Chapter 169: Leave With Your Daughter
The guards are different from the household servants.
The guards’ job is to protect the Marquis.
At times like this, they should risk their lives and rush forward.
However, they knew that the Marquis valued his wife the most. When the wife spoke, no one dared to move.
Marquis Lu was stunned.
He never expected that, when he was injured, Leng Qing Yu would react this way.
Before this, even if he had a slight headache or fever, Leng Qing Yu would worry for a long time and wouldn’t even eat.
But now, his face was swollen, and his tooth was knocked out. She just glanced at him and said that she had calmed down.
Marquis Lu suddenly felt uncomfortable.
It felt like something precious was slipping away, something he couldn’t hold onto or regain.
“Cough, cough.”
He coughed twice, covering his mouth.
Seeing that Leng Qing Yu still hadn’t reacted, he waved his hand at the guards. “Didn’t you hear what Madam said? It’s more important for Madam to calm down than anything else.”
“All of you, step back!”
The guards all stepped back and disappeared into the shadows.
The maids and servants looked at the situation from afar but didn’t dare to approach.
Leng Qing Yu appeared heartless, but inside, it felt like a needle was pricking her heart.
But she knew that she couldn’t be softhearted.
“Marquis, this is the Wei family estate. From now on, I will move to stay with my daughter. You should pack up and hurry back to the capital!”
Leng Qing Yu didn’t want to face him.
More importantly, she didn’t know how to deal with this situation.
Marquis Lu wanted to try to persuade her.
He deliberately turned his injured half face toward Leng Qing Yu to show her.
“Qing Yu, do you really want me to leave like this?”
His words were unclear because of the injury to his mouth.
He looked really pitiful.
Leng Qing Yu couldn’t help but feel heartache, but she still turned her gaze away.
“You have business to handle in the capital, you were going to leave anyway. Hurry up and take your daughter with you.”
Lu Zhi Yi understood clearly.
She said “your daughter,” not “our daughter.”
Having been someone else’s daughter for so many years, how could Lu Zhi Yi accept Leng Qing Yu abandoning her so quickly? She shouted, “Mother, don’t you like me anymore? I want to stay with you forever.”
“Lu Zhi Yi! Do you have no shame!”
Lu Chang Qing stood in front of Leng Qing Yu.
“This is my and my sister’s mother. Don’t you have a mother of your own? Go find your own mother!”
Leng Qing Yu had seen Lu Zhi Yi’s reaction just now, and although she couldn’t bring herself to say anything harsh to that face, she only said, “You’ve grown up with me, if you know who your real mother is, then go back to her!”
After speaking, Leng Qing Yu no longer paid attention to them, taking Ye Xin Ran’s hand and walking out.
She left the mess behind for her younger sister, knowing that her sister would handle it well.
As for herself, she kept a distance from the father and daughter.
She couldn’t stay, she was afraid she might once again fall for Marquis Lu’s sweet words and be deceived by his false affection.
Ye Xin Ran and Xiao Huai’an kept Leng Qing Yu separated from the others and walked to the carriage.
Xiao Huai’an cracked the whip and urged the horses on. The mother and daughter sat in the carriage, silently looking at each other.
“I…”
“Today…”
Both of them wanted to break the awkward silence and spoke at the same time.
Leng Qing Yu smiled, looking at her daughter, her mood improving greatly.
“What do you want to say? You go first.”
Ye Xin Ran thought for a moment and said, “Things have gotten so big today, and I didn’t discuss it with you beforehand. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to ruin your family or your life. I just couldn’t stand seeing someone deceive you.”
This was the truth.
If it had been someone else, Ye Xin Ran might have just turned a blind eye.
Leng Qing Yu reached out her hand and lovingly stroked Ye Xin Ran’s head.
Seeing that Ye Xin Ran didn’t resist, she gently applied pressure, letting Ye Xin Ran lean on her shoulder.
She then said, “How could I blame you? It’s my own fault for not judging people clearly, which caused you to suffer. If only, back then…”
Leng Qing Yu couldn’t finish her sentence.
Back then, she couldn’t tell that Marquis Lu was that kind of person.
Even now, she still couldn’t distinguish which of his words were true and which were false.
“By the way, your husband,” Leng Qing Yu gestured toward the outside of the carriage.
“He really is a man with guts. I thought he was the cold and distant type, someone who wouldn’t care about me, but to my surprise, he actually stood up for me.”
“Ah, him!”
Ye Xin Ran was a bit embarrassed.
“He’s the type to be cold on the outside but warm on the inside.”
Leng Qing Yu continued, “He seems to have some decent skills, though his personality is a bit rash. You should advise him not to act impulsively.”
“Okay!”
Ye Xin Ran quickly agreed, but inside, she felt even more embarrassed.
Just now, Xiao Huai’an had misunderstood, thinking that she wanted him to step in and help.
Luckily, nothing serious had happened.
Xiao Huai’an, outside the carriage, overheard the entire conversation between the two women.
Thinking about Ye Xin Ran’s embarrassed expression, he couldn’t help but curl the corners of his mouth.
Lu Ting En, he’d long wanted to hit him.
What he hated most in life were people who were two faced acting one way in front of their family and another behind their back.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t make a move under the public eye today. But when the chance came, he would make sure that Lord Lu felt what it was like to truly be beaten.
The carriage quickly returned to Yun Bian Village.
This time, they didn’t go back to the old house but headed straight to the new home.
Leng Qing Yu looked at the newly decorated house and nodded with satisfaction.
“So, you’ve already moved to a new house! Very nice, very nice! Next spring, plant some flowers and plants in the corners of the yard. Plant peach and apricot trees over there, they will look beautiful when they bloom!”
Ye Xin Ran nodded, “I was thinking of planting a peach tree too, and I’m planning to put up a grape trellis here.”
“Yes, planting grapes is a good idea too.”
Leng Qing Yu looked around and suggested a few more things before belatedly asking, “This is your new home, am I being too controlling?”
When she saw Xiao Huai’an also park the carriage and walk in, she added, “What I said about staying at your house was just an excuse. I won’t stay too long. Tomorrow, I plan to go to the temple and ask if there are any vacant rooms. I’ll stay in the temple for a while to clear my mind.”
“There are plenty of rooms at home. Madam, if you want peace of mind, why go that far!”
Ye Xin Ran knew that her mother felt uncomfortable staying at their house, so she said, “If you feel bad about it, how about preparing lunch for me tomorrow noon?”
Upon hearing her daughter’s words, Lady Lu’s eyes immediately lit up.
Back at the Marquis’s residence, she would occasionally cook. She could still make simple dishes.
Unfortunately, no one appreciated it back then, so she gave up after a few tries.
But now, with this opportunity, she could show off her cooking skills!
With Ye Xin Ran’s help, Lady Lu carefully prepared several dishes.
Bitter melon with cabbage, steamed bamboo shoots with eggs, cucumber and pork ribs, tofu sweet soup…
Ye Xin Ran didn’t know where Lady Lu had found such dark recipes.
She suddenly had a very bad feeling.
