Chapter 207: That Person Has a Problem
Chun Tao thought Miss was just being willful and didn’t expect her to ask such a question. She quickly replied with a smile:
“Miss, although the madam has treated you well these years, she is after all her own flesh and blood. You can still tell the difference.”
Hearing Chun Tao’s words, Lu Zhi Yi’s expression grew cold. “I even occasionally felt guilty, but now it seems that guilt is just a joke.”
Chun Tao quickly agreed, “Miss, Madam truly treats you well.”
“I know!”
Lu Zhi Yi turned around and glanced at the light in Leng Qing Yu’s courtyard and the two intimate figures before she turned and left without looking back.
After washing up, Leng Qing Yu and Ye Xin Ran slept together on the same bed.
Ding Qiao rested on a small couch in the outer room.
Ye Xin Ran, lying awake, thought about what happened earlier in the day and asked, “Mother, what do we do next? Do you really want me to enter the Lu family?”
Leng Qing Yu narrowed her eyes slightly. “I’ve already thought it through. The person who poisoned hasn’t been found yet, so we’ll leave that aside for now.
Right now, we need to have the Lu family acknowledge your identity and make it public. That way, you’ll be a well-known lady in the capital. With that identity, it will be much easier for you to do things in the capital.
The Lu family has nothing else to offer, the only thing they have of use is their name. Since Lu Ting En dared to scheme against me, I’ll make sure to get back everything they have taken.”
“What do I need to do?” Ye Xin Ran asked, eager to help.
“You don’t need to worry about things at home. Tomorrow, after the family tree is updated, I’ll take you around to choose a suitable shop.”
“Alright!” Ye Xin Ran replied.
The next morning, as the sky was still dim, Leng Qing Yu got up.
She had wanted to let Ye Xin Ran sleep in a little longer, but with people coming and going in the room, Ye Xin Ran knew today was important and got up early as well.
It was different from home.
At the Marquis’s residence, everything was attended to by maids.
As soon as Ye Xin Ran moved to the edge of the bed, a maid crouched down to help her put on her shoes.
Before long, another maid came in with water for washing her face and brushing her teeth.
After she finished washing, another maid brought in a hot breakfast.
After the meal, yet another maid came to style their hair and dress them.
In the countryside, Ye Xin Ran usually did her own simple hair do, just tying it up and securing it with a hairpin.
Today, however, she didn’t need to do anything herself.
The maid who did her hair was quite skillful and quickly styled it into a “flying cloud” bun, adding two simple hairpins with beads that swayed gently, making it look delicate and cute.
Her skin was fair, and with just a light touch of powder, it became even smoother, almost like porcelain. A plum blossom was painted on her forehead, making her sparkling eyes shine even brighter.
After her makeup, a maid brought a box of clothes.
Inside was a dress Leng Qing Yu had specially prepared for her.
The dress was a cherry red phoenix-tail gown that cinched at her waist, with a matching embroidered jacket draped over it. She looked like a newly bloomed, vibrant flower, radiant and bold.
It combined the freshness and brightness of a young girl with the allure of a young woman.
Even the maid who styled her hair couldn’t help but exclaim, “Miss truly is a heavenly beauty. With just a casual touch, she looks so dazzling.”
Ye Xin Ran, looking at her reflection in the mirror, was also taken aback. “It’s all thanks to Sister’s skill.”
Leng Qing Yu, wearing a dark green outfit, turned and saw Ye Xin Ran fully dressed, her face showing a pleased surprise.
“Truly, you are my daughter. Even a casual look is enough to outshine everyone else.”
“Mother! Why do you say that too!” Ye Xin Ran blushed even more.
The appointed time had come, and the carriage outside was ready.
Leng Qing Yu took Ye Xin Ran into the carriage, and the group headed for Ling An Temple.
Leng Qing Yu was a believer in Buddhism, so in the Lu family, whether it was a big matter or a small one, they liked to first ask for the Buddha’s guidance.
For something like altering the family tree, the Lu family hoped that through Master Hui Ming’s hand, the addition of a new member would bring good luck to the family.
When Master Hui Ming saw Ye Xin Ran, he was startled by the bright and striking young woman before him.
She looked just like a younger version of Madam Lu, and in comparison, Lu Zhi Yi, who was wearing a pale yellow dress, was overshadowed by her.
However, Lu Ting En did not seem to be fond of this newly recognized daughter.
Master Hui Ming noticed that no joy showed on his face, rather, it seemed as though he had been forced into accepting this daughter.
This struck him as odd.
As a monk, Master Hui Ming did not concern himself with worldly matters and was always paid for his services.
He took the family tree presented to him, recited a passage from the “Diamond Sutra”, and then wrote Ye Xin Ran’s name on the family tree.
The name had already been decided.
They only changed the surname, but kept the original first name.
Lu Ting En didn’t want to bother with picking a new name for his daughter, and Ye Xin Ran was also glad not to have him choose one for her.
Both parties agreed, and the matter was settled.
The process went smoothly, and before noon, everything was done.
Madam Lu did not want to spend more time with them and claimed she was tired, so she asked to rest in a nearby room at the temple.
Lu Zhi Yi immediately went to accompany her.
Lu Ting En had something to discuss with Master Hui Ming, so Ye Xin Ran and Leng Qing Yu went ahead to the main hall of the temple.
Inside the main hall, many women were burning incense and praying.
Leng Qing Yu walked in, took a stick of incense from a novice monk, respectfully lit it, and kneeled in prayer.
Ye Xin Ran followed suit, kneeling beside her mother.
Though Ye Xin Ran didn’t believe in gods and Buddhas, looking at the towering statues, she felt a rare desire to believe. For the first time, she wished that the Buddha could hear the prayers of the faithful.
She hoped that it would bless Xiao Huai’an for a victorious start and for his safety and health.
After they had finished burning incense, Leng Qing Yu went to the front to draw a fortune stick. Ye Xin Ran stayed by her side, looking around.
As she gazed around, she suddenly felt someone’s gaze fixed on them.
At first, Ye Xin Ran thought it was just a passing sensation and didn’t pay much attention.
But soon, the gaze came again.
Ye Xin Ran pretended to casually look back and saw a woman in a lake blue gauze dress. The moment their eyes met, the woman quickly turned her head to avoid her gaze.
Ye Xin Ran immediately became wary.
She gestured for Ding Qiao to keep an eye on the woman and, after Leng Qing Yu finished drawing her fortune stick, quietly told her about the situation.
“Mother, there’s a woman over there who’s been staring at us. Do you know her?”
Leng Qing Yu pretended to turn around to look for the person, carefully scrutinized the woman, and realized she had never seen her before.
“Perhaps she was just admiring how beautiful you look today and glanced over a few more times,” Leng Qing Yu reassured her.
However, one of the maids, Ban Xia, noticed something unusual.
“Madam, that person seems suspicious.”
“What’s suspicious about her?” Leng Qing Yu asked, puzzled.
Ban Xia, unable to hide her concerns, pointed at the woman’s hairpin and said, “Madam, look at that jade hairpin. Isn’t that the one Young Master Zhong gave you back then?”
