Chapter 33
Xu Di was sweating after running, she felt a little cold when the wind blew on her.
She wasn’t familiar with this place, she wandered around for a long time before she found the bus stop. She checked the sign, she needed to take another bus to get home.
“Xu Di, what were you doing on a weekend, you’re just coming back?”
“Auntie Ma, I went to play with my classmates. It’s too late, I won’t talk to you anymore, my mom is waiting for me to eat.”
Xu Di wouldn’t talk nonsense with her, a woman obsessed with her younger brother, even her name was unique, Zhaodi.
“Oh, oh… Xu Di, don’t go, Auntie Ma still has something to tell you…”
Xu Di didn’t care about her, she quickened her pace and ran home.
“Really, I wanted to introduce you to someone.”
Auntie Ma muttered to herself, unwillingly going home.
“Second sister, did a dog chase you?”
Xu Jun saw his second sister running up the stairs from the window, he quickly went to open the door.
“No dog, I ran into Auntie Ma, I don’t know what she wanted to say, I didn’t give her a chance, I just ran away.”
Xu Di took a breath, she had run too much today, her legs were sore.
“Auntie Ma, Yang Zhaodi?”
Xu’s mother came out of the kitchen and asked.
“Yeah, it’s her, don’t all the aunts and grandmothers in the family compound say that she’s always sending things back to her parents’ home?”
“Xu Di, stay away from her in the future. This woman is crazy, she’s hopeless.
She came to our house today, saying she wanted to introduce you to someone, her younger brother.
He’s twenty-four or twenty-five years old and hasn’t married yet, he took over his mother’s job, he’s been slacking off, he’s been living off his sisters’ blood.”
Xu’s mother was angry when she mentioned this, what kind of person was she, she didn’t know what her brother was like, and she dared to come to their door.
“Xu Di, listen to your mom, that family is no good. My family and their family live in the same compound, they had four or five daughters before they had this son, they spoiled him rotten.
He doesn’t work properly, he’s been slacking off. He goes out to fool around whenever he has nothing to do, the girls from good families all avoid him.”
Sister-in-law knew about the Yang family, they lived off their daughters’ dowries to spoil their son, they were notorious in the neighborhood.
“I know, I’ll be careful. I’m not in a hurry to find a partner anyway, besides, even if I do, I wouldn’t find someone from that kind of family.”
Favoritism towards sons was a kind of sickness.
This matter was over, the Xu family didn’t think about Xu Di finding a partner so soon.
But someone had their eyes on Xu Di.
Yang Zhaodi went back home, the more she thought about it, the more she felt that Xu Di was a good match for her brother. She was good-looking, capable, and had a formal job, what more could she ask for.
Grandma Qian was also thinking about Xu Di, she was worried and couldn’t sit still. After dinner, she went to the Liang family.
“Auntie Qian, have you eaten?”
“I have, Lanzi, I have something to tell you.”
Wang Lan looked at Auntie Qian, who looked troubled, what was going on, she rarely saw Auntie Qian so conflicted.
“Auntie Qian, what’s wrong?”
“How do I say this, I don’t know how to put it, if I don’t say it, I’ll keep thinking about it.”
Grandma Qian was also conflicted, but she genuinely liked Xu Di and didn’t want to miss out.
“Auntie Qian, just say it, there’s nothing we can’t talk about.”
Wang Lan felt it must be about Chaoyang, otherwise, Auntie Qian wouldn’t be so conflicted.
“Oh, I’ll say it. It’s just, do you think my Chaoyang is a good match for Xu Di?”
“Ah? Chaoyang and Xu Di?”
This was something Wang Lan hadn’t expected, she knew that the Zhang family had a complicated family situation.
“Yes, before I thought Xu Di was still young, I didn’t think about it that way. I heard last time that she’s already eighteen, she’s five years younger than Chaoyang, the age is quite suitable.
I’m just afraid that Xu Di doesn’t want to find a soldier, he’s away from home all year round, being a military wife is very hard. But I really like Xu Di, I thought, you could help me indirectly understand her, does she dislike soldiers?”
Grandma Qian thought that her Chaoyang was excellent, except that he was a bit quiet and was a soldier on the border.
He was tall, his eyes were a bit small, but they were very sharp. He was decisive, responsible, respectful to girls, and he was a good young man who lived a clean life.
“Auntie Qian, I know Chaoyang is an excellent kid. Regardless of whether Xu Di wants to find a soldier or not, the most important thing is, what do the other people in the Zhang family think about Chaoyang’s marriage?”
Wang Lan was close to Auntie Qian, she knew their family situation, it was a bit complicated.
“Don’t worry about that, I raised Chaoyang, I’ll decide on his marriage. My grandson, I can’t let them dictate his life, marrying a wife he doesn’t like, his life won’t be happy.”
Grandma Qian looked serious, her words were firm.
Wang Lan also knew that Auntie Qian was a woman who had gone through fire and water. She was usually smiling and easy to talk to, but once she got serious, she was a force to be reckoned with.
“Then that’s fine, I’ll ask her next time Xu Di comes over.”
“Okay, just ask indirectly, don’t mention my grandson. I like the girl very much, if she dislikes soldiers and knows that it’s my grandson, she might be embarrassed to see him in the future.”
“Okay, I won’t say anything, I’ll just get a feel for it. Xu Di is eighteen, she can’t avoid being introduced to people. When I see her, I’ll definitely ask.”
Wang Lan didn’t expect Auntie Qian to be so concerned about Xu Di, in terms of family background, the Zhang family was a step above the Xu family.
“Okay, you ask. I’ve already thought about it, after Chaoyang gets married, his wife can’t join the army, if she doesn’t mind this old lady, let her live with me.”
Grandma Qian currently lived in a government compound apartment building, but the property belonged to her, it was a reward for her.
“Auntie Qian is such a good person, which good girl would refuse to live with you.”
Wang Lan thought that if this was the case, Chaoyang’s conditions were indeed good.
After they finished talking, Grandma Qian felt relieved, as for whether it would work out or not, she would leave it to fate.
After seeing Auntie Qian off, Wang Lan looked at her daughter-in-law, who had something to say.
“You heard that, what do you think?”
“Mom, Chaoyang’s conditions are good, he’s also excellent himself. But his family situation is too complicated. And Chaoyang’s mother is also a lot of trouble, and there are relatives over there, it’s not easy to deal with.”
Yan Fangfang was used to a quiet life, she felt that complicated family relationships were tiring.
“What you said is a problem, but Fangfang, there aren’t many families like ours with simple populations these days. Which family doesn’t have aunts and uncles, brothers and sisters, a whole bunch of people, all squeezed together?
If she marries Chaoyang, at least she’ll have a spacious house to live in, the material conditions will be good.”
Yan Fangfang thought about it, most of her friends and colleagues, after getting married, lived with a big family. Now, housing was tight, it would take forever for the unit to allocate them an apartment.
“It’s too early to talk about this, the most important thing is what Xu Di thinks. Being a military wife isn’t easy. You won’t see each other for months, you have to take care of everything at home, it’s hard work.”
Wang Lan wasn’t a military wife, but she had seen too many examples like this. Their Women’s Federation visited military dependents every year.
“That’s true, we’ll ask her next time she comes. She’s not young anymore, if there’s someone suitable, she can take a look, otherwise, the good ones will all be taken.”
Yan Fangfang started thinking about the young men around her and Liang Bo, who had good conditions and were good people.
She didn’t know why, but their family felt close to Xu Di, they genuinely cared about her future.
Without Xu Di’s knowledge, many people were worried about her future.
