Chapter 20: Xu Yueyao Gets Injured Again

Xu Yueyao fell and lost consciousness. Fu Xiaosi held her tightly, patting her face.
“Xu Yueyao, Xu Yueyao!”

“We can’t wait. Let’s take her to the hospital,” Shen Yi said worriedly as he looked at her pale face.

Fu Xiaosi picked her up and rushed to the parking lot. Shen Yi turned to the others and said, “You all go back. I’ll go with Xiaosi.” Then, he ran after Fu Xiaosi.

Wu Haolin and Xiao Beichen exchanged glances. Their families weren’t as powerful as the Fu and Shen families. If something serious happened, they couldn’t afford the consequences.

“Let’s just go back. She’ll be fine,” Wu Haolin said to Xiao Beichen, and the two quickly left.

Gao Yuyan clenched her fists. Thinking of the Zhan family, she felt a bit scared and turned to run away, followed by her three little followers.

In no time, the basketball court was deserted. At that moment, a person crawled out from under a banner on the bleachers. He looked at the camera in his hands and laughed excitedly—he had an exclusive scoop!

Fu Xiaosi drove at lightning speed. Shen Yi thought for a moment and took out his phone to call Chen Shen.

In the Empire Group’s grand conference room, Zhan Rongxuan was signing a contract with the eldest son of the Nangong family, Nangong Yan.

Nangong Yan was the heir to the Nangong family. He was about the same age as Zhan Rongxuan and had officially taken over the family business this year. The Nangong family had never collaborated with other elite families before, making this their first external partnership.

Nangong Yan wore a simple white dress shirt with two buttons undone, revealing his refined collarbones and a hint of his chest muscles. His lazy and casual demeanor was paired with a faint smile on his lips. His neatly styled hair exposed his smooth forehead and sharp brows. With gold-rimmed glasses resting on his nose, he exuded both elegance and nobility.

Across from him, Zhan Rongxuan had a fair complexion and striking, well-defined features. His tailored black suit fit him perfectly, as if every inch of fabric was designed to complement his physique, highlighting an unmatched elegance and aristocratic air. His deep, clear gaze seemed to see through people’s hearts while maintaining a sense of aloofness. The silver cufflinks on his sleeves glimmered subtly in the sunlight, matching his fair fingers. Every movement radiated a refined and imposing presence.

Upon meeting Zhan Rongxuan today, Nangong Yan was pleased. Thinking of his family’s ultimate goal, he felt that only Zhan Rongxuan was worthy of his younger sister.

This collaboration was essentially the Nangong family extending an olive branch to the Zhan family—their ultimate goal was an arranged marriage.

Just as Zhan Rongxuan finished sending Nangong Yan off, Zhan Feng knocked on the door and entered anxiously.

“Young Master Zhan, Miss Xu has had an accident. She’s being taken to the hospital now.”

Zhan Rongxuan’s expression darkened. “What happened?”

“Someone at the school said she fell down the stairs. It doesn’t seem like an accident. We’re investigating the details.” Zhan Feng followed Zhan Rongxuan as they walked out of the office and into the elevator.

On the way to the hospital, Zhan Feng received an update. He turned to Zhan Rongxuan and said, “Young Master Zhan, we found out what happened.” He handed his phone over.

Zhan Rongxuan watched the video on the screen, his face turning cold. His eyes darkened with fury. When he heard Xu Yueyao’s heartfelt confession in the video, his gaze showed disbelief. When he saw her tumbling down the stairs, a dangerous glint flickered across his eyes, filled with murderous intent.

At the school, a man handed a check to another man holding a camera.

“Take this money, and once you step out of this door, keep your mouth shut.”

“Of course, don’t worry. I won’t say a word,” the man replied, grinning as he took the check.

By the time Xu Yueyao was taken to the hospital, she had already regained consciousness. She was disappointed that she hadn’t died or gone home. Seeing how worried Fu Xiaosi and the others were, she decided to scare them a little, so she kept her eyes closed.

However, when Chen Shen arrived to examine her, he lifted her eyelids. Afraid he might misdiagnose her and give her unnecessary injections or medication, she couldn’t help but secretly wink at him.

Noticing her little trick, Chen Shen put away his medical flashlight and told the nurse, “Take her to Operating Room No. 2.”

Fu Xiaosi watched as Xu Yueyao was wheeled away, feeling anxious. He turned to Shen Yi and asked, “Will she be okay?”

Shen Yi reassured him, “With Brother Shen here, she’ll be fine.”

Fu Xiaosi sat down nervously, while Shen Yi stayed beside him.

Inside the operating room, Xu Yueyao lay on the bed, curiously looking around, showing no signs of weakness.

As Chen Shen treated the scrapes on her arms and legs, he glanced at the wound on her head and found it quite unsightly.

“You really don’t feel dizzy or nauseous?” he asked.

“No, I feel great. Wrap my head up to make it look more serious,” Xu Yueyao said as she checked herself in a small mirror. She wasn’t satisfied that he had only applied some medicine without even putting on a bandage.

Chen Shen tossed the tweezers onto a tray and leaned down. “What really happened? Why do you look like this?”

“Isn’t it obvious? They bullied me,” Xu Yueyao replied, wiping the dust off her face with her sleeve.

Chen Shen eyed her doubtfully. She didn’t look like someone who had been bullied, though the injuries were real.

“So, wrap my head dramatically to scare them,” Xu Yueyao pleaded, looking into his eyes.

“I’m a doctor—I don’t deceive people,” he replied, but still went to get some gauze from the sterilization cabinet. As he wrapped her head, he added, “It’s unnecessary. Once Rongxuan arrives, they won’t dare bully you again.”

“This is my business. I don’t want Zhan Rongxuan to interfere. I can handle it myself.”

Hearing this, Chen Shen paused in surprise. He had expected her to cry and complain to Rongxuan.

But Xu Yueyao knew Zhan Rongxuan wouldn’t solve this problem for her. Even if he did, direct attacks were easy to avoid, but hidden threats weren’t. When he lost interest in her, he wouldn’t care about her at all. She also knew she couldn’t make Fu Xiaosi her friend, but she could use this incident to make him feel guilty toward her.

When Xu Yueyao was finally wheeled out, her head was wrapped like a dumpling, making her face look even smaller. Her weak appearance surprised even Chen Shen—she was quite the actress.

Just then, Zhan Rongxuan and Zhan Feng arrived at the hospital. Seeing Xu Yueyao’s pitiful state, Zhan Rongxuan frowned and turned to Fu Xiaosi and Shen Yi, his gaze filled with cold fury.

Noticing his dark expression, Chen Shen stepped in to block him. “Let’s talk first.” Then he turned to the nurse and the others. “Take the patient to her room.”

“How is she?” Zhan Rongxuan asked.

“Don’t worry, she’s fine.”

“She looks like that, and you call it ‘fine’?”

Chen Shen chuckled. “Xu Yueyao asked for it. She wanted to scare them.”

Zhan Rongxuan understood, but he was still uneasy. “She really didn’t get hurt badly from falling down all those stairs?”

Chen Shen nodded. “She’s fine. But… you seem really worried about her.”

For the first time, Chen Shen saw Zhan Rongxuan losing his usual composure. Normally, he was always calm and indifferent.

Zhan Rongxuan froze for a moment before replying, “She… she’s still my woman in name.”

Zhan Feng smirked slightly—he had a feeling their young master was finally waking up.
