Chapter 77: Treating the Leg
“Wait!”
Xiao Huai’an grabbed Ye Xin Ran’s hand.
“Your hand is also injured. Take care of your wound first.”
It was then that Ye Xin Ran felt the pain in her wrist.
The head jackal had tried to bite her hand off earlier, but thankfully, she had reacted quickly and only sustained a minor injury.
Xiao Huai’an took the medicine Ye Xin Ran had used earlier, carefully cleaned her wound, and applied the powder.
“If it hurts, you can scream. No one will hear you here.”
Xiao Huai’an spoke with concern.
It didn’t matter if he was hurt, but when Ye Xin Ran was injured, it hurt him ten times more than his own leg injury.
Ye Xin Ran gratefully accepted Xiao Huai’an’s help in treating her wound, and then gave him an anti-inflammatory and coagulation injection.
“Your leg injury needs to be treated quickly. How far is the cabin from here?”
“About less than a mile up,” Xiao Huai’an replied.
It was close, but with both of them injured, it would be hard to move.
At that moment, two figures suddenly appeared at the foot of the mountain.
They were moving quickly, running toward them.
As soon as they saw Ye Xin Ran and Xiao Huai’an, the two finally stopped, letting out a relieved breath.
“Scared… scared me to death. We… we smelled the blood from below and thought something had happened to you two,” Xiao Chai panted, speaking in broken sentences.
His eyes, however, were filled with surprise and joy.
“They’re injured, but it’s nothing serious,” Ye Xin Ran answered.
“Wow, look at all these scattered corpses. Those jackals sure ran into bad luck. They’re really disgusting. Every time I see them, even one is enough to make me… holy crap!”
Lao Sun’s voice abruptly stopped, and he raised his right hand, pointing at the tiger in front of them. “A… a tiger!”
“Ah! We’re gonna die!” Xiao Chai also saw the tiger at almost the same moment.
“Brother Xiao, quick, let me carry you!”
Although his legs were trembling, Xiao Chai crouched down, trying to lift Xiao Huai’an.
“Don’t be afraid, this tiger won’t bite people.”
Ye Xin Ran said calmly.
“It… doesn’t bite people?” Xiao Chai’s teeth chattered. He glanced at the tiger and then turned to Ye Xin Ran, asking in disbelief, “Do you know this tiger?”
“Sort of!”
Ye Xin Ran nodded.
Lao Sun also withdrew his right leg that he had just stepped forward with.
It was the first time in his life that he had seen a tiger that didn’t eat people. But this tiger, it didn’t move at all, and didn’t even look at them.
Seeing that help had arrived, Ye Xin Ran turned to the two men and said, “Brother Sun, Xiao Chai, my husband’s leg is injured and he can’t walk. Can you two help me carry him up?”
The wilderness was not a safe place, and Xiao Huai’an needed to be taken to a safe location for surgery.
Seeing that the tiger really didn’t seem like it was going to attack, Xiao Chai finally calmed down.
“Alright, I’ll carry Brother Xiao, but Sister-in-law, you have to keep an eye on the tiger, don’t let it bite my butt!”
“Don’t worry, it won’t.”
In the end, Ye Xin Ran didn’t have Xiao Chai carry Xiao Huai’an. Instead, they made a simple stretcher using vines and wooden sticks and carried Xiao Huai’an up.
The cabin was indeed not far. After less than half an hour, they arrived at the location.
Ye Xin Ran didn’t bother with politeness. She quickly apologized to Xiao Chai and Lao Li before turning and locking them out.
“Xiao Chai, Brother Li, you can go find some game. I need to treat my husband’s leg now. Be sure to come back before dark for dinner.”
As soon as Xiao Chai heard that there would be food, he immediately stopped caring about anything else.
He didn’t expect that he would get to eat Sister-in-law Xiao’s cooking again so soon. He felt happy about it.
The tiger sat by the door, licking its paws, completely indifferent to them.
After confirming that the tiger wouldn’t attack, they both slowly retreated and headed into the mountains.
Inside the cabin.
Ye Xin Ran immediately went to the space to check on the operating room.
She wasn’t sure if it was her thoughts that the space had picked up, but the thick fog on the third floor had completely cleared. Not only the lab, but even the storage room was now visible.
Today, her space could finally be used fully.
Ye Xin Ran checked the surgical equipment and confirmed that everything in the operating room was functional. She then took out the anesthetic and said to Xiao Huai’an, “Now I’m going to treat your leg, but I can’t guarantee that it will be successful. After I inject this, you’ll fall unconscious. Are you afraid?”
“No!” Xiao Huai’an replied firmly.
“Good, then I’ll administer the injection now!”
Ye Xin Ran motioned for him to extend his arm.
Xiao Huai’an’s face showed a rare vulnerability: “You’ll stay with me, won’t you?”
Ye Xin Ran nodded and injected the anesthetic.
The space couldn’t take people inside, so Ye Xin Ran had already prepared herself to perform the surgery outside.
But after Xiao Huai’an fell unconscious, she suddenly realized that she could freely bring him in and out.
Without delay, Ye Xin Ran immediately used her mind to move Xiao Huai’an onto the bed.
She turned on the operating room lights, connected the oxygen tube, and a complex surgery officially began!
When Xiao Huai’an woke up again, he was already back on the bed in the wooden cabin.
His legs had been immobilized and wrapped with a layer of bandages.
Looking around, the room was completely empty.
It was eerily quiet.
“Ran Ran!” Xiao Huai’an blurted out.
The next moment, Ye Xin Ran walked in from outside, carrying firewood.
“You’re awake?”
Ye Xin Ran hadn’t expected him to wake up so soon.
Xiao Huai’an’s condition was much better than she had originally imagined.
She had thought that the tendons in the back of his heels had died, but during the surgery, she found that they were still usable.
After careful repair, the blood vessels and tendons had been restructured, and with a period of rest, he would recover.
“You went out just now?”
When Xiao Huai’an saw Ye Xin Ran come back, he visibly relaxed.
“It’s almost dark. I need to prepare dinner.”
Ye Xin Ran replied.
“It’s already been so long?”
Xiao Huai’an felt like he had only slept for a short while, but didn’t realize so much time had passed.
Seeing that Ye Xin Ran’s arm was also wrapped in bandages, he asked, “Is your hand alright now?”
“It’s fine. I’ve already treated it.”
Ye Xin Ran said.
She started a fire, put half a basin of rice into a pot, then added oil, a little salt, and a dash of soy sauce. She topped it with a layer of peas, a layer of sausage, and a layer of diced tomatoes.
Once everything was prepared, she covered the pot with a lid.
These were things Xiao Huai’an had never seen before.
And while they were fighting the jackals earlier, the backpack they had brought was nowhere to be found.
Xiao Huai’an had already accepted the fact that Ye Xin Ran could materialize food out of nowhere, but he was still quite interested in the colorful ingredients.
Lao Li and Xiao Chai had also returned from the mountains.
They hadn’t found any other game, but later, they went down the mountain and brought back the dismembered jackals.
Although they couldn’t be sold anymore, it was still meat!
Once dried, it could be stored and eaten for a long time.
