Chapter 105: Become My Daughter-in-Law
“Where are they now?”
Lady Leng immediately stood up.
“Just now, the young master’s servant came to report that the young master is only five miles away. He should be at the door soon.”
“This child, didn’t he say he’d arrive in two more days? Why is he here so early!”
Lady Leng was a little flustered, and it was clear that her joy at her son’s arrival was overwhelming her.
Ye Xin Ran immediately stood up to take her leave upon seeing this.
She didn’t want to disturb their family reunion.
The carriage had been prepared early.
Just as Ye Xin Ran was about to get into the carriage, she saw two fine horses speeding towards the entrance.
On the horses were two young men, one in black, the other in white.
Both had tall, elegant figures, exuding charm and grace.
The riders’ whips were raised high, and the horses came charging like arrows from a bow.
The young man in white was graceful and gentle, his demeanor warm and refined. The young man in black had a celestial air, aloof and distant.
What handsome young men!
Ye Xin Ran took just a quick glance before averting her gaze.
She lowered her head and climbed into the carriage, not noticing that the young man in black, as he passed, glanced deeply at her.
“Whoa!”
It wasn’t until they reached the gate of the Wei residence that the two young men reined in their horses and dismounted.
The young man in white, smiling, called out to the young man in black, “Brother Chang Qing, you lost! I overtook you at the last moment!”
He proudly boasted about his victory, but the young man in black didn’t respond to him.
Instead, his gaze was deep and focused on the departing carriage.
“What are you looking at?” The young man in white nudged him. “I think I saw a young lady getting into the carriage?”
Lu Chang Qing’s expression darkened.
He ignored Wei Jing Yi’s comment and turned to walk towards the courtyard.
Lady Leng had already come out to greet them. When she saw the young man in black, she quickly walked over and grabbed his hand, “Chang Qing, you’ve grown taller again.”
“Mother, he was this tall two years ago,” Wei Jing Yi followed behind, a hint of complaint in his tone.
“A few years ago, he seemed to shoot up like bamboo and suddenly became taller than me.”
“You two are tall enough! The journey must have been tiring, come inside. I’ve had people prepare Double Star Tea to help cool you down.”
Lady Leng said, smiling brightly.
Lu Chang Qing bowed to Lady Leng and obediently said, “Aunt, it’s been many years since we last met, and you look much better now.”
“Really?”
Lady Leng couldn’t help but touch her face when she heard this.
“I also think I look much better than before.”
“Jing Yi, what do you think?”
“Mother!”
Wei Jing Yi reached out and hugged his mother, “My mother is the most beautiful, always a young lady.”
“Not a word of truth!”
Lady Leng mockingly tapped his forehead, then beckoned both of them, “Come, let’s go inside, it’s hot outside.”
A maid brought in the chilled watermelon.
The two young men, full of vigor, entered the house with Lady Leng.
As they walked in, Lu Chang Qing, who was trailing behind, looked back before entering the door, noticing that the carriage had already turned the corner and was out of sight.
The two of them talked about the sights they saw on the road while drinking tea. Lady Leng looked at the two young men, becoming more and more fond of them.
After they drank tea and ate the watermelon, she finally spoke, “Chang Qing, how is your mother doing recently?”
“Same as always.”
Lu Chang Qing set down his teacup, his expression becoming more serious.
“The prescriptions have been changed repeatedly, but there’s still no improvement.
Recently, although she’s still sluggish, at least she hasn’t had any more coughing up blood, which is a good sign.”
“I wrote a letter before, wanting your mother to come stay with me for a few days. But she always declines, saying she doesn’t feel well and refuses to come.
Such a big marquis’ residence, whether she’s there or not, the family still eats and rests as usual, so why can’t she just let herself relax for a bit?”
“Now my sister is at the house helping my mother handle the finances. With my sister’s help, my mother can relax a bit more.”
Lu Chang Qing replied.
Lady Leng hummed softly after hearing this.
“That girl, Chang Xue, has always only listened to your father. Now that she’s helping your mother with the finances, she must have listened to your father’s orders. I wonder if they’re eyeing your mother’s dowry!”
As soon as Lady Leng finished speaking, Wei Jing Yi immediately spoke up, “Mother, what are you saying!”
Lady Leng glanced at Lu Chang Qing’s expression. Seeing that he remained calm, without any discomfort or anger, she sighed.
“You and Chang Xue are clearly twins, but why are you so different? She’s so petty and competitive, while you always act like you don’t care about anything.
If you two didn’t look alike, your personalities are worlds apart.
It’s really like one took after the father and the other took after the mother.”
“Fortunately, you still resemble your mother a bit, otherwise, I’d really feel sorry for her.”
“Mother, please stop. We just met, and you’re already talking about such unhappy things. If you keep going, Chang Qing will never come again.”
Wei Jing Yi complained again.
Everyone knew what Lady Leng was referring to, but no one wanted to bring it up.
Lu Chang Qing and Lu Chang Xue were the only children of Lord Lu and his wife, but it seemed that Lord Lu didn’t like Lu Chang Qing.
Over the years, he had spoiled his daughter more and more, but became increasingly indifferent towards his son.
Lady Leng observed this, and every time she brought it up, she would complain.
But after all, it wasn’t proper to interfere too much in other people’s family matters.
Lord Lu wasn’t particularly fond of Lu Chang Qing, but he treated his wife very well.
Although Chang Qing’s mother felt somewhat dissatisfied, they had been married for many years, and sometimes when she saw her husband unhappy, she would scold Chang Qing.
Over time, Lu Chang Qing’s personality became much colder.
Only in front of Lady Leng and Jing Yi did he show some of his true feelings.
Hearing her son’s complaints, Lady Leng stopped pursuing the topic and said instead, “It’s the season for hazelnuts to ripen now, and some wild pears and fruits are also ready to be picked. You young ones are swift on your feet, so when you go up the mountain to play, help me pick some.”
“Mother, we’re going up the mountain to hunt, not to pick wild fruits! Ask Father to do it.”
Wei Jing Yi refused.
Lady Leng was dissatisfied. “Your father is busy with the academy every day. And I’m this old already, what’s wrong with enjoying some of my son’s blessings?”
Wei Jing Yi sighed. “Alright, then I’ll go up the mountain with my cousin and pick some for you another day. If you can manage it, we’ll take you along too.”
“I can’t go. Miss Ye said that my health can’t handle too much exertion, and I need to rest properly.”
Lady Leng refused.
“Miss Ye? Mother, which young lady have you befriended again?”
Wei Jing Yi asked.
“Young lady? She’s the doctor who’s treating me!” Lady Leng said proudly.
“A female doctor?”
“Yes!”
Lady Leng looked at her son. “You’re not looking down on female doctors, are you?
Let me tell you, Miss Ye not only has excellent medical skills, a kind heart, and is beautiful, but she also has a great head for business. It’s just a shame…”
“A shame about what?” Wei Jing Yi asked.
“A shame that she’s already married! Otherwise, I’d really want her to be my daughter-in-law!”
