Chapter 30
Old Lady Xu and Xu Weizu did not undermine Shitou’s self-confidence. If they, the children, could catch pheasants and rabbits, every family would have enough meat to eat.
The three children each carried a basket and walked up the mountain.
People of the same age on the street saw Xu Leshu’s skin and then looked at their own skin and felt inferior. They were both human, so why was her skin as white as a peeled egg?
Not only are they dark, but they also have lots of spots and even pimples on their faces, which makes them look so ugly.
Xu Leshu ignored their opinions and comments about herself.
There are no airtight walls in the countryside, so when a new character appears, people will naturally be curious and take a look.
When I reached the foot of the mountain, I met some people who were also going up the mountain, but they were just some children.
They both looked strange when they saw Xu Leshu, but when they saw Xu Lehong, they thought of what their family said today.
The relatives from Xujiacheng came back, and they looked as pretty as dolls, with skin whiter than eggs.
Now she looks really pretty, even prettier than the daughter of the village chief’s uncle who doesn’t work in the fields.
I have seen Xu Leshu and Shitou when I was older, but this year I felt that Xu Leshu was more beautiful than before, like a different person.
“Brother Xiaohong, Sister Xiaoshu, Brother Shitou.”
A dark-skinned boy about nine years old called out to them with a smile showing his big white teeth.
Xu Lehong walked in front and nodded with a smile: “Shizhu, you guys should also go up the mountain to pick mushrooms.”
Xu Leshu smiled and nodded at them. Shi Tou saw him and trotted over to him, putting his arm around his shoulders.
“Why did the stone pillar turn black again?”
Shizhu chuckled and scratched his head. Aren’t all the people like him in the countryside? Only people in the city have skin as white as theirs.
Xu Leshu saw that there were several little girls around three or four years old among them, all looking at her with their big eyes.
Seeing Xu Leshu looking at him, he hurriedly turned his eyes away and dared not look at her.
Xu Leshu took out a handful of fruit candies from her bag and gave them to them: “What are your names?”
But no one dared to take it, and one of the little girls grabbed the hem of the stone pillar.
When Shitou saw this, he grabbed the candy from his second sister’s hand and passed it to others.
“Don’t be embarrassed to eat. We are all from the same village.”
Shizhu looked at the two candies in his hand and put them back into his bag carefully.
“Thank you, Sister Xiaoshu.”
“Thank you, sister.”
Seeing Shizhu accept it and say thank you, the remaining four children also said thank you in a low voice.
Shizhu pulled the little girl who looked a bit like him and said, “Brother Shitou, are you guys going to pick mushrooms too? I know there’s a place with a lot of mushrooms, and no one knows about it yet.”
“We just picked it a few days ago. That’s my secret spot.”
Xu Lehong reached out and rubbed his head: “Then take us there. Don’t be afraid that I will rob your secret base after I find out.”
Shizhu smiled shyly and said, “Don’t be afraid. Brother Xiaohong, you usually work in the fields and never go up the mountain, except to collect firewood.”
Following the stone pillars to his secret base, I saw densely packed yellow, red and gray things at a glance. There were indeed a lot of them.
Xu Leshu had never experienced picking mushrooms in the mountains, nor had she seen mushrooms everywhere.
As soon as they arrived, the children scattered around and bent down to pick up the items.
Xu Leshu picked up a big brown mushroom. The bottom was very fat and Xu Leshu could hardly hold it with one hand.
“Brother, what kind of fungus is this? Can I eat it?”
Xu Lehong glanced back and nodded: “You can eat bigfoot mushrooms, but you have to check if there are any small holes on them and if there are worms inside. If there are worms, you can’t eat them.”
Xu Leshu looked at it carefully and put it into the basket perfectly.
Xu Lehong saw Xu Leshu walking over there alone and warned her: “Xiaoshu, don’t go too far. Now is the season when wild boars come down from the mountains and snakes and insects are rampant.”
“Got it.” Xu Leshu was very interested at the moment. She didn’t even look around. She just knew there were endless mushrooms to pick.
“Wow wow… oooo brother it hurts so much.”
Everyone was picking mushrooms quietly when suddenly a cry was heard.
Xu Leshu turned around and saw the little girl pulling the stone pillar.
Moreover, Xu Leshu’s sharp eyes even saw a black snake crawling into the grass.
Bitten by a snake.
Shizhu had been by his sister’s side and apparently saw the snake as well.
I squatted down and saw two small holes on my calves, and my eyes were filled with panic.
I wanted to carry my sister on my back and carry her out of the woods, but I was too nervous and fell to the ground.
Xu Lehong, come over quickly and check it out. The wound is slowly turning blue.
“This snake is poisonous.”
When Shizhu heard that it was poisonous, he was so scared that tears came out: “Xiaohong, please send my sister to Going down the mountain to find Uncle Li, I… I can’t run fast. ”
Xu Lehong carried Shi Niu on his back and nodded: “Go find your parents. I’ll take your sister to Uncle Li first.”
Xu Leshu saw that the blood that was flowing out began to turn black. This snake was very poisonous.
Xu Leshu ran behind Xu Lehong and asked, “Brother, can Uncle Li, who you mentioned, cure snake venom?”
“No, but Uncle Li has a medicine that can temporarily suppress the toxin. We need to send it to the hospital in the city.”
Xu Leshu saw the crying child with sweat all over his head and looked at Shi Tou.
“Go back and take my bag to the infirmary at the entrance of the village, quickly.”
Although Shitou didn’t know what his second sister was going to do, he nodded anyway and quickened his pace to overtake Xu Lehong and rushed home.
People on the roadside saw Xu Lehong carrying Zhang family’s Shi Niu to the infirmary. When they saw that there was a large bruise and two bloody holes on Shi Niu’s leg, they knew that she had been bitten by a snake.
“Shi Niu.”
Zhang’s parents, who were weeding in the fields by the roadside, saw their daughter’s appearance, and in panic, they dropped the hoes in their hands and ran behind her in panic.
Zhang’s mother even shed tears.
When we arrived at the infirmary, a middle-aged man in his fifties with a wisp of beard was bending over in the yard to sort medicinal herbs.
“Uncle Li, come and check on Shi Niu. She was bitten by a snake in the mountains just now.”
Li Ming turned around and saw that the area around the wound on her leg was black and swollen. The pain caused her to become unconscious and vomit.
“Put it on the bed quickly.” After saying that, he turned around and went into the house, took out a small porcelain bottle and sprinkled it on the wound.
At the same time, he took out another kind of medicine powder, dissolved it in water and poured it into his mouth, and gave him another injection.
“How is Lao Li?”
Father Zhang looked at Li Ming nervously, his face covered in sweat and his hands trembling as he looked at him.
Li Ming didn’t answer him, but frowned at Shi Niu on the bed.
He poured the medicine into his mouth from the cup in his hand, but he spat it out not long after.
And there was no sign of relief for the wound, so he looked at Zhang’s father and mother.
“No, this snake is too poisonous. None of my medicines will work. Send him to the city hospital.”
Hearing that it didn’t work, Zhang’s mother was so frightened that her legs went weak and she collapsed to the ground.
She grabbed Li Ming’s trouser leg and cried loudly: “Doctor Li, you must save Shi Niu. What if you can’t do anything? Please save my daughter.”
