Chapter 2
Xu Di, though she had lived for over forty years, still possessed a certain level of composure. Knowing she had experienced something extraordinary, she wanted to scream and shout to vent her emotions, but she suppressed them.
For a few years after her son went to university, she had been exposed to online literature, learning about concepts like time travel, reincarnation, fantasy, and cultivation, popular elements in those stories.
Combining this knowledge with her memories before her death, she realized her heart had truly stopped beating, and now, she could feel it again. It was highly likely she had encountered the so-called time travel.
The scene she briefly saw when she opened her eyes earlier resembled the environment of the 1960s and 1970s, definitely not the intensive care unit where she had been staying.
She reviewed her memories. The young girl was also named Xu Di, the same pronunciation but different characters, the “Di” in “Di” as in flute.
She was seventeen years old and about to start her second year of high school. The reason for her death was an act of bravery, saving a young boy who had fallen into a lake.
As for another fragment, it was a mythical story.
“Xu Di, where is Xu Di? Nurse, nurse, how is my daughter?”
The sudden shouts from outside brought Xu Di back to her senses, and she opened her eyes.
“Xu Di, how are you? Still feeling unwell?”
A middle-aged woman in her forties, brought in by a nurse, spoke with an anxious tone. She rushed to the bedside, touching the girl’s body with her hand, cautiously.
Xu Di could feel her hand trembling, she was very agitated.
“Mom, I’m fine, just a Xiao Dizzy.”
“It’s okay, it’s okay, you scared me to death. I brought you some clothes, come on, let’s go to the bathroom to change.”
Xu Di didn’t know why, but the word “Mom” came out naturally.
The woman in front of her was about the same age as her former self.
As Xu Di was helped up, she also saw a middle-aged man beside her. This was the girl’s father, a man of few words.
Xu Di didn’t bother with the details. Perhaps the original body left behind a wisp of her soul, helping her familiarize herself with the surrounding people and things.
The damp clothes on her body made her uncomfortable, and she wanted to change quickly.
In the bathroom, with her mother’s help, she changed into a clean set of clothes from head to toe.
The most important thing was dry clothes. The doctors and nurses were focused on saving her and didn’t even think to change her hospital gown.
Back in the ward, Xu Di was helped to sit on a stool.
“I’ll go find a nurse to change the bedding, it’s all wet, we can’t sleep on it.”
Her mother left with the bedding in her arms. Xu Di’s father looked at his pale daughter, worried in his heart, but didn’t know what words of comfort to say.
“Are you thirsty? Dad will go get you some water?”
“No, I drank a lot of water when I was saving the boy.”
Xu Di felt full just thinking about it. She never wanted to experience that feeling again.
“How could you be so reckless? Thank goodness you saved him, otherwise, what would your mother and I do?”
“I didn’t think about it at the time.”
Xu Di had memories of saving the boy, but she didn’t feel like talking now.
“Xu Dapeng, take this, I’ll lay down the bedding.”
Her mother entered with a dry bedding, quickly making the bed.
“Xu Di, lie down quickly, the nurse said you choked on water, you need to rest well.”
Her mother helped Xu Di down and covered her with the blanket.
It was summer, but if it wasn’t for the fact that the girl had just been rescued from the water, she wouldn’t need to cover herself.
“Xu Di, sleep for a while, Mom will stay here with you.”
“Okay.”
Xu Di was tired, her mind felt like two little people fighting, and her body was out of control.
In her haze, she heard the woman muttering, “Thank goodness, my Xu Di survived a great calamity, she is sure to have good fortune in the future.”
Xu Di already knew that it was 1970 in China. As for whether it was the same China she had lived in, that remained to be confirmed.
According to the laws of time travel, it was usually either an alternate history or another dimension.
Xu Di could feel her parents’ love for their daughter, and she felt relieved. It wasn’t some kind of bizarre family who favored sons over daughters.
She fell asleep, and in her dreams, she learned about Xu Di’s seventeen years of life, and also about her own ancient memories that she had never awakened.
Pieces of memories in her mind came together, and Xu Di understood the existence of the Lotus Jade Maiden in the Nine Heavens, a being she didn’t know if she truly existed.
The Lotus Jade Maiden was a low-ranking fairy under the Lotus Fairy. She was punished to descend to the mortal realm to experience the cycle of life and death for breaking the Lotus Fairy’s glass lamp.
A day in heaven is a year on earth!
After more than ten days, the Lotus Fairy finally calmed down and remembered her Jade Maiden. She was not used to being without her.
The whimsical fairy wanted to recall her Jade Maiden, but the Jade Maiden had already grown to be over ten years old in the human world, and she couldn’t die for no reason.
The Lotus Fairy spent several days looking for an opportunity, and unexpectedly, she found it.
Xu Di, in order to save the child who had fallen into the lake, had swallowed a lot of water and lost consciousness for a moment.
The Lotus Fairy seized the opportunity to recall her Jade Maiden, but the Jade Maiden, who had lived in the human world for seventeen years, had deep affection for the Xu family. She didn’t want her parents to experience the heartbreak of losing their child, so she intervened just as Xu Di was about to die.
In a way, there might be some karmic connection between them.
The Lotus Jade Maiden returned to the Nine Heavens, and the soul of Xu Di from 2024 entered the body of Xu Di in 1970.
A wisp of the Lotus Jade Maiden’s consciousness remained in Xu Di’s body, but it could only stay in the human world for a maximum of three days before completely breaking the connection.
After understanding the cause and effect, Xu Di sighed in relief. At least she hadn’t possessed someone else’s body, otherwise, she would have been tormented forever.
Her former self was already dead, her parents had her brother and sister-in-law, and her son had graduated from university. She had no attachments.
As for Li Kai, they had been a couple for a lifetime, and now they were both free.
Her forty-year-old soul inhabiting the body of a teenager might lead to some differences in her mentality.
But it was okay, this was the 1970s, she, a person born in the 1980s, was actually younger.
Xu Di silently thanked the rapidly developing China, allowing her to live in an era of information explosion.
She was familiar with the popular elements of the internet age, like time travel, reincarnation, possession, and cultivation, and she could quickly accept this encounter without being too terrified.
She wasn’t too worried about how to live her life in the future. She would make the best of it.
China in the 1970s had many drawbacks, but also many good things.
Humanity, this era was full of humanity. As long as she was cautious, didn’t try to change the world, and didn’t do anything reckless, she should be able to adapt.
Xu Di drifted off to sleep, some fragments of memories in her mind disappearing.
Her mother touched Xu Di’s forehead. Thankfully, she didn’t have a fever.
The nurse had said that as long as there was no fever, there wouldn’t be any major problems. Choking on water was worrisome because it could develop into pneumonia, which would be troublesome.
Xu Di’s father had returned to the factory. He had only taken a two-hour leave.
“I wonder how the boy who was rescued is doing. I hope nothing happens to him, otherwise, Xu Di’s sacrifice would be in vain.”
Xu Di’s mother thought about the child who was saved. It wasn’t about expecting any reward, but she was worried about whether the child was alright.
As the saying goes, most people in the 1960s and 1970s were kind and helpful.
The saying that old people have become bad is not true, it’s that bad people have gotten old.
Every era has people who are disgraceful, but luckily, they are a minority!
