was familiar. It had just been a long time since he last saw it.

Except for the moment before they signed their marriage certificate, when she hesitated and asked if they should postpone the wedding, she had never shown such reluctance toward him again.

Pei Yu parted his lips, about to ask something, but the doorbell rang at that moment.

His Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed his words and stood up to answer the door.

“How’s Shu Yin?” Liu Yiran, seemingly out of breath from running, scanned the room anxiously.

Pei Yu didn’t answer and simply stepped aside to let the doctor and his team enter, carrying expensive medical equipment.

Liu Yiran rushed inside, only to find Chen Shu Yin sitting stiffly on the sofa.

She held up two fingers. “Baby, how many fingers am I holding up?”

Chen Shu Yin rolled her eyes and pushed her hand away. “I may be dumb, but I’m not an idiot.”

Liu Yiran sighed in relief and stuffed her hands back into her pockets. “Yep, it’s the same old Chen Shu Yin.”

The doctor set up the equipment and gestured for Chen Shu Yin to lie down.

In just a few minutes, Pei Yu had transformed his house into a mini medical examination room. He insisted on staying for the entire check-up, leaving Liu Yiran awkwardly waiting outside.

Chen Shu Yin was curious to know what was happening to her anyway.

She refused to believe she had simply imagined everything due to stress.

Half an hour later, the doctor laid the results in front of Pei Yu. Chen Shu Yin leaned in eagerly to see.

“Mr. Pei, all data indicates that Miss Chen is completely normal. There is nothing wrong with her.”

Pei Yu narrowed his eyes, his voice turning cold with subtle menace. “You’re sure? You’d better be sure.”

The doctor nodded firmly. “I wouldn’t risk my career on a lie.”

Pei Yu rubbed his temples, his gaze sinking into the test results before dismissing the doctor.

Chen Shu Yin exhaled in relief. “See? Now do you believe me?”

Liu Yiran exchanged a knowing glance with her, making a few hand gestures only the two of them understood—something about escaping before the dog food started flying again.

“Since it was just a false alarm, I’ll leave you two alone then.”

Chen Shu Yin reached forward to grab her, but Pei Yu intercepted her. “Where are you going?”

Liu Yiran waved goodbye and fled, leaving Chen Shu Yin and Pei Yu staring at each other.

“I just thought having more people would help brainstorm a solution,” she said, looking like a guilty student caught by a strict teacher.

Pei Yu’s voice carried an unmistakable edge of displeasure. “What solution? Convincing Liu Yiran that you’re from three years ago? That I died three years ago?”

“Wouldn’t it be faster for you to convince me instead?”

Pei Yu was quick-witted as always. Before she could even process his last sentence, he had already thrown out another.

His once gentle tone grew distant. “I don’t care if you’re the Chen Shu Yin from now or from three years ago. The final outcome will always be the same—”

“We will be married.”
