Chapter 96: Forgetting Duty for Beauty
Ye Xin Ran opened the door and entered the courtyard.
She noticed that Chang An was sitting at the door, waiting for her.
As soon as he saw Ye Xin Ran, the little boy immediately ran up to her.
“Aunt, we have a guest.”
“What kind of guest?” Ye Xin Ran asked.
“I don’t know him, but when Uncle Two saw him, he kicked us out of the room and told us to play outside.”
“Sounds like an important guest,” Ye Xin Ran said as she walked toward Xiao Huai’an’s room.
No matter who it was, since they had come to her house, Ye Xin Ran felt there was no need to avoid them. As the hostess, she should greet them.
She knocked on Xiao Huai’an’s door.
The moment she entered, both Ye Xin Ran and the person inside froze.
It was him (or her)?
Sitting inside was Li Mo, the owner of Yong Le Hall.
Li Mo stared at Ye Xin Ran, unable to believe his eyes. He pointed at her and stuttered, “Huai’an, this… this is your wife? This… what a coincidence.”
Ye Xin Ran, in contrast, was much more composed. She knew Xiao Huai’an often visited Yong Le Hall to get medicine, but she hadn’t realized that it was because he knew the owner.
“Boss Li, what a coincidence!” Ye Xin Ran greeted him.
Li Mo, regaining his composure, stood up and replied, “Sister-in-law, no need for formalities. Just call me Li Mo from now on.”
After speaking, Li Mo glanced at Xiao Huai’an, clearly annoyed.
“You must have known this. Why didn’t you say anything earlier? You made me look like a fool, going on and on about the divine doctor I met.”
Xiao Huai’an raised an eyebrow with a hint of sarcasm.
“Say anything earlier? Since you walked in, did you even give me a chance to speak?”
Li Mo suddenly remembered. After entering, he had been enthusiastically talking about the divine doctor he had found, and even spent a quarter of an hour describing how skilled she was at stitching, claiming she was unlike any doctor he had ever met.
“Since you’re family, I don’t need to say much more.”
Li Mo glanced at Xiao Huai’an’s injured leg, then at Ye Xinran, and belatedly asked, “Your leg… it’s already been treated, hasn’t it?”
Xiao Huai’an looked coldly at him. “What do you think?”
Li Mo ignored him and directly turned to Ye Xin Ran. “So, does his leg have a chance of recovery? Can it be cured?”
Li Mo was visibly excited.
If it weren’t for the fact that Ye Xin Ran was a woman, he might have even wanted to pick her up and have her quickly answer his question.
Ye Xin Ran looked at Xiao Huai’an’s legs, which were tightly wrapped, and said, “It should be fine!”
“That’s great!”
Li Mo clapped his hands together.
“I knew it! You’re the most skilled and mysterious doctor I’ve ever met. Maybe you really do have a way to cure it!”
“Well, you do have a good eye,” Ye Xin Ran responded.
Xiao Huai’an, hearing the compliment, actually found it quite pleasant.
“Once your leg recovers, you should be able to…”
Li Mo seemed to realize something, and his words trailed off. As he met Xiao Huai’an’s cold gaze, he immediately stopped talking.
“I don’t know if your leg can fully recover, but sister-in-law, if you need any herbs during the process, just let me know. As long as I have them, I’ll get them to you!”
“Thank you, Boss Li. For now, Huai’an doesn’t need any herbs. However, if your shop comes across any Ice Spirit Flowers, I could use them.”
“Ice Spirit Flower?”
Despite practicing medicine for many years, Li Mo had never heard of it.
Ye Xin Ran took a complete flower branch from her space and showed it to Li Mo.
Li Mo quickly memorized the appearance of the branch.
“I’ll have someone collect it as soon as I get back. Our pharmacy has branches in both the north and south, so once it’s collected, we’ll send it to you immediately.”
“It must be a fresh flower branch. If it’s far and there’s a large quantity, you can make a note of it. I’ll personally go pick it up when I have time.”
Ye Xin Ran said.
With Li Mo’s connection, Ye Xin Ran felt that her business could expand even further.
After their conversation concluded, Xiao Huai’an brought up another matter.
“I heard from my wife that you and she discussed a business deal involving a hundred taels worth of medicine, and you’re taking six taels as a commission?”
He looked at Li Mo.
Li Mo looked at Xiao Huai’an with confusion. “Yes, that’s right. What’s your point?
From the way you’re speaking, you think it’s too much?”
“Only six taels, big brother! If it weren’t for your wife’s exceptional medical skills, I wouldn’t have taken the deal in the first place.”
“If you didn’t take it, that would have been your loss,” Xiao Huai’an said flatly.
Xiao Huai’an said, “You didn’t provide the formula for this ointment, nor did you need to make it, yet you got six taels of silver without much effort. Isn’t that enough?”
“What do you mean by ‘without effort’? I used my store’s reputation to vouch for it. Is the reputation of Yong Le Hall worthless?” Li Mo retorted.
“It’s still far behind Shun Medical Hall,” Xiao Huai’an raised an eyebrow.
“Xiao Huai’an!” Li Mo became agitated. “If you dare to cooperate with Shun Medical Hall, we’ll sever our ties, do you hear me?”
“We don’t have to cooperate. You just need to lower the commission a bit more,” Xiao Huai’an replied coolly.
“You are really…!” Li Mo had guessed Xiao Huai’an’s intention, and hearing it spoken out loud still made him furious.
“Once this ointment hits the market, it will quickly elevate Yong Le Hall’s reputation. Such an opportunity is rare!” Xiao Huai’an continued.
“You never cared about these things before!” Li Mo felt that Xiao Huai’an was now turning his back on their friendship, putting his wife first.
“It’s not too late to care now,” Xiao Huai’an said indifferently.
He wasn’t trying to force Li Mo to lower the price, but after seeing the scars on Ye Xin Ran’s face heal at such an astonishing rate, he knew that the ointment was a miracle. Once discovered, people who care about their appearance would treasure it.
Though reluctant, Li Mo, accustomed to following Xiao Huai’an’s lead, reluctantly reduced his commission from six taels to three.
“Sister-in-law, this ointment can’t be sold to anyone else except me,” Li Mo said, now more of a businessman than a friend.
“Don’t worry, I had no plans to sell it to anyone else.”
“But there’s something good I need to mention to you in advance.”
He then remembered something exciting.
“Recently, several people have come to ask about this Xue Yan Ointment.”
“And what did you tell them?” Ye Xin Ran asked.
After she had briefly promoted the ointment in the streets, she had planned to inform the store later, but the events that followed delayed the communication.
“I told them it’s all sold out! It’s a rare thing, and the next batch won’t arrive for a long time. When it does, we’ll post a notice in the store.”
“Good!” Ye Xin Ran was very pleased with his handling of the situation.
