Chapter 24

Another sunny morning, Xu Di went to school with her backpack.

There were only a few students in the classroom, she didn’t know where everyone else had gone.

Her deskmate, Yang Dani, had also gone to work, she was an apprentice in the accounting department of her parents’ clothing factory.  With her parents there, it wouldn’t be a problem for her to become a regular employee.

“Xu Di, let’s sign up to go to the countryside together after graduation?”

“Let’s talk about it later, we still have over a month before graduation.”

Xu Di had been here for almost a year, and besides Yang Dani, she hadn’t interacted much with her classmates.

She wasn’t really seventeen or eighteen, even though her appearance and age were young and full of vitality, her heart was still a bit weathered.

Xu Di sat silently at her desk, thinking about where to go in the afternoon to look for job information again.

Yang Dani’s parents had said that if their clothing factory recruited from outside, they would notify her immediately.

Xu’s father’s workshop could get a temporary work quota, but it was a machinist position, she really couldn’t do it.

Xu’s mother’s canteen was already overcrowded, filled with people with connections.

“Xu Di, someone is looking for you.”

The classmate at the door called out, interrupting Xu Di’s thoughts.

Xu Di walked out of the classroom in confusion, she couldn’t think of who would be looking for her.

“Sister Fang, why are you here?”

Xu Di really didn’t expect Sister Fang to be the one looking for her, she thought it might be Yang Dani.

“Can you come out for a bit, I have something to tell you.”

Xu Di ran back to the classroom, packed her things into her bag, and quickly went out.

“Let’s go, let’s talk outside.”

Yan Fangfang pulled Xu Di towards the school gate, it was too noisy here, not a good place to talk.

“Sister Fang, did you find any job information?”

“How can this be, that’s a job at the department store, how can I take it, it’s for Kangkang’s grandpa, it was left for him.”

Although Xu Di was anxious to find a job, it was a reward for the martyr from the department store.

“Kangkang is still so young, how things will be when he grows up is uncertain.  Besides, if you hadn’t saved Kangkang, it’s debatable if he would even be alive.”

Yan Fangfang remembered the image of Kangkang unconscious, her heart ached.

And to be honest, after her father-in-law passed away, many things had changed.  When Kangkang grew up, that position might not even exist.

Xu Di couldn’t make up her mind for a moment, she was focused on buying a job.  But she knew that if she offered to pay for it, Aunt Wang and Sister Fang wouldn’t agree.

“Alright, it’s settled, go back and tell your parents.  After you get your diploma, come over to our house, and let your brother Liang take you to handle the paperwork.

Oh, I forgot to mention, my father-in-law was the logistics director, his position is already filled.  The job your brother Liang arranged for you is also in logistics, a warehouse keeper.”

Liang Bo had wanted the position in the accounting department, but there were too many people eyeing that position, it was still an apprenticeship.

Just in case, he got the position of warehouse keeper, once he took over, he would be a regular employee.  There were also many people eyeing this position, he had negotiated for a long time.

Because this warehouse department wasn’t for a small department store, it was for the logistics department of the department store headquarters.

The office was at the department store headquarters, it had its own manager’s office.

Yan Fangfang had to go back to work, she asked Xu Di to get her diploma as soon as possible, and to go to take over the job quickly, just in case something happened.

Xu Di saw Sister Fang off, she didn’t go back to school, she went straight home.

“Xu Di, did you get any news today?”

Xu’s mother asked about the job as soon as she entered the door.  She was worried, she had blisters on her mouth.

Her eldest daughter didn’t know when she would be able to transfer back from Yunnan, and she didn’t want her youngest daughter to leave home again.

“Mom, I didn’t go out this afternoon.  I’ll tell you something after dinner.”

“What are you going to say, do you also want to go to the countryside?”

Xu’s mother was startled, this child wouldn’t have secretly signed up, would she?

“Xu Di?”

Xu’s eldest sister-in-law didn’t want Xu Di to go to the countryside either, it was too hard.

The whole family looked at Xu Di, their faces full of worry.

“No, I’m not going to the countryside.  Mom and Dad, eat first, this isn’t something to talk about loudly.”

Xu Di wanted to wait until later to tell them, the apartment buildings weren’t very soundproof these days, just in case someone overheard.

“I know, eat.”

Xu’s mother had a bit of an idea, it seemed like she had found a job.

Although the others were curious, they knew the importance of the matter, it was noisy with so many people, it was better not to know.  If they accidentally let it slip, it would be bad.

The meal was eaten very quickly, Xu Di still had a mouthful of rice left when Xu’s mother took her bowl away.

“Xu Li, you and Xu Jun clean up the dishes, Xu Dapeng, you come in too.”

Xu’s mother gave the order, and no one objected.

“Tell me, what’s going on, is someone selling a job, how much, which factory?”

Xu’s mother lowered her voice, this matter couldn’t be publicized.

“Mom, no, it’s Sister Fang, Kangkang’s mother, she came to find me today…”

Xu Di recounted everything Yan Fangfang had said, her voice was so low that only the three of them could hear.

Xu’s mother was so excited, her voice was a bit loud, she quickly lowered her voice.

“Is this true?  Kangkang’s mom asked you to go handle the paperwork as soon as possible?”

Xu’s father was also flustered, it was a job at the department store.

Xu’s mother and Xu’s father were also silent, they knew the weight of this job.

“Xu Di, we’ll accept it.  Since Kangkang’s dad has already handled it, it means they really want to give it to you.

You accept this kindness, and find a way to return it later.  I think Aunt Wang and her family are good people, they’ve always said they want to be close relatives.

So you treat them as relatives from now on, and be good to them.  Don’t back down when there’s something you need.”

Xu’s mother thought that it would be better to buy a job with money, it would be easier.

But it wasn’t easy to buy a job now, without connections, no one would take the risk of selling a job.

The Liang family seemed like good people, they would get along well in the future, it wouldn’t hurt to have another relative.

“Mom, then you go to school tomorrow to help me get my diploma.  Sister Fang said to go to take over the job after I get my diploma, just in case.”

“Okay, I’m off tomorrow, I’ll go to school with you.  After we’re done, we’ll go find Kangkang’s mom.”

The matter was decided, Xu’s mother didn’t want to publicize it, they would talk about it after she officially joined the job.

That night, many people couldn’t sleep.

Xu’s father and Xu’s mother definitely couldn’t sleep, as for Xu Di, she had to go to her space to work for a while, once she was tired, she could easily fall asleep.
