Zhan Rongxuan arrived at the hospital room and saw Fu Xiaosi and Shen Yi standing at the door, looking toward the hospital bed. Still feeling uneasy, he walked to Xu Yueyao’s bedside, staring at her big mushroom-shaped hair.
Suddenly, he felt someone touching his hand. Looking down, he saw Xu Yueyao’s small hand sneak out from under the blanket, rubbing his hand back and forth. Zhan Rongxuan raised his head and saw her secretly open one eye, playfully winking at him.
At that moment, Zhan Feng entered and said to Zhan Rongxuan, “Young Master Zhan, President Fu and Young Master Yan are here.”
Zhan Rongxuan glanced at Fu Xiaosi and Shen Yi and said, “Let them in.”
Hearing this, Xu Yueyao slowly woke up, touched her head, and weakly asked, “Where am I?”
Zhan Rongxuan calmly watched her act. “In the hospital.”
Seeing her awake, Fu Xiaosi quickly stepped forward and asked, “Xu Yueyao, how are you?”
Zhan Rongxuan frowned sharply at him. This kid really didn’t take him seriously, did he?
Just then, the hospital room door opened, and Fu Zheng and Shen Yan walked in, followed by An Zhiyi. Xu Yueyao looked at An Zhiyi in surprise, wondering why she was here too.
It turned out that after Fu Xiaosi and Shen Yi brought Xu Yueyao to the hospital, Wu Haolin and Xiao Beichen had been very worried. They called them, but neither answered. Rumors said that Young Master Zhan was ruthless, and they feared he might kill them in a fit of anger. The more they thought about it, the more scared they became. So, after school, they called Fu Zheng and Shen Yan to explain the situation.
Fu Zheng had originally planned to pick up An Zhiyi for a date, but just as he met her, he received Wu Haolin’s call and ended up coming to the hospital together.
Xu Yueyao glanced at Zhan Rongxuan and, seeing that he had no reaction, felt relieved. But then she noticed An Zhiyi staring at him, making her heart tighten. Unconsciously, she reached out and grabbed Zhan Rongxuan’s hand, successfully drawing his attention. She then deliberately acted cute and dependent, making the usually unshakable Zhan Rongxuan so flustered that he didn’t dare move. He wondered, Did she hit her head too hard?
“Young Master Zhan, my apologies. This is Xiaosi’s fault. Whatever compensation Miss Xu wants, the Fu family will provide it,” Fu Zheng said.
Seeing Xu Yueyao’s head wrapped like a giant dumpling, he shot a glance at Fu Xiaosi, his face darkening with disbelief.
Feeling his brother’s disappointment, Fu Xiaosi lowered his head.
Shen Yan also saw Xu Yueyao’s injuries and grabbed Shen Yi’s arm, pushing him toward Zhan Rongxuan. “Rongxuan, Miss Xu, I’m serious. Do whatever you want—our Shen family won’t object.”
Fu Xiaosi knew Shen Yan wasn’t joking and anxiously said, “This has nothing to do with Shen Yi! It’s all my fault. Young Master Zhan, Xu Yueyao, if you want revenge, take it out on me.”
Shen Yi had been silent, but when he heard Fu Xiaosi’s words, his heart skipped a beat. He quickly averted his gaze, hiding the emotions in his eyes.
Zhan Rongxuan had no fondness for this kid at all. Just as he was about to lose his temper, Xu Yueyao lightly scratched his palm and said, “Young Master Zhan, you all misunderstood. They didn’t bully me. I accidentally fell myself. In fact, I should thank Fu and Shen for bringing me to the hospital.”
Fu Xiaosi looked at her in disbelief, and even Shen Yi was surprised. Though they hadn’t pushed her, she had still suffered because of them. Fu Xiaosi’s heart stirred. Does Xu Yueyao like me?
Luckily, Xu Yueyao couldn’t read minds. If she knew how Fu Xiaosi was misinterpreting her, she would’ve let Zhan Rongxuan kill him on the spot. She just wanted to make peace with Fu Xiaosi and stop him from targeting her.
Despite Xu Yueyao’s explanation, Fu Zheng and Shen Yan didn’t believe her and insisted on compensating her.
“Shen Yi owns a hotel near your school. As compensation, I’ll have it transferred to your name immediately,” Shen Yan said. A hotel meant nothing to him, but since Xu Yueyao was Zhan Rongxuan’s woman, he had to give Zhan a proper explanation.
Xu Yueyao swallowed hard. Is this how aristocratic families operate? Just giving away hotels? She was thrilled inside—she liked this kind of generosity. However, she still said, “No, I can’t accept such an expensive gift from Shen Yi. My injury wasn’t his fault.”
A mere hotel was nothing to Shen Yi. He understood his brother’s relationship with Zhan Rongxuan, so whatever his brother said, he followed. “Miss Xu, this is my token of goodwill. Please accept it.”
His voice was cool and gentle, like a clear stream—soft yet warm.
Xu Yueyao suddenly realized he was quite handsome, fair-skinned like a cute little puppy. But she still hesitated. “This doesn’t seem right…”
The men in the room didn’t notice, but An Zhiyi, as a woman, couldn’t ignore the joy in Xu Yueyao’s eyes and the excitement in her voice. A mocking smile appeared on An Zhiyi’s lips, her gaze filled with contempt.
Unfortunately, when Xu Yueyao looked up, they locked eyes. Both pairs of bright, sharp eyes met. An Zhiyi awkwardly touched her hair and looked away. Xu Yueyao clenched her teeth, cursing inwardly. It seems we’re destined to clash. I really, really don’t like her.
Fu Zheng knew the whole situation was Fu Xiaosi’s fault, and he didn’t want to make an enemy of the Zhan family. He had to give them an explanation.
“I will transfer 10% of Fu Corporation’s shares to Miss Xu’s name. I hope she won’t refuse and can forgive Xiaosi.” Fu Zheng spoke while looking at Zhan Rongxuan—the words were for Xu Yueyao, but the message was for Zhan.
This time, not only was Xu Yueyao shocked, but even Fu Xiaosi was stunned. An Zhiyi covered her mouth in disbelief.
Xu Yueyao loved money, but she wasn’t stupid. She glanced at Zhan Rongxuan, knowing that Fu Zheng’s real target was him. Right now, Fu Corporation wasn’t the future financial giant of the capital and was even inferior to the Shen family. Perhaps Fu Zheng thought she was Zhan’s beloved woman and wanted to use her to form a connection with the Zhan family.
She felt uneasy about being used by the male lead but was also extremely tempted by the 10% shares. Seeing An Zhiyi’s shocked expression only made her want it more.
Tilting her head, she gazed at Zhan Rongxuan, her eyes filled with subtle emotions—half-joy, half-anger, deep and affectionate, as if silently saying, It’s up to you. I’ll listen to you.
Zhan Rongxuan flicked her mushroom-like head. “Why are you looking at me? Whether to forgive them is up to you.”
“I don’t blame them,” Xu Yueyao said to Fu Xiaosi and Shen Yi. She truly didn’t.
“Alright then. Since Miss Xu has forgiven Xiaosi, I will transfer the shares to her tomorrow. We won’t disturb her rest any longer,” Fu Zheng said, nodding to Zhan Rongxuan before leaving with Fu Xiaosi.
An Zhiyi hesitated to say something to Zhan Rongxuan but stopped. She wasn’t sure if this was the person she had been searching for. Watching him focus on Xu Yueyao’s injured arm, she touched the jade pendant hidden beneath her clothes and silently turned away.
Lost in thought, An Zhiyi walked down the hospital corridor, passing by Chen Shen. He seemed to recognize something and turned around, staring at her back in a daze. Could she be… an old acquaintance?
