Chuxia, after checking on Huai’an’s health and confirming he was in good condition, took him to Guo Lin.
Huai’an’s trophy and certificate were held by Chuxia as Huai’an respectfully bowed to Guo Lin, saying, “Teacher, thank you for your guidance.”
Without Guo Lin’s dedicated teaching, Cen Huai’an wouldn’t have reached his current level in Go.
Guo Lin smiled and helped him up, “Your victory is mostly due to your own efforts.”
He had seen many talented children who, despite their potential, failed to perform well in their first competitions due to nervousness.
Cen Huai’an’s victory was indeed a result of Guo Lin’s teaching, but it was also because Huai’an’s mindset was stable and adaptable, making the teaching effective.
“Teacher Guo, I have something to tell you.”
Guo Lin followed Chuxia to a quieter spot and asked, “What is it, An’an’s mother?”
Chuxia glanced at Huai’an and then looked back at Guo Lin, saying, “Teacher Guo, Huai’an and I are moving to Beijing soon, so he won’t be able to continue learning from you. I’m very sorry. I know you’ve put a lot of effort into teaching him, but there are special circumstances at home.”
Guo Lin, who had been delighted about having such a talented student, was stunned by the news.
“This matter…” He sighed and asked hopefully, “Is there no room for negotiation?”
Chuxia shook her head apologetically, “I’m sorry, Teacher Guo. We didn’t mean to disappoint you.”
Guo Lin felt disappointed for a moment and then waved his hand, “It’s alright; it’s unavoidable.”
If it weren’t for the necessity of moving to Beijing, Chuxia wouldn’t have brought this up.
Guo Lin even felt a strong urge to follow them to Beijing, considering Huai’an’s potential to shine in the Go world.
As his teacher, Guo Lin would be envied by every Go player for discovering and teaching such a talent.
Every Go player dreams of discovering a genius, and as they age, they hope to see the future of the Go world flourishing with new talent.
But he had his own rationality; his home and career were in Liangzhou, and he couldn’t relocate to Beijing.
Additionally, he was a Liangzhou player and would represent Liangzhou in future competitions.
Guo Lin showed regret on his face and a sense of reluctance in his eyes as he looked at Cen Huai’an.
But he soon collected himself and said, “I’m satisfied just to have discovered Huai’an’s talent and brought him into the world of Go. I hope Huai’an won’t forget me as his first teacher.”
Chu Xia immediately assured him, “He won’t.”
She then raised her voice and called out Cen Huai’an’s name.
Cen Huai’an, who had already told Zheng Duoping and Xu Lingling about his departure from Liangzhou, quickly ran to her and Guo Lin.
Chu Xia hugged Cen Huai’an and, with a smile in her voice, asked him, “Teacher Guo is afraid you’ll forget him. Tell him you won’t, okay?”
Cen Huai’an looked at Guo Lin with utmost seriousness and said firmly, “Teacher, I won’t forget you.”
He would always remember that it was Guo Lin who asked him if he liked Go and introduced him to this fascinating and ever-changing world.
How could he ever forget Teacher Guo?
Guo Lin felt a deep sense of comfort upon hearing Huai’an’s words.
That was enough for him.
He borrowed some paper and a pen from the staff and wrote down an address, saying, “My teacher and senior brothers are in Beijing. I’ll write a letter to my teacher. If Cen Huai’an wants to continue studying Go in Beijing, you can find him.”
Chu Xia took the address, feeling the weight of his intentions. “Teacher Guo, Huai’an’s great-grandfather also mentioned wanting to teach him.”
Regardless of whether Cen Huai’an’s great-grandfather was joking or serious, Chu Xia couldn’t ignore his statement, especially since he had often sent her papers.
She needed to check with him before finalizing anything.
“It’s fine,” Guo Lin insisted, pushing the address into Chu Xia’s hands. “Good students are always sought after by many teachers. Let Cen Huai’an choose the teacher he likes the most. The right teacher will help him fully realize his talent.”
Chu Xia sincerely thanked Guo Lin and had Cen Huai’an present the farewell gift he had prepared.
She knew that Guo Lin wouldn’t accept gifts from her, but he would accept something prepared by Cen Huai’an himself.
As expected, Guo Lin smiled and accepted the gift, saying he would cherish it when he got home.
It was a token of his student’s affection.
After everything was said and done, Chu Xia and Cen Huai’an bid farewell to Guo Lin and the others.
Today’s farewell left them uncertain of when Cen Huai’an would meet Guo Lin and the others again.
As they walked away, Guo Lin looked at their retreating figures with a hint of sadness in his eyes.
Zheng Duoping and Xu Lingling had also become much quieter.
Compared to the separation, their loss in the Go match against Cen Huai’an seemed to fade into the background.
On their way back, Cen Huai’an was also feeling down.
“Mom, why does it feel so uncomfortable to say goodbye?”
He couldn’t quite describe the feeling—just a dull ache, as if something was blocking his chest, making him feel uneasy.
“Because we are human and have feelings. No matter how long we’ve been with someone, saying goodbye is never easy. As you grow older, you’ll face more farewells. That’s part of growing up.”
Huai’an thought for a moment and said in a muffled voice, “Then, Mom, I don’t want to grow up.”
Chu Xia couldn’t help but laugh and ruffled Cen Huai’an’s slightly longer hair, “Don’t think about it. It’s not possible!”
“Why isn’t it possible?” Cen Huai’an was genuinely curious.
He had once looked forward to growing up, but now he didn’t want to.
“Because time always moves forward. We can’t make time go backward.”
Chu Xia briefly explained the concept of time and space, as well as some physical theories about superluminal speed.
Huai’an thought deeply about it and, after a while, asked, “Mom, if I invent a machine that surpasses the speed of light in the future, can I go back to being a child?”
Chu Xia said, “Maybe you can go back, or maybe you’ll only see the past as images, with another you there. Superluminal travel is still beyond current human science, so what will really happen is a matter of speculation.”
Cen Huai’an listened intently, trying to remember what Chu Xia said.
He hoped that when human science reached that point, he would have the answers.
Chu Xia added, “Your dad is more knowledgeable about physics. When you meet him in the future, you can ask him about this.”
Cen Huai’an nodded, feeling much better and looking forward to Beijing more.
On Monday, Chu Xia went to Cen Huai’an’s school to handle his withdrawal.
He was only in preschool, so once they got to Beijing, he could continue his studies as long as there was a school to accept him.
It was not like in the future where a Beijing household registration was required to transfer.
Chu Xia planned to leave the matter of Cen Huai’an’s schooling in Beijing entirely to Cen Zhengnian.
At this time, the preschool teacher learned for the first time that Cen Huai’an was moving to Beijing.
He felt regretful because a smart and well-behaved student like Huai’an was liked by every teacher.
The teachers at the affiliated school were with the students from preschool to fifth grade.
If Cen Huai’an had stayed, this teacher would have been with him the whole time, and he was reluctant to let such an excellent student go.
But with the move, he, as a teacher, could do nothing but sigh and say to Huai’an, “Study hard in Beijing too, and aim for a good university in the future!”
Although Huai’an’s homeroom teacher was a stern old man, Chu Xia knew his character was good, as evidenced by his help with Liu Tian’s situation.
Moreover, Huai’an had mentioned enjoying the teacher’s clear and straightforward teaching, even though he could learn from books on his own.
He liked listening to his classes.
“Teacher, thank you for taking care of Huai’an during his time at school,” Chu Xia said to the teacher.
She wondered if Huai’an’s new teacher in Beijing would be as dedicated and upright as this one.
The teacher waved his hand dismissively, “It’s no trouble. Huai’an isn’t an overly naughty child.”
Of course, Huai’an had his mischievous moments, but compared to others, he was indeed less of a concern for the teacher.
As they left the teacher’s office, Chu Xia asked Huai’an, “Do you want to visit the classroom to see Chen Chen and Bangzi before we leave?”
Cen Huai’an shook his head, “They’re in class. Mom, let’s go home.”
He felt that visiting the classroom would disrupt the teacher’s lesson.
Chen Chen would definitely cry, and Bangzi and the others wouldn’t be happy for the rest of the day.
It was better not to go.
He had already said goodbye to them and didn’t want to disturb their class.
Though he said this, Cen Huai’an kept glancing back towards the classroom with a sense of reluctance as they walked out of the school, his eyes lingering on the preschool classroom.
At the school gate, his gaze fell on the place where he and Bangzi used to do business.
He seemed to recall the scenes of them working together to sell things.
He looked for a while, then looked away, uncertain if he would ever sell things with Bangzi again in the future.
Chu Xia knew Cen Huai’an was feeling down and remained silent throughout the journey home.
Once they were home, Chu Xia wanted to prevent him from dwelling on the sadness of parting and directed him to start packing.
Of course, they couldn’t take everything from home to Beijing.
Chu Xia would need to return for exams, so they only packed clothes and essential items.
They also had to deal with the food in the house, or it would spoil by the time they left.
Chu Xia set aside enough vegetables, fruits, and snacks for the next couple of days and for the trip.
The rest was donated to Sister Li and the neighbors who had helped her in the past.
The two little dogs circled around Chu Xia, hoping for some snacks.
“Wow! Chuxia, what are you doing? Why are you sending so many things over?” Sister Li asked in surprise, then immediately refused.
“I don’t need them. You keep them and give them to An’an.”
At this point, there was no need to hide from Li Dajie about moving to Beijing.
After all, once she left, everyone would know.
“Dajie, An’an and I are moving to Beijing to join his father. We can’t take all these things with us, and they’ll spoil if left here, so please keep them.”
Sister Li was even more shocked, almost dropping the things she was holding. “How come you’re leaving all of a sudden? You never mentioned this before!”
Chuxia threw a piece of meat to each of the two dogs and, with a smile, said to Sister Li, “It was a sudden decision; we didn’t plan this before.”
Sister Li was both happy and melancholy, but overall she was glad for Chuxia.
“It’s great! It’s not ideal for you and An’an’s father to be living apart. It’s wonderful that you’re moving to Beijing together. I wondered why you handed over your job. Were you planning this back then?”
Chuxia smiled but did not explain, letting Sister Li think that way.
After all, some of her thoughts might be hard for others to understand.
Sister Li helped Chuxia tidy up, chatting as she organized things. “We’ve been neighbors for so many years. To be honest, I’m quite reluctant to see you go.”
Chuxia also felt reluctant to part with Sister Li. Neighbors like her, who were straightforward, kind-hearted, and not troublesome, were ideal.
It was uncertain whether she’d be lucky enough to find such a neighbor again.
But Chuxia knew this was wishful thinking; she just hoped future neighbors wouldn’t be too troublesome.
If they weren’t easy to get along with, it was okay; as long as they were more manageable than the Luo family, it would be fine.
With a lot of things to pack up, Chuxia and Cen Huai’an minimized their luggage.
The suitcases they brought from the northwest were all packed, and there was an additional bag as well.
“You’re not bringing the bedding? Is there anything to cover with when you get there?” Sister Li pointed to the quilts on the bed.
“These will be prepared by Zhengnian when we get there. Besides, you see how much we can carry; we can’t take everything.”
Sister Li nodded in agreement, “That makes sense. I just feel sorry for your new quilts, leaving them here without anyone to use them.”
Chuxia said, “We’ll be back in the future. We’ll use them again when we return.”
Sister Li realized the reason and agreed.
Chuxia’s family and Cen Zhengnian’s family were both here; they couldn’t abandon this place completely.
The next day, after breakfast, Chuxia covered everything that could be covered with cloth and prepared to leave for the station with Cen Huai’an and their luggage.
She had already called Cen Zhengnian to let him know she and An’an were traveling today.
Cen Zhengnian assured her not to worry; he had used connections to buy the train tickets and arranged for the dogs’ transportation tickets as well.
Currently, there was a special section at the end of the train for transporting animals.
As long as the transportation tickets were bought, they could bring various living things, including cows and sheep!
