Chapter 3: Enough Rice
The two families lived in the same compound, well-matched in status. They were also classmates, and their elders all knew each other. The original Jiang Peiyu had been a fool who only focused on studying without using her brain. She was easily sweet-talked by this scumbag, who often coaxed her into giving him her pocket money.
Little did she know, he was using her money to flirt with other female classmates—not just one or two.
“Peiyu, I only heard from Aunt Hui a few days ago that you’re going back to the countryside. You must be feeling really down…”
Jiang Peiyu secretly rolled her eyes and completely ignored this idiot, cursing him in her heart: Damn scumbag. Drop dead…
Seeing that Jiang Peiyu didn’t respond, Wang Shengjie wasn’t angry. He just kept talking to himself.
“Just thinking that you’ll be living a hard life in the countryside, so far away from me that we won’t even be able to see each other… My heart really aches…”
“Peiyu, don’t worry. You go back first. When the time is right, I’ll talk to my parents and then come to the countryside to get you…”
“Stop right there.” Jiang Peiyu couldn’t stand listening to his nonsense anymore. He really thought she was as clueless as the original owner?
This moron hooked up with the real daughter the day after she came back, and for money, he clearly wasn’t picky.
He had only ever been after the original owner’s looks and the allowance she gave him every month, and now he was still pretending to be some noble prince.
Son of a bitch, this disgusting scumbag makes me sick.
“You’ve said all that—so, are you here to pay me back?”
“Seeing as I’m about to suffer in the countryside, did your conscience finally wake up, and now you want to return the 675 yuan you scammed off me over the years?”
“Peiyu, what are you talking about? What money did I scam from you…”
The scumbag kept pretending to be clueless.
Seeing him still acting dumb, Jiang Peiyu’s patience snapped.
“Still not admitting it? Fine. Then I’ll go to the machinery factory and talk to your dad.”
“If that doesn’t work, I’ll go find some of those female classmates of ours. I’m sure they’ll be very interested…”
She emphasized the last word sharply and with force, and Wang Shengjie instantly panicked.
“Peiyu, what’s wrong with you? Is it because you’re sad about going back to the countryside? Is that why you’re saying these things…”
“Enough, Wang Shengjie! I don’t have time to listen to your crap. Pay me back, now.”
“Otherwise, I’ll go straight to your dad and those girls who don’t yet know you’re a two-faced scumbag.”
Seeing Jiang Peiyu so firm, Wang Shengjie finally dropped the act, revealing his true colors and becoming furious.
“Jiang Peiyu, you country bumpkin! I’m lowering myself just to speak to you. Don’t you dare get cocky, or else—”
As he spoke, he raised his hand to slap her—only to be caught by Jiang Fugui and Jiang Yanwen, who had just arrived to pick her up.
Bang!
Wang Shengjie took a solid punch right in the stomach from Jiang Yanwen.
Jiang Yanwen, strong from years of farm work, packed a punch like a hammer. Wang Shengjie, a pampered softie who’d never done a day of hard labor, instantly crumpled, clutching his stomach in pain and falling to the ground.
“You… Who the hell are you… hitting people like this! Be careful, or I’ll—”
Still trying to act tough even while lying on the ground, Jiang Yanwen kicked him again in fury.
“You little punk! How dare you raise your hand to my sister? I’ll kick you to death!”
“Ahh… Stop! Stop hitting me!” Wang Shengjie curled up on the ground in pain, begging for mercy.
Seeing that her biological father and second brother had arrived, Jiang Peiyu felt confident and shouted loudly:
“Wang Shengjie! Stop talking nonsense and give me my money, or I’ll beat you to death right here today!”
“I’ll pay! I’ll pay! Just don’t hit me again…”
“Then hurry up! You think you can pay with words? Get up! What kind of man are you, dropping like a fly from just one punch? Pathetic!”
Jiang Peiyu glared at him with disgust and even spat at him as he struggled to get up.
After fumbling around for a while, Wang Shengjie stood up and pulled a handful of cash from his pocket, counting it.
“I only have 55 yuan on me. I’ll get the rest from home.”
Jiang Peiyu snatched it from him and counted—it was indeed 55 yuan.
“I’m going with you. A guy like you clearly can’t be trusted. I don’t want you pulling any tricks…”
“Second Brother, come with me.”
“Alright, little sis. I’ll load your luggage onto the ox cart first.”
With that, Jiang Yanwen grabbed her two big suitcases and carried them to the cart.
Jiang Peiyu also headed toward the ox cart, took a deep breath, and finally called out to Jiang Fugui, “Dad.”
“Yes, my girl! Dad’s here to take you home.”
Hearing her call him Dad willingly, Jiang Fugui was overjoyed. A warm smile spread across his weathered face.
“Dad, I’m going with Second Brother to get the rest of the money. You wait for us here.”
“Alright, go ahead. I’ll watch over the ox cart. Yanwen, keep a close eye on your sister—don’t let anyone bully her.”
“I got it, Dad. Don’t worry. Let’s go, little sis.”
“Mm.” Jiang Peiyu nodded and followed her second brother.
With Jiang Yanwen there, Wang Shengjie didn’t dare pull anything. He snuck into his mom’s room and stole 700 yuan.
“Here’s 700 yuan. Give me change.”
Seeing him hand the money over, Jiang Peiyu swiftly snatched it.
“Change? What change? If I’d put this money in a bank, I’d be collecting interest by now.”
“As for the extra, I won’t argue with you. Consider it interest.”
“Second Brother, let’s go.”
“You… Jiang Peiyu…” Wang Shengjie fumed, stomping his feet in anger after being forced to hand over an extra 80 yuan.
Jiang Peiyu ignored him completely and turned around, heading back to the Xia household with Jiang Yanwen.
“Dad, wait for me a bit longer. Bro, come with me.”
Back at the Xia house, Jiang Peiyu pulled out the key and unlocked the door, leading Jiang Yanwen into the kitchen and opening the cabinet.
“Second Brother, quick—grab this 50 jin (25 kg) of rice, 30 jin (15 kg) of white flour, 20 jin (10 kg) of noodles, and these 50 or so eggs and load them onto the ox cart.”
“Little Sis, this… this doesn’t seem right…” Jiang Yanwen hesitated when he saw so many good things. He was a bit scared when his sister asked him to take everything.
“What do you mean it’s not right? Hurry up and move them, or it’ll be dark before we get home.”
“…Alright then.” With no other choice, Jiang Yanwen swung his arms and carried everything out in one go.
It was now July, the height of summer, and he was wearing short sleeves. Jiang Peiyu couldn’t help but drool a little as she looked at the biceps on her second brother’s arms.
Such a shame. With his tall frame, solid muscles, and perfectly balanced physique, he was undeniably attractive from every angle.
“So close, yet all that masculine charm is coming from my biological brother’s body… sigh…” Jiang Peiyu felt bitter inside—so much male beauty, and she could only look, not touch.
But just because she was feeling emotionally bitter didn’t mean her stomach and body had to suffer too. Before leaving, Jiang Peiyu opened another cabinet beside it and took out a clay jar.
“Ooh, there’s still two jin of brown sugar and one jin of White Rabbit milk candies—take them, take them. Leaving them for Xia Lizhu is a waste. Oh, and here’s some salt too, I’ll take that as well.”
And so, Jiang Peiyu swaggered out of the Xia family house, carrying a clay jar in her left arm and a bag of sugar and salt in her right hand.
Before shutting the door, she glanced back once—not because she felt any attachment, but to toss the key onto the floor. Then bang—she slammed the door shut.
