Chapter 163: Blood Test for Paternity
Leng Qing Yu informed Ye Xin Ran of their decision.
“Xin Ran, it’s not that I doubt you. It’s just that the Marquis is rather stubborn and insists on a blood test to acknowledge you.
I’ve decided that, no matter what happens in the future, I want to bring you back and give you a rightful place in the Lu family.
That way, it will be easier for me to handle things if I have any plans later on.”
Ye Xin Ran didn’t hesitate and immediately agreed.
Since Madam Lu had assured her that she would handle everything, Xin Ran was willing to cooperate with her requests.
“I have no objections. Does the Marquis plan to witness this in person?”
“Yes!” Leng Qing Yu replied, her expression slightly awkward.
“To convince him completely, he must witness the process with his own eyes.”
“Then let the Marquis draw the blood. Since he’s already here, he shouldn’t just be a by stander,” Ye Xin Ran suggested.
“That’s a great idea!” Leng Qing Yu said, suddenly enlightened.
Previously, she had only thought of using her own blood to test with Xin Ran’s. As long as it proved they were mother and daughter, the matter would be settled.
She hadn’t considered that Xin Ran might suggest such an approach.
Proving they were father and daughter would be even more convincing than proving they were mother and daughter.
“Once it’s proven that you are his daughter, let’s see if he has anything else to say!” Leng Qing Yu declared.
“Then, Madam Lu, pick a date. I’m free these days and can come in person,” Ye Xin Ran replied.
It was just a drop of blood, after all, and Xin Ran wasn’t one to make a fuss about such things.
Over the past few days, Madam Lu had sent her plenty of jewelry, bedding, and furniture. It would be impossible for her not to feel moved.
Emotionally and logically, it was only right for her to go.
However, her suggestion to have the Marquis personally verify the test wasn’t about being more convincing, it was about “blood types”.
With Lu Chang Qing’s help, Ye Xin Ran had obtained blood samples from both the Marquis and Leng Qing Yu.
The Marquis had “B blood type”, Leng Qing Yu had “A blood type”, and she herself was “B blood type”.
Only compatible blood types could blend.
To make them believe, she had to conduct the test with the Marquis.
“Great! I’m so glad you agreed. I’ll go back and inform the Marquis right away so we can conduct the blood test as soon as possible,” Leng Qing Yu said happily.
“But let me make one thing clear first,” Ye Xin Ran added. “Even if the blood test proves successful, I won’t be going back with you.”
“Of course not. You’re already grown up and have your own life to live.”
“In the past, you had to rely on yourself. Now that I’m here, I’ll make sure you live the life you want to live!”
Leng Qing Yu quickly agreed.
Ye Xin Ran had no objections.
On the Marquis’s side, he naturally agreed without hesitation as well.
Two days later, Ye Xin Ran, accompanied by Xiao Huai’an, arrived at the rear courtyard of the Wei family.
Wei Jing Zhi and Wei Jing Yi had gone to the academy early in the morning.
Lu Chang Qing, however, had taken the day off to stay home and await the results of the blood test.
This was Ye Xin Ran’s first time meeting Marquis Lu.
He was tall and imposing, dressed in a dark robe with cloud patterns embroidered on the wide sleeves.
Though he was older, his demeanor and movements still reflected the charm and elegance of his youth, exuding a calm steadiness that surpassed even Lu Chang Qing, who stood beside him.
Ye Xin Ran thought to herself, “He does look like quite a character, no wonder he managed to captivate Madam Lu to that extent.”
Beside the Marquis stood a young girl dressed in a pale yellow gauze outfit, her hair styled in a slightly tilted bun. She appeared obedient and well-mannered, though the expression on her face hinted at a certain sharpness.
As Ye Xin Ran observed them, the two of them also turned their attention to her.
The Marquis was visibly taken aback.
Although he had heard many times that Ye Xin Ran bore a striking resemblance to Leng Qing Yu, hearing about it was nothing compared to seeing it in person.
Through Ye Xin Ran, he seemed to catch a glimpse of the 18-year-old Leng Qing Yu, innocent, kind, and pure.
Leng Qing Yu, who hadn’t seen Ye Xin Ran for several days, immediately pulled her aside to speak privately.
Lu Zhi Yi, standing nearby, couldn’t help but purse her lips.
The purpose of this meeting was the blood test for paternity.
Once everyone was gathered, the Marquis said, “The reason we invited Miss Ye here today is because both Madam and my son believe that Miss Ye is a member of the Lu family. Now that I’ve seen her in person, I have my doubts as well. To ensure that no Lu family bloodline is left a drift, we must trouble Miss Ye to provide a drop of blood for verification.”
His tone was polite.
Ye Xin Ran didn’t say much and simply nodded in agreement.
A servant immediately brought over a tray with two bowls of water.
“Why are there two bowls?”
Leng Qing Yu asked in surprise.
The Marquis explained, “If Madam suspects that Miss Ye is her biological daughter, then doesn’t that mean Zhi Yi might not be?”
“I thought, since we’re going to verify anyway, we might as well test everything to prevent any lingering doubts in the future.”
“Alright,” Leng Qing Yu nodded in agreement.
Previously, she hadn’t suggested including Lu Zhi Yi in the test because she was worried about hurting Zhi Yi’s feelings.
Now that the Marquis had proposed it, and Zhi Yi seemed willing, Leng Qing Yu thought it was a good opportunity to clarify everything.
“Then let’s have Miss Ye go first,” the Marquis said, gesturing politely.
Ye Xin Ran stepped forward and saw three silver needles placed beside the water bowls.
It was clear that the Marquis had prepared for all three to participate in the test from the beginning.
Ye Xin Ran didn’t quite understand his intentions but picked up one of the silver needles, pricked her finger tip, and squeezed out a drop of blood into one of the bowls.
The drop of blood fell into the water and slowly sank to the bottom.
The Marquis stepped forward next, mimicking Ye Xin Ran’s actions. He pricked his own finger with a needle and let a larger drop of blood fall into the same bowl.
The onlookers were visibly tense, with the servants craning their necks to see the result.
Leng Qing Xin, who had been trying to reassure her elder sister, suddenly grew nervous as the blood dropped into the bowl.
“I can’t just stand here, I need to see the result for myself!” she exclaimed, stepping closer to the table.
Leng Qing Yu, however, stayed calm. She waved Ye Xin Ran over and gently asked, “Does it hurt? Let me blow on it for you.”
Ye Xin Ran, unfazed, held up her finger, now free of blood. “It’s fine, it’s not bleeding anymore!”
While Leng Qing Yu was just beginning to feel relieved, Leng Qing Xin’s voice rang out in confusion.
“Huh? How can this be?”
“What’s wrong?” Leng Qing Yu’s heart tightened.
“Sister, come look! The two drops of blood didn’t merge at all!”
“How is that possible?”
Not only was Leng Qing Yu puzzled, but Ye Xin Ran was also baffled.
Lu Chang Qing, watching from the side, shouted, “That’s impossible!”
The group hurried over to the table and looked into the bowl.
At the bottom of the pristine white bowl, the two drops of blood rested separately, their edges distinct. There was no sign of merging what so ever.
