Chapter 127: Enrollment
Qing Shan Academy has a rule.
Only students who pass the entrance exam conducted by the dean are allowed to enter the academy to study.
Upon arriving at the academy entrance, the teacher took Chang Sheng inside to find Dean Wei.
Ye Xin Ran and Xiao Huai’an stayed outside to wait for the result.
They had arrived early, right at the time when the students were coming out for breakfast.
The academy also had a canteen.
However, the students had grown tired of the food in the canteen and preferred to go outside for something different.
There were four food stalls at the entrance, with the one selling wontons having the most people gathered around.
The owner of the wonton stall was a middle-aged man dressed simply.
He wore clean clothes and had a towel wrapped around his head as he counted wontons from a prepared food box.
Each bowl had ten wontons, not too large, but enough for breakfast.
Seven or eight students were gathered around a temporary wooden table eating wontons. They all wore the same style of uniform, but two young men in the group stood out because they wore black and white clothes, looking very conspicuous.
It was unclear what brought them here.
As Ye Xin Ran looked around, Xiao Huai’an asked, “There’s a stall selling longan porridge over there. Shall we have a bowl?”
Longan porridge was made with red dates, peanuts, longan, and glutinous rice, providing rich ingredients and a sweet taste.
Their breakfast had been simple, so a bowl of porridge would be perfect to enjoy.
As they passed by the wonton stall, the young man in black seemed to sense something. He suddenly looked up and stared at Ye Xin Ran’s back.
Even after they sat down, his gaze did not leave.
“What are you looking at?”
Wei Jing Yi turned his head to look as well.
He happened to see Xiao Huai’an and his wife sitting down.
He couldn’t help but admire them in his heart. A handsome man and a beautiful woman, such a perfect couple!
Though he had seen more beautiful people before, he had never seen someone as focused as Chang Qing.
“Nothing.”
Lu Chang Qing withdrew his gaze.
He lowered his head and continued eating his wontons, but he gripped the spoon tightly.
Was it her?
The person he had seen in front of the Wei residence last time must have been her.
Why did he always feel his heart race every time he saw her?
Lu Chang Qing raised his head again and took another look at Ye Xin Ran’s profile.
He couldn’t help but doubt his own orientation.
Could it be that the reason he never wanted to get engaged before was because he liked married women?
Wei Jing Yi didn’t pay attention, and was completely unaware of the explosive thoughts that Lu Chang Qing had on the other side of the table.
Meanwhile, Ye Xin Ran, at another table, also felt uncomfortable.
She touched her chest, looking around in confusion.
Xiao Huai’an quickly asked, “What’s wrong?”
Ye Xin Ran hadn’t noticed anything unusual and could only shake her head.
“Nothing, maybe it’s just because I’m too nervous about Chang Sheng.”
After finishing the wontons, Wei Jing Yi asked, “The holiday given by Tian Xiang Academy is almost over. What are you going to do?
Are you going to stay at Qing Shan Academy and study under my father, or are you going back?
If you’re going back, we need to leave in the next few days.”
Wei Jing Yi wanted to stay here. His mother’s health had improved a lot, and his father had agreed to let him stay.
He felt studying here would be better.
However, if his cousin wanted to go back, he was also willing to return with him.
After all, the two of them had studied together since childhood, and his cousin could still help him copy books.
Lu Chang Qing had been hesitating.
Wei Jing Yi thought that he would give the same excuse as before.
To his surprise, he agreed.
“Then stay. There’s no point in going back to the capital.”
“Exactly, it’s much better to stay here!” Wei Jing Yi was very happy. “When we were kids, my father always praised you for being smart!
He’ll definitely be happy if you stay.
Tian Xiang Academy is good, but in terms of level, my father is definitely not worse than those teachers.
You stay, and Auntie and them won’t object.”
Lu Chang Qing nodded.
However, his gaze unintentionally shifted back to Ye Xin Ran.
This woman is so special, I really want to get to know her.
…
Chang Sheng’s exam went smoothly.
After Ye Xin Ran and Xiao Huai’an finished their porridge, they sat for a while longer, and then Mr. Xie came out of the academy with Chang Sheng.
Both of them looked extremely pleased.
Ye Xin Ran didn’t need to ask, she already knew the result.
“Did the dean say when you should report?” Ye Xin Ran asked.
Chang Sheng widened his eyes. “Aunt, you didn’t even ask, how did you already know the dean is willing to accept me?”
“Keep talking like that, and everyone on the road will know.”
Xiao Huai’an answered for Ye Xin Ran.
“Then I won’t laugh anymore!”
Chang Sheng said, then smiled again.
Mr. Xie spoke up: “Qing Shan Academy enrolls a new batch of students every September. The dean said that he should come to report in the next few days.”
“Alright, is there anything I need to prepare? Could you please make a list for me, Mr. Xie? I’ll get everything ready and send him over.”
The group left happily, in high spirits.
The passing students didn’t notice them.
Except for Lu Chang Qing.
Seeing the group leave in the carriage, he suddenly said to Wei Jing Yi, “Since you’re staying to study, we should go back and tell Aunt and Uncle, and you can enroll tomorrow.”
Wei Jing Yi replied, “Why hurry? Let’s play for a couple more days! But cousin, even if it’s under my father’s nose, you still have to help me copy books!”
Lu Chang Qing didn’t comment on that.
Copying books was nothing to him.
However, since Jing Yi dared to stay, his father should probably give him a good lesson.
Three days later, Lu Chang Qing and Wei Jing Yi came to the academy to register, officially becoming members of the academy.
It wasn’t until two days later that Lu Chang Qing finally found Chang Sheng’s figure.
He remembered Chang Sheng at first sight, and the little guy was placed in the junior class, separated by only one courtyard. It seemed like it wouldn’t be easy to get familiar with him.
He wanted to talk to Chang Sheng, but he didn’t want to seem too abrupt.
So, whenever he had the chance, he followed him from a distance, hoping to find an opportunity to get acquainted.
Wei Jing Yi quickly noticed something was off.
Back in the capital, Lu Chang Qing ignored everything and everyone, focusing solely on his studies. He didn’t care about anyone.
But ever since they came to the academy, he kept his eyes on one particular boy.
Could it be that Chang Qing had developed some kind of problem?
So, when Lu Chang Qing followed Chang Sheng, Wei Jing Yi followed him.
The situation resembled a mantis hunting a cicada, with the yellow bird waiting behind.
Until one day, when Wei Jing Yi saw the figures of the two in front of him suddenly disappear, he quickly took two steps and caught up.
However, after turning the corner, he saw Chang Sheng standing in front of him with his hands on his hips.
